With yesterday’s results overshadowed by the now infamous non-handshake at Old Trafford, the Dugout Discussion opens today for what will hopefully be a controversy-free day of football. Having been displaced at the summit of the Premier League, Manchester City travel to Aston Villa where a draw will see them climb back to the top. Before that we have a Black Country derby to enjoy, as Wolves aim to drag their rivals West Brom in to the relegation scrap, and the Baggies try to increase their breathing space from it. The team news is in…

Wolves XI: Hennessey, Foley, Johnson, Bassong, Ward, Doyle, Edwards, O’Hara, Jarvis, Ebanks-Blake, Fletcher.

West Brom XI: Foster, Reid, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell, Odemwingie, Morrison, Scharner, Mulumbu, Thomas, Fortune.

Mick McCarthy names an attacking side which features a trio of strikers in Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher. For the visitor’s, Liam Ridgewell makes his debut for West Brom at the expense of Nicky Shorey, and Paul Scharner starts ahead of Graeme Dorrans.

You can follow all the action as it happens in our Dugout Discussion chatroom, which can be accessed right here.

So, potentially controversial suggestion but does anyone else think that points from auto-subs should be reduced? How about this:

First Sub: -1 from the player's total score
Second Sub: -2 from the player's total score
Third Sub: -3 from the player's total score
Minimum in all cases is Zero.

This would reduce the jammy-ness element (without going too far) and force more strategy and consideration.

Sorry but I think that's a terrible idea. Removes the point in having a decent bench. Besides, I enjoy getting jammy points.

I agree or getting only half of the bench points. It will put more value on first 11 selection and getting the decision right

Instead they should disable an auto-sub if a team fields a 'RED' flagged player..

So that people will have to log in REGULARLY and bench injured/banned players and not just enjoy the fluke points off the bench..

there's no way one can know which players will start or which ones doesnt, so no reason to inflict handicap (player not starting is already enough penalization for the player already)

the heartbreaking back story to the post is the person immediately above me getting 24 points in the last two weeks from the player 2nd and 3rd(!) on their bench.

Yes there was some planning with regards to the first one and, yes, they had a decent squad. But nobody can argue that there is also something hugely flukey about that.

Yes, I'm quite bitter, but I'm not saying they should lose all the points - Just that there be more of a bias towards first team decisions as these are the most strategic.

Just been on our messageboards, and there are a fair few on there advocating a start for ferguson (yes THAT ferguson!) on the left, with Jonas switching to the right (he is right footed). I would still expect Pardew to go for Raylor, but I personally like the sound of of the fergie option. It also means that raylor could actually be competing 3 players for the right mid spot.

He should have shaken evra's hand as part of the pre-match ritual and he never but he has apologised. The situation is now over with, suarez has served his ban and it's over

It is over until the next time, i give it 3 weeks before he does something ridiculous again. I saw a "Luis Suarez Show" banner in the style of bloody writing like the rocky horror show at anfield during the spurs game, i think some scousers actually think it's funny that he bit a player during a game. It's only a matter of time before he's fooked out on his ear.

It needs to be remembered that individuals feelings won't necessarily determine the outcome to this. Money now talks More than loyalty or moral stances. If the sponsors say jump, they will need to push.......watch this space......

No, I wouldn't expect Bridge to shake Terry's hand, but it was Terry who slept with the mother of Bridge's child . . . Not the other way. In this case, it's Suarez who uttered the racist comment, not Evra. Terry and Suarez are the perps, not the other way around.

So, if the victim extends his hand to the perp, and the perp doesn't shake his hand, that is some f*cked up stuff, man.

So, yours is a bad analogy.

Always more goals in the second, and man city spend at least 70 minutes probing before scoring. Never exciting viewing

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has apologised for not shaking Patrice Evra's hand before Saturday's game at Old Trafford. Suarez told Liverpool's website: "I have spoken with the Manager since the game at Old Trafford and I realise I got things wrong. I've not only let him down, but also the Club and what it stands for and I'm sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened. I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions. I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing football."

Doubt Evra would ever have tried to calm things down like this.

@BTBB Suarez is still adament that he did nothing wrong, and to be fair I kinda think this has all just been a mix up in culture differences. In South America, what Suarez did was socially acceptable. Is it reasonable to expect footballers to follow our societies norms when many in this country do not?

exactly...what's perceived as offensive in one culture/ country may not be seen as offensive in others

it's a multi cultural game now and sure you are playing in england but you need to understand other cultures rather than just shoving the culture here down everyones throats. We here think we are right and this is the right way to live and everyone should have the same thinking and beliefs and understanding as us

Well, perhaps I am not fair. But I will have nothing to do with Liverpool until Dalglish and Suarez go. They are beyond the pale.

As long as you are aware that your being unfair its fine.

Dalglish is scottish and as such has absolutely no excuse for his behaviour. At the very start of this he should have explained to Suarez what he had done wrong, instead of showing solidarity.

We cant impose rules of the premierleague until they are accepted by the country. Correct me if I am wrong, but in my opinion there are a lot of foreigners in this country who do not respect our culture.

(This isnt an anti immigration post btw)

Racially abusing somebody is illegal. That rule has been accepted by the country.

He has been totally shitty. He knows it you know it, Dalgish knows it - as do the other Liverpool players. There are no more excuses. Sorry.

Even in his apology he never directly apologises to Evra for not shaking hands. Kind of agree with you on the race issue but there's no doubt he used it as a way of deliberatley trying to antagonise Evra. The guy is an animal, he WILL strike again. Hope he's turfed out of the league next time.

Well tbf he should follow the norms of the society he currently he lives in.. so he was wrong there..
But we also know how evra is.. who is also responsible in some way for this becoming such a huge fiasco..

Ultimately liverpool are the biggest losers here..

.......and this will be felt most when sponsors (and their money) start to drift away. Liverpool cannot afford to lose this revenue stream but I think is's too late. I understand Standard Chartered are currently reviewing the situation, in light of the whole affair, and might ultimately choose to part company with the club, citing brand association differences.....

You 'doubt Evra would have tried to calm things down', do you? Pure conjecture.

Cultural differences?! Seriously?! Read this by Tony Evans, 50+ year Liverpool fgan and Times jouirnalist:

Look, all of these Suarez apologists who state that he replied to Evra asking him not to touch him, "Because you are black?" and suggest that this remark has gotten lost in the translation because of culture differences, are full of it. I am South American and, in any country in South America, if someone responds int that manner, it is a derogatory (ie, racists) statement. End of story.

For those Suarez apologists that state Suarez did not utter those comments, let's put that to bed with these extracts from their (including Suarez's) statements in which Luis admits it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/01/fa-report-luis-suarez-patrice-evra

So, how did we get to this point yesterday? Suarez was racist with his insults to Evra, then to add insult to injury, Suarez refused to shake Evra's extended hand (can you imagine Terry, the perp, refusing to shake Bridge's, the victim's, hand?) - extremely childish and ignorant. And then, at the end, to show that Evra is certainly no angel, rather than take the high road, he childishly celebrates directly in front of Suarez as he's leaving the field.

Pretty crappy all around, but the real losers are Luis Suarez and Liverpool. Utterly embarassing. Let's not lose sight that the facts are out there and stop chalking this up to "cultural differences". It demeans the entire situation.
