An eventful Gameweek 24 concludes tonight at a foggy Anfield, where title contenders Tottenham Hotspur take on in-form hosts Liverpool. The Monday Night Football Dugout Discussion promises to be an exciting one, with talking points aplenty already.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp isn’t in Merseyside tonight, having spent the day in Southwark Crown Court and seeing his flight up grounded due to ‘technical problems’. He’s named a side though and, along with the home side, it’s as follows…

Liverpool XI: Reina, Johnson, Kelly, Agger, Skrtel, Spearing, Kuyt, Gerrard, Adam, Carroll, Bellamy.

Spurs XI:Friedel, Walker, Dawson, King, Assou-Ekotto, Kranjcar, Livermore, Modric, Parker, Bale, Adebayor.

Luis Suarez’s lengthy ban has ended, meaning Kenny Dalglish can name him amongst the substitutes. The undroppable Craig Bellamy starts, as does Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll. Elsewhere, fantasy favourite Jose Enrique misses the clash, woth Martin Kelly coming in.

As for the visitors, Ledley King starts, but there’s no Rafael Van der Vaart, Aaron Lennon or Jermain Defoe, meaning Harry Redknapp is forced to name an unfamiliar line-up.

Follow it unfold in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

The Fulham back four is odd, there is no reason as far as I know for Riise not to have played against City, instead Baird came in at LB, Kelly RB, with Riise coming on at 70 minutes for Senderos because he was dire.
Not sure who played there after that.

That made me decide to bring in Kelly instead of Senderos this week

Well maybe, lots of players out (JD/Lennon/VDV), some out of form (Ade), can't see a big score. 1-0 would do, but Toon can also score or even keep it clean.

Bale should have been sent off, not clear if the yellow was for the (fairly blatant) dive or the push(es) on Agger or Johnson. If he has booked him for the dive he has clearly seen Bale raise his hands two/three times so it must be a red. If he was booked for the pushes how can he not have seen the dive if he didn't give a free against Agger. Having said that, Suarez was also lucky to stay on the pitch, the replays show he took a look at Parker before kicking out.

i don't think it was a red, players push like that all the time. It's different if it's in the face like what Cisse did but pushing in the chest is very common (sometimes not even a yellow).

Avoided the tackle? There was no tackle to avoid, hence the dive. He was looking for contact, Agger didn't fall for it = blatant dive

Yes, there were no hand gestures but rolling around on the ground without being touched served the same point, disagree if you like but it looked fairly obvious to me that he wanted a free kick

It may be the way I wrote it but I don't think in a million years any ref would have sent Bale off. What I am saying is that they were two bookable offences (imo) and therefore he should have got two yellows = red. Never happens like that but if refs want people to stop calling them inconsitent then maybe they should start giving reds in those situations.

i think its quite customary to award hands to anything _above_ the shoulders with a red. agger, on the other hand, should have had a yellow for unsportsmanlike conduct (yes, that is actually the laws of the game)

Was he unsportsmanlike? He didn't touch Bale at all when Bale was on the ground, just told him (pretty harshly) what he thought of the dive. Players give each other abuse all the time when they're on their feet, it just looked worse with him standing over Bale

surely agger has a right to tell someone who dived that he dived? then bale pushes him and he doesn't react. therefore a yellow for agger would be for talking. it's nice to see a ref not give equal punishment to both parties, normally you see what i feel is the easy option of just booking both

OK. Saurez has been done by the FA but his manager is sticking by him, and one assumes KD knows his players, as any manager would, and feels the FA is wrong.

I see nothing wrong with that. It happens all the time.

I don't see a culture of racial abuse within Liverpool FC. I don't see a culture of racism within LFC any more than any other club.

Yes, KD should let it go and move on. I wish he would as going round in circles like this does no-one any good.

Where's a good 'bringing the game into disrepute' charge when you need it?

Dalglish, and by extension, 'Pool's reaction to this is diabolical. I'm also of the opinion that Chels isn't far behind. Booing players who make race charges? I'm afraid to say: *that's* the definition of a culture of racial abuse.

That would do it, KE, and I wouldn't disagree with it. I am not trying to defend KD here as I think his actions are ridiculous and totally unwanted. All I am trying to say is that he is not stupid, he knows his players and onbviously disagrees with recent events. As for the definition of a culture of racial abuse. It doesn't work in football and with a lot fo football fans, and that's shite too. Most are sadly too moronic to realise what they are actually booing 🙁

Same decision for me, i'll be getting one this week and the other one the following week. No idea who to get first, Siggurdson is at home to Norwich but Taarabt could be played as a striker and could be on pens if Helguson doesn't play. Plus Blackburn always concede.

Who would you bench this week:

    Valencia, Bale, Sess, Silva, Dempsey

Thinking Valencia (who may not play the full 90, and might be pushed into defence again), any thoughts?

I'm benching Valencia, I have Aguero and McClean playing over him instead of your Dzeko and Sess, but he looks like the one to drop this week, fairly solid Liverpool defence

        You've got to bench Dzeko.

Man U will score goals. Dzeko isn't a guaranteed starter and is inconsistent. My gut instinct said Rooney would score against Chelsea when everyone else subbed him out. Granted Valencia only got 2, but Man Utd looked good against Chelsea and they will score against Liverpool.

Fair point, although with Man U playing at home, in the last 5 home matches Valencia has played in he's picked up 46 points. With City away, in the last 5 away matches Dzeko has played in, he's picked up 15 points.

Liverpool will be tough, but so were Chelsea and they still managed 3 goals.

    For my darling Doos 😛

Are you still considering selling Silva?

I ask as I'm looking to free up funds for Gerbil ➡ Ba next week and Aguero ➡ Rooney in GW28

My idea was Silva ➡ Yaya but that idea has gone down like a lead baloon. the other option is to lose Valencia for a mid of 6.9 or less (ideally who rotates with McLean) could go Ox, or Cleverley, or Giggs (or Tarrabt, Jarvis ,or just play McLean every week and get Surman

The Silva > Yaya transfer is one I'm strongly considering too. If the Ivory Coast get to the ACON Final that will be this weekend, then he has two weeks rest before the next gamesweek. Then Graham > Ba.

Seems a reasonable proposition to me. What's the negativity behind it?

Silva's general points scoring ability it seems. I however am beginning to doubt if the odd 7 or 8 makes him worth 9 to 10 million when Yaya is 3 million less and is capabale of equal returns

Silva for Yaya for a feww weeks? Hmm I was talking more for GW26 it keeps my City coverage in place for the 2 home fxtures. The alternative is, as i said lose Valenica (who could concievabley come in for Yaya GW28 anyway and no Rooney post GW27 which seems crazy.

I'm not doing it until GW26 anyway, so Yaya should be back and will have had 1 week off due to international friendlies, I expect him to play vs Blackburn and Bolton. So you don't think it's a silly move?

I agree - I can cope with the odd Silva double figure score if Yaya can get the odd goal, assist and bonus point.

The only worry I have is 1. If Yaya is not introduced straight away; and 2. If that's the case City have two juicy home fixtures which Silva could really exploit.

F*ck it, Mata and Ba in for Gerrard and Fletcher for a 4 point hit. Had been planning for weeks to do it GW26 but with Ba rising again tonight and Gerrard looking like he could fall Friday night I might not be able to afford it. Had I done it on Friday I'd have an extra 10 points now and .6 in the bank instead of .1. Not happy but sometimes its best to take a hit to correct mistakes.

Oh well, I present the Super Seven:

    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Mata
    RVP, Aguero, Ba

True, there's not really a 4th mid I consider super at the moment. Not keen on Sess since I have McClean and with Utd's fixtures plus Young back I'm not sure about Valencia. Hoping Mata goes on a nice points run, Might have to wait for GW26 at home to Bolton though.

The 6 stars next to my midfielders and strikers look pretty great. Loving the strikeforce.

Still a respectable score and rank though, huh?
Many would love to be in your position.
      Rejoice imo.

I'm happy playing the game and definitely happy to have scratched my way slowly but surely into mini league lead for the first time this week. Hallelujah!!!

It's the "if only's" that hurt... who was my captain this week... 😉

I must assume you went with Kun. Any other week it would have been a good choice.

Tis' mostly luck though, with a modicum of skill.
I liken it to playing the share market.

More skill involved in playing the market I think. The "luck" quotient is too high in this game and that's frustrating

It was better before (no, really, it was), by this time we would have both baps and updated leagues
