Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Papiss Cisse, Kevin Doyle, Pavel Pogrebnyak, Peter Odemwingie and James Morrison – these were the protagonists from Saturday’s Fantasy events so far. Of that bunch, only Odemwingie can claim more than 3% Fantasy Premier League ownership.

All eyes now turn to the Etihad where Sergio Aguero and David Silva carry the hopes of many. Should they fail to produce, they will join a list of names that includes Stephane Sessegnon, Demba Ba, Clint Dempsey and the Newcastle defence – all were heavily backed by Fantasy managers and all of them let us down. The winds of change are beginning to build.

West Brom’s four goals against a seemingly resurgent Sunderland was undoubtedly the result of the day. Peter Odeminwingie made it five goals in two games, James Morison again pulled the strings and came away with his second goal in five games – with four assists in that run, he’s now emerging as a genuine mid-price Fantasy talent.

Was it really an unforeseen thrashing? Those members who took in the recent Numbers Game article may have anticipated events. The Baggies went into the game with the most threatening attack in the league over the last four Gameweeks – better than Tottenham’s, stronger than United’s. Roy Hodgson’s side duly delivered on their statistical form and will now go into games against Chelsea and United brimming with confidence. Even if this isn’t matched by heavy Fantasy investment, that could well arrive soon. Fixtures improve markedly from Gameweek 29 – starting with a trip to Wigan, just one of five games currently played out in that Gameweek.

In the opposite camp from today’s 4-0 result, doubts will now be building when it comes to the recent revival under Martin O’Neill. Sessegnon and budget wonderkid James McClean will visit rivals Newcastle next, then host Liverpool. With the missing fixture still possible in Gameweek 29, Sessegnon’s stock, having soared so high, may start to decline should he draw a blank at Newcastle.

Sessegnon could be the first victim then – the first shed as the template midfield and attacks get broken up. Only the brave benefited from today’s differential deliveries, but it will likely take bigger balls to cling to failing assets and wait for the class to come good once again.

Demba Ba – a player who has rocketed in price and ownership in recent weeks, could be next to suffer sales, should his strike partner Cisse continue to flourish. Even Fulham’s Clint Dempsey, shifted to a wide role by Martin Jol in recent weeks, has notched just a single assist in his last three – his owners will be looking to home matches with Wolves and Swansea as crucial Gameweeks; disappoint there and he too could become expendable.

Of course, there’s surely merit in sitting still. Holding assists that have proven talent that will surely deliver once more. Patience is a virtue that I’ve personally explored all season long, but when another pitifully mediocre Gameweek and accompanying red arrow is starring you in the face, the temptress of tinkering comes calling. Tonight she’s wearing a West Brom shirt and it all looks rather fetching.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The Crowded Press room at the Etihad stadium, already squeamish from the smell of fresh paint on the walls, are now lying flat on the ground as a result of the room being filled with the smoke of Roberto Newman-cini's pre-match press conference, complete with Liam Gallagher singing the entrance. Many of the members of the press tried to open the doors, only to find they had been sealed.

Special Guest Janitor Gareth Barry would come to the rescue, using a snowblower to air out the room. When asked if which blew more, him or the machine, Gareth Barry went to Fabio Capello's house to cry. the former England Manager shrugged...because he is a cabbage, and that is what a cabbage does. It shrugs and selects Gareth Barry for national teams.

Back in the press room, the journalists were just getting used to fresh air again, when Mario Balotelli began setting up for the post-match interview. This time, Mario sang his karaoke version of Europe's 'The final Countdown' while setting off fireworks from INSIDE of his chicken-hat.

Money then began to fall from the ceiling, signalling the arrival of Roberto Mancini. The music switched to this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49-tn-A6bw0

Roberto adjust his 19 million pound suit, and instructs Kolo Toure to get down on all fours in order to serve as his human chair. He moves the microphone into position, clears his throat, and speaks.

    "Here Comes Zee Moneez."

He smiles at his own joke, looking more like Willy Wonka by the second.

"Good eevenings to allz of youz. Manchezter Citeez ees extremeleez happeez wiz ze events of today. Stephen Kelly, who I haz always believed in zo stroonglee, iz certains to come off ze bench to boost our score from formidablez to decentz. He reprezents key differentialz to Napoli, and will, in my own honezt opeenyon, proove the deciding factor.

Ve vere very excited to zee ze zame captain choize as our own. I stand by my teem selection, even though Demba pah played lyke, how you say....a pot noodle. Even I waz not shoor I would plays Aguero today. He only scored as a rezult of Paul Robinson being a numpty.

Paul Robinson: you are a numpty. A lumpy Numpty.

Zees well also mark ze last time I listen to my troosted adviser, AVB for captains choizes. He came through once when I needed advizes long ago, but toze dayz are gone. Elninorules, welcome to ze cabbage leest!

Sydney has the beaches but for culture, character and functionality it's Melbourne for me. In saying that, I live in Brisbane! For work purposes only. For play it's South America. Although I'm off to Tokyo next week! Any dead zoners been there?

I've lived in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Melbourne has a nicer feel about it with its wider CBD streets and slower pace. However, it feels like a bit of a small city compared to the hustle of Sydney. When you go to Melbourne and someone tells you that it's a city of 4million people, you will look around and wonder where all the people and the cars are.

Sydney has a more global, big city feel about it. To me, if Sydney=Toronto (except far cleaner and more beautiful) where Melbourne=Montreal with its European feel.

Feel a bit miffed that I got put off putting Lampard into my team this week, went for Mata in the end which was fine but if I'd put Lamps in I would have captained him and got something like 28 points. I suppose it was always going to be a gamble but you just can't write him off.

He has 34 points with BAE and Vorm to play
I have 30 points with J Evans to play (plus Moses from bench and possibly Simpson assist).

Both captained Aguero and both have Bale and RVP to play too.

I'm really annoyed by Ba. Im in exactly the same boat as you and the only saving grace is I have made a tidy profit as I bought him for 7.3. I have a terrible feeling that Cisse could well outshine him and I also get the feeling Newcastle could be on the slide.

Newcy have overperformed , they due a correction ,dont think they good enough to have the luxury of both Ba and Cisse in the same side , need play only one upfront as their midfield too light.
Avoided Ba thus far , and have no intention of buying high

On the previous pages disparate dan posted a link in which katie was saying goodbye, a bit of detective work later I found this, a very well written article by Jamsiep and also incredibly creepy, seeing that it applies perfectly to me and many of us here. http://youngsportswriters.wordpress.com/2011/02/19/the-life-of-a-fantasy-football-obsessive/

I remember that article when it came out . It is impressive, perfectly capturing just how obsessive this game can be. I became aware how obsessed I'd become in my first year when I noticed my mood each weekend was significantly effected by my game week score. I considered quitting at the time. I think something clicked tho where I realised while addictive it is fun . Discovering this site helped as well , as it showed the humour behind it all. The surgeon delaying surgery to alter his team, the wookie, the crazy rbj... Great stuff.

The first football game I went to had me hooked, not because of the football, because of the humour, the toilet rolls raining down on the pitch, the songs. It was Brighton v tranmere. We lost but I laughed . Katie had often been very serious on these pages. It does surprise me that he / she has quit.

And I agree, while addictive, it is fun, it is in fact immensely fun, probably that's the reason it's so addictive, but does it warrant completely taking over our lives? I wish I had struck/strike the perfect balance like you have between, fun, addiction and leading a normal life 🙂

That was a well written article and a very relevant one. A lot more relevant than any FFS articles anyway. It's one that puts us FFS's in the hot seat. Not RVP, Rooney or Ba, but us, we who have a life outside of football.

That has to be hard. For me I would struggle to find motivation. At least after a bad FF week for me I can take satisfaction in that I'm still near or at the top of my family/friends minileagues.

I'm not sure why you only interact with your family but I hope you can find a life amongst your community and gain more friends.

+1 it makes the world of difference. It allows you to take a step back and act like a casual as most of the time you would be winning those mini-leagues. I think my aim for this season is not so much to get a good rank anymore, but simply to beat my mates in the mini-leagues who are 'serious casuals'. Its all good competitive fun, but not too serious.

Not sure if this helps anyone but I have actually done better when I didn't take the game too seriously. I finished top 50k in my first 3 seasons as a casual. I discovered FFS this year and I'm having my worst season yet, I have also put in a lot more time and effort all for naught it seems.
