This morning has seen a couple of fixtures, which were previously affected by FA Cup and Carling Cup schedules, afforded new dates that will have significant bearing on Fantasy managers’ thinking.

Following on from last night’s rescheduling of the Villa v Bolton match to Gameweek 29, Everton have this morning confirmed their Merseyside derby with Liverpool has been switched to Tuesday March 13.

The game was originally set to take place in Gameweek 26 but was cancelled due to Liverpool’s Carling Cup Final with Cardiff- it will now be played in Gameweek 28, affording both Merseyside clubs the opportunity of a double Gameweek.

Liverpool now have (sun, EVE) on the agenda, while David Moyes’ side face (TOT, liv). Tricky fixtures for both sides, no doubt, but Fantasy managers will be keen to get in on the action. With Sergio Aguero facing a trip to Swansea, his dire away form may see the Argentine shipped out for Luis Suarez as frontlines are re-adjusted on the back of this morning’s announcement. Liverpool’s fixtures look particularly enticing from Gameweek 30 onwards, and many Fantasy managers may bring forward their plans a little earlier than anticipated now.

The likes of Leighton Baines will no doubt find himself the subject of investment, too, with the Toffees current five-match unbeaten run indicative of an upturn in performance which has seen them defeat both City and Chelsea, while recording clean sheets in both games. It’s also worth noting that Steven Pienaar will be unavailable for the Spurs game, due to the conditions of his loan deal, leaving the South African with just the trip to Anfield as his only option.

The downside is that, at present, both sides still have a blank Gameweek 29; Liverpool’s trip to QPR and Everton’s home clash with Arsenal have yet to be granted a new date. The fixture list is quickly being settled, though. Blackburn have also announced this morning that their home game with Sunderland has been set for Tuesday March 20, which falls into Gameweek 29.

At present, then, there are now only three games yet to be afforded a new date for that particular gameweek, though this could increase to four if Chelsea win their FA Cup replay with Birmingham. It’s clear, however, that our previous worries over Gameweek 29 are now being resolved, allowing Fantasy managers the chance to plan in advance once again.

      My prediction:

      Rooney 90 minutes, 3 shots, 2 shots on target, 1 goal.

      Suarez 90-120 minutes, 10 shots, 3 on target, 1 goals, 0 bonus.

      Suarez edges is on appearance points.

    For those in their late 20s or older, do you remember the 'play by mail' games in the 90s?

    You'd post your team off on paper and then a few days later, you'd get the results with all the Match Stats and scorers etc. You could make transfers and I'd sometimes be on the landline to someone who wants to buy or sell me their player.

    I remember it cost about £3 per week is that's what most my paper-round money went on!

    Those were the days! I think one was called PBM Football Manager or something like that.

      I used to play The Telegraph (I think it was) a good 10 or so years ago. Set your team up, mail it off then check the player points every Wednesday in the paper. Had to send, by mail, any transfers you wanted too. It used to take ages to set a team up, having to calculate all the prices yourself. Good fun though.

      Shearer AND Sutton up front, and Efan Ekoku as the budget mid of choice.

            Scottish players too? Interesting twist. Never played the Daily Mail one but they must have had to price the SPL players astronomically given the one-sidedness of a lot of the games.

            Think my best fantasy season was around 2001/02 when I won a fiercely contested works Sun Dream Team league - my forward line of Shearer, Henry & Van Nistelrooy made mincemeat of the opposition post-Christmas.

              I think you were only allowed two players from the SPL or something, there was a restriction. Cant really remember though.

      For me it was one called 'Dream Team'. Played it the last year of school in 1991/92 season. At that time the daily's didn't do a fantasy football competition, but I think they got going the following year.

      Essentially you started with $100 and you and a dozen mates had an auction - a straight forward 11 players each (no-one had the same player - a feature that I liked). 1pt per goal scored and minus 1pt for each goal your keeper let in. All very basic, but goalscoring defenders were like gold dust and we used all four english divisions. For a transfer, providing you had some funds left you bid $1 for a new player and it went from there.

      At that time, I don't remember people mentioning assists.

        We organised something similar in the mid-90s in school but don't think it had any kind of affiliation as far as I know - we used the top two divisions and you bidded for a Goalkeeper, a Team Defence and 6 Midfielders/Forwards. You then won or lost matches each week based upon how many goals you scored versus how many your combined GK and Defence let in. You could buy/trade players but obviously other players could outbid you.

        Seem to remember there was some rumour about Papin coming to a Premiership club and one of my mates bought him on the cheap hoping to steal a march on everyone else!

    I don't think its a great idea getting Liverpool players in if they have a blank following week which inhibits you from fielding 11 players, it much better to go with United players who have better games and allow you to field 11 or close to the following week! However if Pool have qpr GW29 I will use GW28 as a non wildcard wildcard (8 point hit). Bale RVP Silva Komps etc are likely to be benched GW29 so Liv players add to this problem! Could really do with more games being on in GW29!

    Working on my first choice defensive quartet for the run in. City, United, Pool and Spurs have great fixtures and I reckon the chance of plenty of clean sheets which are proving difficult to come by with majority of the other teams.

    Am working towards having one from each, Kompany and Evans along with:

    a. G.Johnson & Friedel
    b. Assou-Ekotto & Reina

    Which combination would you prefer, taking into account attacking potential/save points etc, or do you think there's probably not a great deal of difference either way?

    Thanks!

        Thanks all. Yeah, I am considering Skrtel also but Johnson has been so close to scoring/assisting several times in recent weeks and he always seems to look a threat going forwards, just feel like it's going to convert into big points sometime soon. Skrtel has been pretty useful from set pieces this year though and the extra cash could be handy.

          I prefer G Johnson, he has more points per game eventhough Skrtel has 2 goals, 1 assist to Johnson's 1 assist. If/When Johnson starts to get more attacking returns, he'll edge it with a big margin. Even if he doesn't start scoring goals, he'll still get more points per game than Skrtel. Worth the 0.6M£

    Friedel Mignolet
    Lescott Kompany Evans Caulker Simpson
    Bale Silva Ox Dyer McClean
    RVP Ba Graham

    Really need a lot of help here. Really really need it. Have 4.2 in the bank and chasing an opponent who is 86 points ahead.

    His Team
    Hart Moriera
    Smalling Lescott Simpson BAE Oshea
    Dempsey Bale Silva McClean Valencia
    Ade Ba Welbeck

    I really need to get Rooney on Board for sure for GW 28. But the prospect of the Rooney Suarez RVP frontline is looking really Tempting.
    That can be done with a 4pt hit
    Ba Graham Silva > Rooney Suarez (6.2 Midfielder)

    Thoughts? Ideas? Would really appreciate some help!
    Thanks!

              Wait for more fixture news as you will want to field 11 for GW29! Reina may be a better move than a Liv defender as you can play Migs GW29! At the moment you can only field 8!

          Yeah you're right. My main reason is that if you're going to have potential rotation between Young, Nani and Valencia, then you might as well go with the cheap option. He is capable of just as much points as the other 2. Maybe more.

          But as you say though, may need monitoring first.

    I thought of ditching all my City, Spurs players @Week 29 for 3 United players, but then my head spins and I realize that City and Spurs along with Arsenal will have a DgkWk in mid April(2/3 GameWeeks) later, and there is no way I will be able to get them back w/o a HIT, since there prices have sky-rocketed from what I bought....

    For those debating Rooney or Suarez for GW28 this may help:

    Rooney 6.55 PPG
    Suarez 3.95 PPG

    While Rooney's PPG is not double that of Suarez it is vastly superior. When you take into account fixture difficulty and the fact that getting Suarez may lead to a 4 point hit in GW29 to get Rooney I think it is best to just get the Roonatic in GW28.

    Week 28:
    2FT
    Richards->Enrique
    Aguero->Rooney

    Week 29:
    (4 point hit)
    Bale->Nani
    Mata->Morrison
    gives me only 10 players if City-Chelsea gets cancelled , but a truck load of cash once the DgkWks for the Big Boys come calling...

    I have Vorm (4.6) and Stockdale (4.3) at the mo, so nil points this GW.

    1 free transfer this week so any recommendations – I have 1.2M in the bank. Also, I have 3 Newcastle players so Krul is not an option.
