The paint may still be drying on the Gameweek 23 bonus points, yet, with another set of fixtures looming, we’re already looking ahead. As always, we have altered and amended our Watchlist with a mini-update – the results follow and can be found in your sidebar to the right…

Defenders

Firstly, some notable players have finally fallen off the radar. The likes of Leighton Baines, Jose Enrique and Benoit Assou-Ekotto have enjoyed decent returns in recnet Gameweeks but their respective schedules dent the potential from this point on.

The switchover in terms of fixtures also sees some of the less fashionable options make gains on our charts. Taye Taiwo made an impression on Fantasy managers with an assist in his first QPR appearance last night. Wigan’s Maynor Figueroa also enjoys a climb as the struggling Latics look to make the most of their forthcoming run of opponents – a spell that will surely decide their Premier League fate. Angel Rangel and Robert Huth gain places – the Stoke centre-back is now established in our top five.

Midfielders

In midfield, things stay fairly static as the leading candidates continue to monopolise their positions at the top of the charts. If it was purely a fixture-based game, then Gareth Bale would no doubt be toppled but the Welshman remains untouchable. Is “must have” perhaps a step too far?

Scout favourite Victor Moses has made a leap, due to Wigan’s favourable turn on the fixture front. Swansea’s new boy Gylfi Sigurdsson continues a slow climb up the charts behind team-mate Scott Sinclair, and Joey Barton profits from strong fixtures, with QPR’s new strikers offering him a sharper cutting edge up front to convert the supply from midfield.

Slipping down to make room for the aforementioned midfielders are Steven Gerrard, Juan Mata and Rafael Van Der Vaart. A trio of costly Fantasy options with fixtures and form that provide little incentive for Fantasy investment.

Forwards

The attack is even more settled, with strikers picking themselves in recent weeks. Bobby Zamora has moved across London but remains highly placed, with QPR’s upcoming fixtures looking even more appealing than those of his former club Fulham. Sergio Aguero may have struggled of late but he holds firm in second, with team-mate Edin Dzeko enjoying a climb on the back of City’s three attractive home games in the next four.

Demba Ba’s return from the African Cup of Nations pushes him back up the rankings. The arrival of countryman Papiss Demba Cisse may well inspire the Magpies hit man to carry on where he left off at the end of 2011. Similar to City, Newcastle have a strong run of home fixtures, with Villa, Wolves and Sunderland all rolling up to the Sports Direct Arena in the next four Gameweeks. If Ba looks sharp against Villa, he could even threaten the top two in our rankings.

United pairing Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck suffer declines as fixtures toughen up and rotation beckons for the latter. Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge continues to slowly slide as his form wavers, while Steven Fletcher and Danny Graham also tumble in the cheap seats.

Emmanuel Adebayor has also finally fallen from grace with his dry spell now compounded by stiff fixtures. Meanwhile, our main new entries this week come in the form of Sunderland’s Frazier Campbell and West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie who both feature at the lower end of our charts to challenge Wigan’s Hugo Rodallega as long-shot differentials.

Can someone explain to me why Murphy isn't suspended after picking up his 5th yellow in the PL? Am I missing something, or perhaps he picked up a booking in one of the cup games and served suspension already?

ok folks have 7 million for a striker. Currently it's Djibril Cisse, but are there better options? Papiss Cisse? Zamora, Jelavic, Keane, Welbeck, Campbell??

On wc so points hit not an issue.

Sooo... BBC weather people getting excited about the "Battle of the Fronts". There's been nothing like it since the last series of Hollyoaks Later came to an end. Looks like there's a genuine chance of some proper snow on Saturday night, currently this is predicted for central and eastern regions.

Not sure we can trust our meteorologists to the extent that we'll hold off using our Demba transfers, but it's worth bearing in mind.

    @JK

    You said:

    “Mignolet

    Taiwo, Richards, Santon

    Dempsey, Silva, Bale, Valencia

RvP (c) Aguero (vc) Cisse (QPR)

    Schwarzer, Mclean, Evans, Caulker

Should I play McLean and if so for who?

Have 0.5 in bank and am on wc, so best striker to join RvP and Aguero for 7 million or less? Other Cisse, Zamora, Jelavic, Keane???”

Anything I say is really nitpicking as it’s very good.

Under “normal” situations I would have said bench Valencia over Mclean but Chels are so woeful I reckon an injured Man U will do them. Keep Mc as super sub imho.

Striker: For me, Piss(New) for 7.0 and under. I am 99% doing Ba this week but have an unnerving feeling that Piss may take his thunder. Bobby Z is less of a gamble(?). Despite Eve’s win over Citeh I still see them as totally useless, maybe illogically, and I know know nothing about Jellyfish. Keane… I see him as an S. Ireland sort of player… spent but with moments of glory.

One last comment… Evans. Man U have tough fixtures and a weakened def. I don’t see value in him. I’d go Senderos.

if Senderos was 4.2 he'd be in as that would allow me to get Ba in. Always a possibility that Papiss won't start. I actually think QPR striker is a better option than any Newcastle striker.

      QPR's next 2 (WOL, bla)

      Newc (AST, tot)

Think Djibril or Bobby would be better for next 2 weeks, but that's just me

means doubling up on Fulham defence. Could do Evans - Williamson, Kelly, Turner and Cisse - Ba

So it's a case of Evans (or any defender for 4.5 or less) and one of Papiiss, Bobby Z or Gerbil

          or

defender for 4.2 or less and Ba.

As you know, I have Schwarzer & Senderos at the mo and am uncomfortable about it. I wouldn't double up on Ful's def inless you can make a nailed on reason for doing so. I can't!

Here is something for you intelligent football people.

Up to 12th overall in the Sky FF with only 1 transfer left of my 30 for the season. Squad is as follows.

    Friedel

    Vermaelen Naylor Riise

    Bale Silva Dempsey Sess Mata

    RVP Aguero

I was thinking of keeping Aguero for the next run of games then figured Rooney/United have a good run in from GW28 until the end of the season.

Does that make sense. I know I could keep the last transfer in case of injury but I thought it might be worth a shot.

    Vorm
    Simpson, Bardsley, Kompany
    Silva, Dempsey, Bale, Sigurdsson

Tough one, because of his price I see McClean as someone to keep for the season since he'll be on my bench a lot of the time (though the 2 games I've played him have brought 15 points). Sess, who I don't have, is someone you'll want to sell for bad fixtures or poor form as he's too expensive to bench frequently.

So, I think doubling up for now is fine as there will probably come a time when you want to sell Sess. This time might be quite soon with Sunderland's fixtures not being the best.

Don't see many alternatives to McClean for the price, maybe a Swansea mid (not sure who's nailed on though) but the home fixtures are poor.

Is Ba expected to regain the form he had before he left or do ye think it will take a few weeks to hit that form again?

Well I currently have Fletcher who wouldnt be a bad option. Im thinking of taking a 4 point hit to get Ba and Taiwo for Fletcher and Shawcross. Already have Sorensen.

save the transfer this week, fletcher vs qpr looks ok. you'd kick yourself if brought in taiwo & got rid of fletch & he scored (these things always seem to happen) in saying that im playing taiwo this week 🙂

    Hi,
What do you think to this lot- not sure who to bench...

    Vorm (Al Habsi)
    Clichy Skrtel Raylor (Walker Woodgate)
Sess Valencia Bale (v) Walters (Dempsey)
    Ba Fletcher RVP (c)

Is benching an in-form Dempsey against citeh who are looking a bit lacklustre a good shout? Part of me thinks its worth a punt (the part that is usually wrong). And is fielding Ba a waste if all he's going to do is come on for a quick run out as he's knackered?

    All opinions appreciated!

    Cheers

Guys, just read on fiso the concept of "shadowing" an opponents defence in order to chase down a points deficit.

Basically, copy your opponents defence to take out the uncertainty of clean sheets and make up ground by making better/informed decisions with your midifelders & forwards

Anyone used the tactic before with any sort of success?

Nope, always played the game on what I believe is my best available team with generally a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 with 2/3 good defenders and 2 cheapies and cheap keepers with 6 of the front 8 being generaly top players. I've won my mini league 3 years running and despite being 120 points behind at one stage am now clawing back and this pattern is similar to previous years.

I tend to agree, as a debutant this season just wondered if i was missing something.

Clawed a 130pt lead down to 39 since november but feeling a little agrieved he outscored me this week with 30pts from his back 4!

He currently has Enrique, BAE, Jevans, Simpson, Williams - Friedel & Vorm - So hoping they wont score to well over the next few gameweeks!

Hmmm, my main opponent picked up Vorm when he was ~4.6, I combated this with 3.9 Caulker. In this case it made good sense as they were getting clean sheets routinely.

He is also currnelty running Hangland as he feels the golas may retun for him and I'm running Sendreros thinking they won't.

However, I wouldn't go and just grab up all his defenders to "keep pace," but I will match a good defense with solid fixtures by nabbing the cheaper guy.

McClean, N Dyer, Van der Vaart, Bale, Silva
