In patriotic fashion, the Saturday palette of games duly started with a red, passed through a flurry of white, and ended with the blue side of Manchester celebrating a 17th successive home league win – but this being a disciplinary round-up, we’re only interested in the first bit of that mélange.

The first red in question, in the lunchtime Emirates massacre, was shown to Blackburn defender Gaël Givet, with the former French international given his marching orders for a two-footed lunge on Robin van Persie when the score was already 3-1 to the home side. Steve Kean will now have to do without his services for the next 3 games (QPR, mci, AVL) and will hope to convince want-away club captain Chris Samba to don his boots again for the club.

In a week where the tackling laws were clarified by referees chief Mike Riley, going in with two feet was always going to be a risky strategy for Givet, but fronting up to your opponent and grabbing him around the neck as our next perpetrator managed, is on another level. The Lord of the Manor of Frodsham (or Djibril Cissé as he is more commonly known), took objection to a challenge by Wolves defender Roger Johnson and his subsequent retaliation after 34 minutes left his QPR teammates exposed. Since then, he has used his Twitter feed to apologise to the club’s fans, but will now find himself amongst them in the stands for the next three (bla, FUL, EVE).

A hat-trick of straight reds for eventual losing sides was completed in the 45th minute of Sunderland’s 1-0 win at the Britannia, as Stoke defender (and scout pick) Robert Huth was also adjudged by referee Martin Atkinson to have fallen foul of those clarified rules with a slide tackle on David Meyler that failed to collect the ball. The strong post match comments from Stoke manager Tony Pulis, suggest that an appeal may be on the cards for this one, but for the meantime, the three matches missed by Huth include the FA cup tie at Crawley Town, and Premier League matches against Fulham (a) and Swansea (H) in Gameweeks 25 and 26.

GAMEWEEK 25 BANS

  • Gaël Givet (BLA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Mario Balotelli (MCI) – FA Charge (last of 4 matches)
  • Yohan Cabaye (NEW) – FA Charge (last of 3 matches)
  • Djibril Cissé (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Robert Huth (STO) – 1 Red for serious foul play (first of 3 matches)
  • Karl Henry (WOL) – 1 Red for serious foul play (last of 3 matches)

At least with Cisse being suspended there isn't that temptation to keep for one more week like all the Torres owners seem to have. Just get Ba and enjoy as the points come in.

Same here, I can see Ba not delivering this week (if he starts on the bench) and then getting a 2 pointer at WHL. I hope anyway since rival has brought him back in.

Then he's back in my team GW26 for Wolves at home megapoints.

Didn't bookmark it but I said yesterday morning that with all the negativity on here (RVP rested, City called off etc) that it would be a great gameweek.

Anyone else find that the weeks you expect to do well end up being a disaster whereas the weeks where it doesn't look good end up going well?

RVP(c) was never in doubt, what I'm most depressed about is that practically everyone else in my mini-leagues also went RVP(c) so it means little... I was really hoping a lot would have gone Aguero(c) what with Wenger's press conference about resting RVP.

You can play Ba away to Spurs. It's not great but he can score against anyone. I'd rather do that rather than take a 4 point hit only to then use another transfer to get Ba the week after.

    Hey guys,
I have two FTs but not really an idea what to do.

    Mignolet Vorm
    BAE Richard Simpson Shotton Kelly
    Silva Valencia Moses Bale Dempsey
    RVP Aguero Fletcher 0.0

I might keep Fletcher for GW25, so the only change that comes to my mind is Shotton>Wilkinson. No one seems really dropable. I definitely want Ba for GW26 so have to work that out, but I don't want to destroy my team balance completely.
    Any suggestions?

Breaking News - Snow disruption. Same borefest every year. They go live to Heathrow to explain how many flights have been cancelled. Why is that news worthy? Let's be honest noone really cares if people miss their flight somewhere. Your not going to have peace of mind knowing that the masses boarded their flights and will reach their destinations. It's complete garbage reporting. It's not as if Sky News is your port of call to determine if your flight plans have been affected or not.

Bad move there, JD. Really bad.

Bad K injury before the deadline. Panic struck. I had to decide Richards or Verm/Kosc. Fancied Dempsey for a goal (keeping McClean on the bench). Suggested you to get Kosc (who got an assist) but guess what....I went and got Verm! 😕

If Bad K returns from injury & there are no other pending transfers, I'm doing Verm > Bad K.

Don't trust Richie to start/stay injury-free for all games until GW29.

                  JD it was!

Another reason I got Verm over Richards - I was afraid of having too many MCI-FUL players in case the game got cancelled. Already had 4. It all back-fired - I realised what I'd done immediately at 11:31. Never been a Verm fan.

I'm a big fan of his. I agree he doesn't get much of a mention on here. I think Rodgers has got his Swansea starting Xl more settled than it's been all season and they look brilliant. I have Graham just now which isn't bad for a 3rd cheap striker but I think Zamora/Ba is worth the upgrade. So my Swansea coverage is gonna be Sinclair or Siggy.

Definitely worth it. Sinclair's already a proven FPL player, esp at home.

Siggy's been amassing the points, but his stats aren't too appealing to suggest they'll continue. McClean's a better bet in that range, imo.

Ox is on fire! he was great against United and amazing yesterday, only problem is that he is only 18 so his form will vary i think.. And Arse have a couple of games that are a bit difficult. With Sunderland Away (who is in tremendous form), and Tottenham and Liverpool
Siggy: Just came to swans this transfer window and has had amazing impact already with 3 assist and a goal,
Sinclair: is on penalities and is a good player, but he is maybe a bit inconsistent? Swans have good games ahead, Norwich at home, stoke away and wigan away. Stoke will be difficult I think. But the other two are great games for Sinclair and Sigg.

I would go for Sigg, i believe he's more consistent than sinclair

JackAttack are you still showing faith in Verm? I know you are a big fan. He was so close to scoring and the Pedersen free-kick was one of their only chances so he really wasn't far away from a 12 pointer. Fine line between 2 points and 12. Minus 1 for his yellow card obsession. Did you see how far he pushes up the pitch at the Emirates. Does looks good for future point scoring when they are on top of teams.
