“He is an exceptional player and when you feed him in the box, he’s deadly.”

You see, we kind of knew all that. We realised that, against Blackburn, particularly a Blackburn reduced to ten men after half an hour, Van Persie had the tools to destroy them and deliver massive returns. The problem Mr Wenger, is that on Friday afternoon you uttered this…

“I will rotate a little bit because many players have given a lot…[With Van Persie] the temptation is there.”

That was news to us Fantasy managers. That put the frighteners on and, despite our attempt this morning to deconstruct that statement and put up arguments against the idea of resting Van Persie, some took action. Indeed, two of the top four ranked Fantasy Premier League managers opted to give the armband to Sergio Aguero – perhaps oblivious to Wenger’s threats, but more likely as a result of them.

The very idea of us, a site dedicated to passing information to Fantasy Football managers, ignoring the quotes from Wenger was never a viable option. We turned a blind eye to Friday’s Sun report, but when Wenger speaks, we had to report it. So, to counter that, in this morning’s Preamble, we stressed the need to keep faith with Van Persie and hope that Wenger resisted the gamble. Hopefully, that helped some in their decision to sit tight.

Is there a lesson to be learned? Certainly the fact that Van Persie remained on the pitch to provide an assist to Thierry Henry with the score at 6-1, indicates that the idea of resting Van Persie didn’t cross Wenger’s mind once the goals started flowing. Had Van Persie been tiring, had he been desperate for a break – why was he left on the pitch when the match was dead and buried?

Only Wenger has the answers, and it seems we’ll never quite work out his thinking when it comes to Van Persie. With the Champions League programme looming, we can surely expect more uncertainly, perhaps some smokescreens.

However, today surely confirmed that we can ill afford to take risks with Van Persie and the armband. There is no better Fantasy damage dealer and if there’s a chance that he will be on the pitch, particularly against abject opposition, we have to back him. That policy may cost us – there may well be occasions when Van Persie will be left fidgeting on the bench whilst sporting our armbands. The question is, will those who suffer that fate feel any worse that those who missed out on today’s incredible haul? Right now, in this Knee Jerk, it seems unlikely.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I wanted to see Walters and McClean go MANO AL MANO at Twickenham before I handed the young man a coveted jersey. Never thought he would end up scoring the only goal. Anyway Walters out.

Well I am gonna tell the truth and I know it is gonna hurt for a lot, but look it this way.

IT is TIME to SELL Silva!

    Reasons:
    - So many options in midfield and he isn't captain consideration week in week out. He is 10m midfielder after all. Only 4 double figures (10, 10, 11, 12) for him whole season (once he was my captain thanks David) and only once goal and assist combo. 3 of them were in the first 10 GW's. Only one double digit score in last 14 GW's.
    - There are tones of midfielders performing atm so his points could be covered or even out scored for less money.
    - His 45 % ownership is a blessing in discuses. Chance to close the gap.
    - I believe that Hart will be my City cover instead of Silva. He will be very close to his score till the end of the season or at least within this good run.
    - I will have Kun upfront cause he is captain consideration and guess what I will have the cash to include Ba and Roonster after for there good run.
    - More flexibility of the team and all the lads stuck with the "season keeper" Silva 🙂

Empire strikes back as I see it. This kind of decisions helped me in the past. Thanks for reading.
P.S. Losing value bla bla bal I have team value 109.7m. Where I will take ti? Home? hahaha 😆

Daniel-- I agree with one point-- he's not automatic Captain material like he was for ten weeks, but that's because RVP has sucked 180 points out of the air.

To me Silva is a blue chipper and the other bluechippers include Nani, VDV, Lamps, and Gerrard (and theoretically Mata) who are not better ATM.

I like your point about Hart in for Silva and then depend on another strong Mid.

I'll likely stick with Silva barring injury.

I agree that team value isn't so much of an issue at this point in the season. But that's why I'll be holding on to Silva; there may be five better value midfield options, but I'm not convinced there are five better options full stop. I think he's worth his place

      kind of agree with u.
he had lost his double digit haul form for quite a while, and have been less consistent lately.

and also those tempting miidfield to choose from, it might give u some freedom if u get rid of him.

but silva is a major differential in my ML though. just have to wait and see. if no performance after AVI match, then i would sell him

Daniel I got rid of Silva a 5 weeks ago for 3 weeks and it is not worth the trouble. In the time I didn't have him he scored 8,7 and 6. He doesn't need to be a captain choice to be worth having because he so consistent.

Ok Mull and how many points did MClean (8, 7, 8) and Siggy (2, 6, 10)brought in the same period? THe points are points it doesn't matter who will score them for your team. If he is captaincy consideration like RVP this week or Kun GW 26-7 then it is another matter. Captaincy material players can do some serious damage.

See where you're coming from and considered it myself but :

      1. When you say it's a chance to close the gap it's also a way to widen the gap and drop you further behind rivals and down in overall ranks. If he scores a couple of 12+ scores (very possible in next few City fixtures) then you'll lose ground on everyone. It's a bit like not having RVP today.

      2. Why sell just before arguably their best fixture run of the season? It's not like there are loads of options as you suggest (maybe better value but not better points scorers). Over next few weeks, United (Valencia,Nani), Spurs (Bale, VdV) and others have much worse fixtures.

      3. You've got a budget, you may as well spend it. You've got 110m (a lot more than me!), don't think value for money is that important to you, more just who will score most and Silva will defs score more than almost all mid price options over the next 4-5 GW's

Maybe about GW28-29 when Nani etc become better options but now not for me.

        Well in that good run as you are mentioning;

        Hart + Komp + Kun = 6.8 + 6.5 + 11.2 = 24.3m
        Komp + Silva + Kun = 6.5 + 10.5 + 11.2 = 28.1m

That is 4m difference. Ferguson and Valencia. You do the math. Also Kun is captaincy option, Silva isn't.

We'll see - I've gone for Komp/Silva/Kun and am confident it'll score higher than the Hart option. Maybe not but that's the game, sometimes what you think doesn't work out.

And while it is 4m difference, with 110m like you pretty much have to spend, as long as you have a few cheap rotating defenders, there's going to be no need to have the likes of Ferguson and you'll be able to afford the likes of Valencia anyway.

Also your point about midfield options may be true, but you also have to consider CS options. Can't see my Krul/Hennessey rotation scoring that much lower than your Hart option if not as much or more over the next 4 weeks and that saves about 1.5m to add to budget.

You may be right but Silva could easy score 30-40 points in next 4 and Hart 15 or so. We'll have to wait and see

i shouldn't have gone BAE to Huth....huge mistake

now I have 5.6 worth of a red flag on my team and with no money left I'm still unsure of who to change him for. My team currently looks like:

    Vorm, Lindegaard

    Huth, JEvans, Kompany, Simpson, Taiwo

    Bale, Silva, McClean, Dempsey, Valencia

    RVP, Aguero, Ba

Options I was thinking of were: Bosingwa/ShawX/Gahill/Rotaylor and none of these look very attractive IMO.

    PLEASE HELP

    A) Dump Shotton now, yay or nay?

Stoke have nice fixtures and he's dirt cheap. But if Pulis plans to use him as a late sub (came ON in the 85th minute today) he's useless.

    B) Who to replace him with?
Thinking either Caulker or Taiwo ATM. Other suggestions?

    My team ATM:
    Vorm/Krul
    Kompany/Simpson/Ekotto/Evans/Shotton
    Silva/Bale/Dempsey/Sessegnon/McClean
    Aguero/RVP/Ba

    0.6 in the bank

I'm not sure why so many panicked about RVP this week. Translating Wenger's comment...

“I will rotate a little bit because many players have given a lot…[With Van Persie] the temptation is there…We are in a situation at the moment where he is the main goalscorer, so I will maybe have to build a team that works around him.”

... from French, into English I got. "The guy needs a rest but he scores all the goals so what choice do I have but to build the team around him?"

    Hence I captained him 🙂

After owning Seamus Coleman (and Baines ironically). Only buy a defender if he has CS potential. Attacking potential is a bonus.

As good as Richards is going forward, the reason I bought him was he is locked into a side that keeps regular cleanies. The romance of a big score from Huth, Verm ans Taiwo can detract from the fact a worthwhile defender has to keep churning out those regular, predictable 6s.

Just looked at Huths sending off six times at various speeds

    1) Conditions were 40% to blame
    2) Sunderland player was 40% to blame for play acting

Huth tucked his feet up to try and avoid contact , 100% non intentional , snow made him slide much further than he normally would

Was going to knee jerk Huth out , but think i will wait , that red card cannot stand, they will use the conditions as an excuse to change it

Boss Tony Pulis has indicated Stoke will appeal against Robert Huth's sending off in the 1-0 defeat to Sunderland - and suggested that play-acting by Black Cats midfielder David Meyler contributed to the German's dismissal.

Huth was shown a straight red card in the 45th minute at a wintry Britannia Stadium following his sliding challenge on Meyler.

Referee Martin Atkinson's decision to dismiss the defender left Pulis enraged and asked after the game if he planned to appeal, the Potters boss said: "We will see. I think we definitely will."

So is RvP going to be rested some time soon or was Wenger just making it up because he got bored in a press conference?

Looking at Arsenal's forthcoming fixtures (sun TOT liv NEW eve AVL) surely you would have rested him for Blackburn at home rather than any of these?

Well there's one week till the next game now, so i guess you could say that's his rest. But when Europe kicks off again, he may get a rest but i wouldn't bank on it. Wenger seems happy to run him to the ground and so far it's paid off.

SD summed it up a while back (to paraphrase):

On the one hand, Silva isn't Captain Explosive to the extent you feel like you're missing out, particularly with his high price tag. His unselfishness and cute passing has always had a Modric-like feel.

However, he's so consistent that he accumulates points without you even realising it. Personally, as someone who's frustatingly often missed many of his points after writing him off, I have learnt my lesson and he remains in my team for the long term.

I would find a way to get them both in (in other words do Valencia to Siggy). You've only had Valencia since GW 21, and you team value is sh*t anyway.

Your ranking is to die for...after the United match (if they play) you'll see this move more clearly.
