Leaping like a sixteen stone salmon, Robert Huth is the scourge of 18-yard boxes the length and breadth of the land. Equally terrifying at both ends of the pitch, Huth’s aerial despotism has long ensured that he is as much “on” Stoke’s set-pieces as whoever happens to have the honour of hoofing the ball in his general direction.

The top scoring defender in the Premier League last term, Huth’s six goals were augmented by three assists, eight clean sheets and fourteen bonus points. Amassing 138 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points from a starting price of 5.0,  it was no surprise when he was unhesitatingly elected to our team-of-the-season. With the Potters’ defensive parsimony a proverbial constant, and their attacking prosperity ever predicated on set-plays, a price hike to 6.0 this time round seemed unlikely to present a significant impediment to would-be investors.

Three clean sheets in the first four games seemed to forecast a business-as-usual campaign for Tony Pulis’ men, but with new arrivals Matthew Upson and Jonathan Woodgate now competing for centre-back spots a formerly settled defensive line began to betray an uncharacteristic uncertainty. A long clean sheet drought saw Pulis’ protracted search for a solution assuming the character of a rotational merry-go-round, and Huth often found himself out on a limb at full-back or even, at times, on the bench.

The restoration of last season’s centre-back pairing of Ryan Shawcross and Huth has applied a much needed prophylactic to Stoke’s unusually profligate campaign. The re-galvanised Potters have secured two clean sheets in their last six, and a goal and an assist last weekend in the FA cup saw man-of-the-match Huth back to his imperious best in the opposing penalty area.

Three home games in the next four make Stoke’s upcoming run an inviting proposition (SUN ful SWA NOR), and a January sale price of 5.6 seems eminently reasonable for a player boasting a strong record in both attack and defence. With the threat of rotation hanging ominously over Stoke’s budget defensive options, Shawcross represents the only other safe choice in the Potters’ back line, but priced at 5.1 and offering little competition to Huth in terms of attacking threat, a saving of 0.5 may well be a false economy.

With more attempts on goal in the last six games than the rest of the Potters’ defence combined, and the prospects for clean sheets never remote at the Brittania, Huth may offer the strongest value in the Stoke side over the coming weeks.

    Morning chaps (chapesses?)

Can I get some feed back on my lineup for this weekend. WC played last week, bitterly dissappointed with last GW score yet I feel I should save my FT as there was a reason I picked this team.

    Vorm
    Caulker, Kompany, Taiwo, Clichy
    Dempsey, Walters, Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain
    Van Persie, Aguero

    Schwarzer, Keane, McClean, Riise

My concern is Demps, should I be playing Demps knowing that if he scores it automatically cancells out two players CS points? Possibly play Kean or Mclean in place of a ManCity defender? or instead of Demps himself? Comments much appreciated.

I had retained on the basis that I was waiting for the 0.1 increase and then would transfer for Huth.

RVP is showing as 13.2 value on mine.
        BAE 5.8
Dempsey 8.8 which he was yesterday.

I dont think FPL have updated properly. When you look in the price rise (round) stats they are not showing as risen, but if you look at RVP's value it's listed as 13.3, but if you click in the i button it's given as 13.2

I don't care much for GK's, Krul's fixtures are decent, De Gea will screw up in this month with the tough fixtures, and United routinely lie about how long players are out for.

Nobody in my mini league has QPR coverage accept for a couple holding barton.I have a final slot open in midfield and Im seriously conidering Taraabt, even though the obvious reasons not to bring him in. I have all of my transfers with back up options done and I will be keeping this player through GW 29. Game time also important, so if you think Taraabt wont be brought back in as soon as this Gameweek or max next gameweek please inform why.

Also, what is pushing me into taking the Taraabt risk is the introduction of Hughes.
We have seen what new direction has done in terms of production for the likes of Sessegnon and Nzogbia of late. Taraabt is quality, he seems happy that Hughes is directing the team(albeit arrogantly), and this new stance could serve as a launching pad for his form.

if thats the case, graham->gerbil for no hit.

I cant afford to do just Graham to Ba. I would be 0.2 short. I just cant decide if its worth a hit. Ruddy never keeps clean sheets but neither does Kenny really.

I'm playing J.En and benching Evans. yes, Chelsea are terrible but they still have a good record of scoring at the Bridge. Utd's defence isn't great - I can't see Chelsea not scoring.

Good afternoon lads, just log on and some questions to go:

    1) any news about the Dembas? will they start?
    2) What the hell happening to FPL site? In my team, i see Simpson still at 4.4M (but actually he's up to 4.5M now?). and more weird, his sold value in my team now is 4.3M ? how can it happen?

A to Q2) when you sell a player you only get there original alue plus half the rise

for example if i bought simpson for 4mil and sold him at 4.4 i would only get 4.2 mil

It in rules if you want it explained more clearly

A to Q1) both dembas expected to start - the new demba might not be started as he is not very experienced in PL though

update: we are now formally calling Djibril Cisse "Gerbil" and Papiss Demba Cisse "Papa Cmurf"

      Now to your questions,
      1) ba will- not sure about papa cmurf
      2) you only get half of his rise in value

fact: nobody can sell him at 4.3M atm!
his original price is 4M, now he's 4.5, so selling price must be 4.2M
how the hell is 4.3M in my team? should i sell him now to earn 0.1M 😆

    1. Is it ok to have Vorm ( who i play nearly every week anyway) and a super cheap gk like Bogdan. in other words can you go with 1 gk if your really stpapped for cash to get the outfield team you want.

    2. get Ba in this week ( slight doubt) or have Cisse and leave enough cash to do cisse > ba next week.

Thanks for opinions, im on w/c by the way

If you play Vorm every game, then pit in swanseas number 2, tremmel, as sub. Frees up cash, and if he unexpectedly doesn't start, least you have a gk to step in. That's what I've done

But isn't the minimum allocation at a FA Cup game so much more (% wise) than a league game? Plus, "In October United's allocation for the reverse fixture was reduced from 3,015 to 1,965."

If Liverpool did that to United, you can't moan when it comes back around.

I am one my WC now, and am thinking about a few changes.

    1. As a fifth midfielder I will probably go for aplayer in the ~£5.0 range. I have Moses at the moment, but considering both Gylfi and Buzsaky.
    2. I don't have the courage to go for Ba just yet, since I would want to see how his shape is post-ACON. I am therefore thinking about a two-week punt for a QPR forward, either Cisse or Zamora.
I would think Cisse is bound to start considering he scored last match, but Zamora has experience with Hughes and might go straight into the starting line-up. Any thoughts on the matter? Any other player suggestions?
