In patriotic fashion, the Saturday palette of games duly started with a red, passed through a flurry of white, and ended with the blue side of Manchester celebrating a 17th successive home league win – but this being a disciplinary round-up, we’re only interested in the first bit of that mélange.

The first red in question, in the lunchtime Emirates massacre, was shown to Blackburn defender Gaël Givet, with the former French international given his marching orders for a two-footed lunge on Robin van Persie when the score was already 3-1 to the home side. Steve Kean will now have to do without his services for the next 3 games (QPR, mci, AVL) and will hope to convince want-away club captain Chris Samba to don his boots again for the club.

In a week where the tackling laws were clarified by referees chief Mike Riley, going in with two feet was always going to be a risky strategy for Givet, but fronting up to your opponent and grabbing him around the neck as our next perpetrator managed, is on another level. The Lord of the Manor of Frodsham (or Djibril Cissé as he is more commonly known), took objection to a challenge by Wolves defender Roger Johnson and his subsequent retaliation after 34 minutes left his QPR teammates exposed. Since then, he has used his Twitter feed to apologise to the club’s fans, but will now find himself amongst them in the stands for the next three (bla, FUL, EVE).

A hat-trick of straight reds for eventual losing sides was completed in the 45th minute of Sunderland’s 1-0 win at the Britannia, as Stoke defender (and scout pick) Robert Huth was also adjudged by referee Martin Atkinson to have fallen foul of those clarified rules with a slide tackle on David Meyler that failed to collect the ball. The strong post match comments from Stoke manager Tony Pulis, suggest that an appeal may be on the cards for this one, but for the meantime, the three matches missed by Huth include the FA cup tie at Crawley Town, and Premier League matches against Fulham (a) and Swansea (H) in Gameweeks 25 and 26.

GAMEWEEK 25 BANS

  • Gaël Givet (BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Mario Balotelli (MCI) – FA Charge (last of 4 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (NEW) – FA Charge (last of 3 matches)
  • Djibril Cissé (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Robert Huth (STO) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Karl Henry (WOL) – 1 Red for serious foul play (last of 3 matches)

better than Zamora anyway (except on red cards and goals scored) 😀

He was a good option until his moment of rage and probably would have scored well yesterday. He will link up well with SWP and Zamora when he plays.

1 goal (which was also on his debut) in half a season at Lazio is not very appealing. His goal record in the premier league has never been up to much.

Some players are just not suited to a certain league or style of football so Serie A obviously wasn't for Djibril. Look at Diego Forlan at Man United. I agree he is not the most prolific striker but he still has goals in him and the experience to contribute to QPR staying up. He is a good finisher and if he gets chances he will score goals.

Zamora was always the better option as he's proven and has created lots of goals this season. I thought it was so funny to see someone had Cisse as captain and so got double -2 points to make it -4! What cruel fate

True-ish, but at Panathanaikos (before Lazio) didn't he score 41 goals in 60-odd games? He's generally had a good record - about 1 in 2, which is nearly 20 goals a season.

The FPL gods have clearly got it in for me since GW18.

Just have to hope the Patriots win the Superbowl tonight or it will complete a horrible weekend for me.

Why did ya have to do it Djibril? We were coasting until then.

Cisse gives Wolves 3 poiints, belief and a spring board to Premier League survival. Big mistake!

All because he was a little too interested in Roger Johnson's beard.

BTW Johnson should be commended for not reacting to either provocation. UTW!

Thought Huth was very unlucky last night to be sent off. His pulled out of the challenge and put his legs in meaning he basically made contact with his legs. I think the speed with which it happened combined with the reaction of the player on the end of the challenge made Huth see red. Hopefully the card will be recinded on appeal and I wont have to sell the big lump.

I agree. Considering the weather conditions, he was certainly unlucky.

However, he was not in full control of his challenge (on the ice) and did appear to make contact with the player, so i can see why he was dismissed. Difficult call on appeal considering the wording of the clarification this week.

Current rank of 1406, but seem to do at least one think wrong every gw. Left McLean on the bench this week for some reason. Would love a game called off today (spurs) but all games will be on. Looked at Hugh and cisse but resisted and bought in Walcott at last minute which turned out to be a master stroke. Big thing I dodged was making sure I captained RVP instead of aguero and all 7 under me in league captained RVP so would have been disastrous. I think the good players seem to always make a mistake but the players who are obviously not that great fluke something every week. Like a high scoring player off the bench because of a stupid decision to play ferguson or someone. Cue McLean scoring on MOTD.

In hindsight who do you plan to drop for McLean. I have sig on the bench. Hindsight tells me why did I play Dempsey against City but then again why would I drop a striker in form....

I think all games will go ahead, also Simpson and ba should outscore sig so probly makes no difference for me.

The leader of my mini-league is extremely lucky every single week (...well he obviously has a good squad though).

But he always gets points from the bench in the most unlikely circumstances. Like last night Kompany didnt play so he'll have McClean coming off the bench. He didnt even play his wildcard which suggests to me he didnt even know about it.

I'm going to catch him though god damnit 🙂

he has been on the radar for a while but i never felt the need for more ARS with RvP in my side.

looks like he could be worth a punt for a week or two. can't be worse than Drenthe....

A pretty good effort from Australia to get to 5/216 from 32 overs, considering that they were at one stage, 3/49 from 15 overs. We basically wasted the first 11 overs thinking that this was a 50 over game. Nonetheless, this will be an interesting chase from India.

In fact, since rain interrupted play, Australia have added 181 runs from 132 balls. It's a shame that the Duckworth-Lewis system comes into play in situations like this. It could never factor the fact that Australia played the first 11 overs as though it was a 50 over game.

McClean is giving me a selection headache. I brought him in on wildcard to be bench fodder, first week I had him was away to Chelsea so of course he was benched. The week after that Ade was ineligible so he played, then I decided to play him over Fletcher last week and this week I picked him over Dempsey. For a 4.5m midfielder, his returns have been great considering I have played him 3 times and got 8, 7, 8 (plus a probable 3 baps).

Looking at next week's fixtures, do I play him at home to Arsenal or go with Fletcher at home to WBA? I wouldn't be surprised if Sunderland got a couple of goals.

I agree re bench dilemma. I've just been working on my team for next week and I think I am going to have to bench Sess, which seems insane...In a perverse way I want someone to get injured so I don't have to make these tough choices. PS I would probably go Fletcher; I am going Graham over Sess next week (currently).

The average just now is 30 which isn't high at all. Add the bonus to that brings it right up but it will do the same for the people currently on 60-70 pushing that score well beyond average.

It could be one of the highest GW averages for a while. I've got those four players to play so hoping for a 90+ week at least.

You know what? At times I hate this site!

Popped on here yesterday morning and read the "RVP could be dropped" yadda yadda
Stupidly logged onto FPL and swapped the armband from RVP to Silva.
While on there I also swapped Mignolet for Vorn on a gut feeling.

So add that onto trasferring Cisse in for Welbeck then I've had a bit of a sh!te week!

Sounds more like your stupidity than anything else. This site ignored the Sun article about RVP being rested but reported when Wenger was quoted as saying he might freshen things up acknowledging the temptation to rest RVP is always there. And if you are sure he will be dropped but still unsure you could have captained RVP in case and made someone else your VC giving you a back up if he doesn't play.

If you read the posts yesterday there were the people worrying about him not playing and equally a bunch of people convinced he would start as per every other GW.

I know what you're all saying, but what I mean is if I hadn't popped on here, I wouldn't have had any doubts in my mind and I wouldn't have gone onto FPL and buggered my team up!

Heading out of the cup too! Gutted!

Although I didn't watch the game, I remember people on here were so confident about Kompany's red card too. Wait & see, I guess. But I still feel Stoke players are a BIG BIG mistake this Feb.

    Hello lads!

Any latest updates on the weather from Newcastle & London? Game set to carry on, as scheduled?

PS: I sincerely hope they're cancelled 1) Chelsea's in terrible form 2) I have 18 points sitting on my bench. 😕

Btw. Unlucky for the Verminator, eh? Off the post. So close from a good haul.

Should have just got Richards in hindsight.

Darn it! Are you ready tonight then for the big one? 😉

I can see it going both ways honestly with our form & missing players. The first 15 mins will be super crucial at the Bridge.
