A short lull in Premier League action has afforded us time to re-assess our Watchlist rankings. These have now been fully updated to reflect form and the fixture list over the next month and, as always, you’ll find them in your right-hand sidebar. Read on for a summary of the key movements and factors at play…

Goalkeepers

Tim Krul holds the top spot amongst the stoppers, despite the 5-0 White Hart Lane drubbing, with Wolves, Sunderland and Norwich all due in his backyard in the next four Gameweeks.

Krul’s fixtures do hand him a tough away trip to Arsenal in Gameweek 28, however, with Liverpool also visiting in Gameweek 31. There’s no obvious rotation option to work in tandem with the Newcastle keeper– Wolves’ Wayne Hennessey has Blackburn and Bolton at home in those Gameweeks, while Villa’s Shay Given also has two home matches – Bolton and Chelsea. Norwich City’s John Ruddy could be another option to work with Krul. The Norwich keeper has Wigan at home while Krul visits the Emirates and then hosts Wolves with Newcastle at West Brom, with a visit to Fulham on offer as an alternative to Krul’s home fixture with Liverpool.

If you’re looking beyond Krul for your keeper option, then Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi climbs to second as a serious budget consideration. While the Latics back four is porous, four home fixtures against Villa, Swansea, West Brom and Stoke offer the Oman international the opportunity to grab an unlikely clean sheet, while Al-Habsi has already hovered up save points so far this term – including four penalty saves.

Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer is now back in Martin Jol’s starting lineup and offers coverage of their defence during a kind run of fixtures, although full-back Stephen Kelly looks a cheaper route into the Cottagers’ back line. Shay Given returns to the reckoning, with favourable home fixtures with Fulham and Bolton hovering, following two away trips to Wigan and Blackburn. Given looks to work well in tandem with Stoke’s Thomas Sorensen or QPR’s Paddy Kenny over the next four Gameweeks.

At the top end of the price bracket, Chelsea’s Petr Cech joins City’s Joe Hart as a consideration – the keeper possibly offers the most secure route into a Chelsea defence that faces Bolton, West Brom and Stoke in the next three.

Defenders

Vincent Kompany continues to wrestle with team-mate Micah Richards for the spot as the most coveted defender. With Richards rested at Villa, the City skipper looks to have sealed the spot atop our Watchlist rankings with his greater security. Across the other side of Manchester, Jonny Evans now looks well established in the United back four and offers outstanding value, despite two away trips to come for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Ryan Taylor climbs back into our top five, in anticipation of his return to fitness and a spot on the right-flank for the visit of Wolves. If Taylor can cement this midfield role, he will clearly offer the strongest defensive option with the Newcastle lineup, despite his inflated price tag. Danny Simpson’s stock drops this week as a result.

Jose Bosingwa is our choice for Chelsea coverage, although he looks far from secure. He might just be worth a punt for the home clash with Bolton, despite defensive frailties in Andre Villas-Boas’ backline. Amidst talk of unrest in the Chelsea camp, Bosingwa looks to have established himself as a favourite, having started 10 of the last 11 league matches.

Midfielders

The top four here remain unshakable, although David Silva will need to produce a goal or two soon to hold off the push from Chelsea’s Juan Mata and team-mate Yaya Toure, who both enjoy climbs this week.

Yohan Cabaye returns to our thinking, having served his three-match ban – fixtures are in his favour over the next four Gameweeks and, with Cheik Tiote expected to return alongside him, Cabaye could be a key figure as Newcastle look to climb into the top four.

Wigan’s Victor Moses and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are low-to-mid price options pushing for consideration. Moses has four home games in six off the back of improved form, while Chamberlain will be looking to maintain his run of starts, despite the return of Gervinho from the African Cup of Nations.

Villa’s Stiliyan Petrov is the big differential lower down the rankings. Villa’s fixtures are strong and the Bulgarian remains the most likely to return attacking points in Alex McLeish’s midfield – edging Charles N’Zogbia, Stephen Ireland and Gary Gardner, who all seem less secure.

Forwards

Wayne Rooney begins to push the established top three but cannot break the trio of Robin Van Persie, Sergio Aguero and Demba Ba, who have either form or fixtures in their favour. Rooney is the only attacking option within the United ranks in our Watchlist this week, with Antonio Valencia dropping out through injury and Ashley Young and Nani set for the first league starts in months, when they visit Norwich next time out. Elsewhere in the United camp, a lack of security dampens enthusiasm for Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.

Below Rooney, there are some decent differentials available for those looking to shake-up the template forward line. QPR’s Bobby Zamora and Villa’s Darren Bent both have fixtures and decent form which should offer returns over the next four Gameweeks. Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge remains a consideration with fixtures compensating for a lack of form, while Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor will have to show fixture-proof qualities if he is to get close to replicating his outstanding returns in the 5-0 win against Newcastle over the next month.

Budget options take a backseat with mid-price alternatives looking strong this month. Swansea’s Danny Graham has form and looks the best option, despite three away games in four. Norwich’s Grant Holt edges above team-mate Steve Morison for the first time this season but will have to deal with the United, Stoke and Newcastle defences in the next four.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Latest update on the FFS CL:
In light of everyone's hard work on their gravs, group leaders will be now able to boast their gravs/logo besides the group, to show their dominance in the group standings.

If you're around on FFS now:
    1) Upload on http://imgur.com/ and pass me the link; OR
    2) Give me the URL of the grav.

Else, you could mail it to me at sathvik08@gmail.com.

PS: If we don't have your grav when you're a leader, we'll put up the team logo.
PPS: Please spread the word if possible, to your group-mates et al. Link others to this FFS post and ask them to drop a comment here/mail me. 🙂
PPPS: Coming soon to Europa! Watch out for Parmtree's updates.

    Who should I captain??

    Krul (Vorm)

    Simpson Kompany Caulker (kelley/shotton)

    Mata Sess Silva Dempsey

    RVP Aguero Ba

    Right now my feeling is:

    1.Aguero
    2.Silva
    3.Mata
    4.Ba

Some tough choices to make next week:

Who do you bench from Bale, Silva, Dumpertruck, Siggasigah, Sess and the B R A front 3?

Then, who do you cap'n? With Aguero at present.

All in all the way goals and BPs are scored, a goal from a mid is worth about two assists - and I would say I'm more confident in Sess scoring as Sunderland's striker against WBA than Siggy assisting twice / scoring away to Stoke.

Also, I'd say the Swansea points are divided between more players - scorers could be Graham, Dyer, Sinclair, with Siggy at the back. Not so spread out at Sunderland.

Well, the pie is divided more ways at City but you could argue the pie (goals scored) is considerably bigger than Newcastle's so Aguero might win out. I am seriously tempted by Ba so the theory is being applied! Bale does have a huge slice of the pie (freakish last match excluded) and a rather big pie too so he's pretty nailed on for me.

Hubocan (5) Puyol (4) Arbeloa Zuniga
    Fabregas (5) Mata Callejon
    Messi (C) (9) Ronaldo Gomez

Subs: Malafeev (0) Kroos Charalambides (3) Umtiti (0)

Kroos and Gomez play last. Good score coming up or not? Would you risk taking the captaincy off Messi?

Latest update on the FFS Europa League:
In light of everyone’s hard work on their gravs, group leaders will be now able to boast their gravs/logo besides the group, to show their dominance in the group standings.

If you’re around on FFS now:
    1) Upload on http://imgur.com/ and pass me the link; OR
    2) Give me the URL of the grav.

Else, you could mail it to Udit at UditAgrawal1993@gmail.com.

PS: If we don’t have your grav when you’re a leader, we’ll put up the team logo.
PPS: Please spread the word if possible, to your group-mates et al. Link others to this FFS post and ask them to drop a comment here/mail Usit.

Exactly what I've got planned - Valencia -> Siggy to free up funds for Aguero -> Rooney for gw28. I thought I already had it sorted (with 0.8 in the bank) but then Rooney annoyingly started to rise.

I think this week could be an even more important captain choice than last. Last week seemed a challenge, but none of the likely contenders ended up scoring more than 5 really. This week could be very interesting. I'm on Aguero for now, for what it's worth, but Ba tempts me.

Sure Alex, I've changed those 3 in the group standings. Agreed we could have the full names in the group standings. Though it'd be better to have the shorter version elsewhere (fixtures, etc.) to make it concise.

Don't worry I fully expect to lash out at FuzzyCzarbles. Apparently he will bear the brunt of Porto's misdirected anger!!!

I think rotation is making it more difficult - often enough this season I've planned something carefully only to find rotation has killed my plans. Also last season I had more patience with players, which actually often seems to pay off in the long run.

Yeah for me it's 1) rotation 2) not getting form players in for fear of chasing points 3) getting rid of form players based on fixtures 4) home cheapie defenders 5) Ryan Taylor

This season has definitely been form over fixtures in general, which helps the casual too.

My top 5 mistakes this season:
              1) Ditching Sturridge for Bendtner just as Sturridge hit his purple patch
              2) Bringing in Rooney for a hit, and ditching Silva, only to find Rooney dropped for boxing day antics.
              3) Benching Newcastle defenders for a lot of their clean sheets
              4) Over-investment in dgw players for Spurs - Everton... big flop.
              5) Always seem to have the wrong Man City defender

Btw, with thrashing I mean 5-10 pts as we have 7 players common in attack+mid, and probably 2 at the back.

Haha I think I might pull it off again. Him or Dempsey - but I'm struggling to bench Demp.

My motivation to bench Sir James is two-fold:
              1) I know you will start James, and when I bench him, he scores. C'mon Porto!
              2) I want to put myself in contention for the Dalglish Differentials.

In the latest development from the Stamford Bridge, Roman Abramovich has been forced to recruit a new co-manager at the Stamford Bridge in light of Chelsea’s slide in form.

Reports from the Daily Mail suggest that he was forced to make this appointment in light of his captain John Terry’s mischief during his mysterious vacation in Japan. Apparently, the new co-manager is a highly sought-after gravure model in Japan, which is how she landed in the John’s arms.

In AVB’s latest press conference, he said “Yeah (cough) the new appointment (rough voice) is absolutely true. In light of the appointment of Hitomi Tanaka, (cough) I have decided to hand over my responsibilities in the (cough) Champions League to her, since I would like to keep my boys (cough) focused (cough) for the Premier League.”

The rumored transfer fee for Hitomi Tanaka is around the region of GBP 50.01 mil.

So there we have it – Chelsea’s latest manager in the UCL – HITOMI TANAKA – known to be good on the ball on the field as well as off it.

Clearly you need Rukawa's help, Alex Song.

Try tweeting him @RukawaIsMyGod. He's around all the time.

If Rukawa was currently residing in Japan.. he could have gotten us some uncensored black market Tanaka Epics.. Sadly he is not and we wont get to see Miss Hitomi in all her glory.. 🙁 😛

    Mornin' 🙂
Hmmmm. Looks like I'll be starting the competition with a four point hit, and away from home.
Maybe I take an eight pointer to set myself up for the following week.
That way I can throw away any advantage I have in my other H2H leagues because I become ridiculously obsessed with the new one.

Editors have checked this story and confirmed they have been unable to find any typos. Roman Abramovich has passed on his congratulations to Hitomi, saying he was sure she had the spunk to pull it off.
