There are several Premier League managers anxiously checking on their players following last night’s international at Wembley. Chris Smalling, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard all suffered injuries which saw them withdrawn from action as England slipped to last gasp 3-2 defeat to Holland.

Smalling’s situation looks the most worrying. The United defender was stretchered from the field on 64 minutes following a clash of heads with Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar and caretaker England boss Stuart Pearce confirmed that Smalling had been taken to hospital following the incident…

Chris Smalling has a really bad gash on his head and went to hospital…I spoke with him and he was conscious. Our thoughts are with him and I am hoping that he will be fine.

He will clearly be a doubt for United’s trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday. Smalling was on the bench at Norwich last time out, though, suggesting he was by no means a certainty to start at the Lane this weekend.

According to Pearce, Daniel Sturridge suffered a toe injury which saw him forced off just before the end. There are few details as yet on this injury, although the Telegraph have raised the alarm somewhat by suggesting that there are fears that Sturridge may have sustained a fracture. Chelsea visit the Hawthorns on Saturday and Sturridge will be an obvious concern for Andre Villas-Boas ahead of what is likely to be a stern test given the form of Roy Hodgson’s side.

Gerrard was also a concern- a tight hamstring saw him withdrawn after 33 minutes as a precaution, with Pearce’s post-match comments certainly more encouraging:

Steven was just feeling a little bit tight so we took him off as a precautionary (measure) on the grounds we were only going to play him for 45 minutes anyway.

Kenny Dalglish confirmed this morning that his skipper has yet to be assessed, however, and was typically blunt in his appraisal of the situation:

If I don’t know what it is, I can’t tell you whether there is every chance or no chance (of Gerrard facing Arsenal), so rather than speculate it’s best for us to just wait and see what the medical people have to say once they’ve seen him.

The Liverpool boss revealed he expects Daniel Agger to be sidelined for “maybe a few weeks” after confirming the Dane fractured a rib in Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with Cardiff.

Papiss Demba Cisse is on course to recover from a groin problem ahead of Sunday’s home clash with Sunderland. The Newcastle forward – who has scored in both his home games so far- was subbed off last weekend against Wolves with the injury and hasn’t trained since but Newcastle assistant boss John Carver is optimistic over the forward’s chances of featuring against the Black Cats.

He should be okay. He had a problem with his groin, he hasn’t trained yet. He didn’t train on Wednesday and I think the fortunate thing is that we have the extra day with the game being on Sunday. But fingers crossed he should be OK.

Martin O’Neill, on the other hand, is fretting over the fitness of Phil Bardsley for the trip to the Sports Direct Arena. The full-back picked up a calf injury in last weeks 4-0 defeat at West Brom and pulled out of international duties with Scotland this week. Bardsley is considered a major doubt, meaning Craig Gardner could drop into right-back or, alternatively, John O’Shea may shift from the heart of the back-four, with fit-again Matt Kilgallon coming in alongside Michael Turner.

In midfield, O’Neill is expected to welcome back David Vaughan. The former Blackpool man turned out for Wales in last night’s loss to Costa Rica and has now recovered from a foot injury that has forced him out of Sunderland’s last four league games. Vaughan had previously been an integral part of O’Neill’s side, having started the first eight games of the Irishman’s tenure, grabbing a couple of goals in the process.

Brede Hangeland is a doubt for Fulham this weekend after missing Norway’s 3-0 win over Northern Ireland last night. The centre-half has played every minute of the season so far for Martin Jol’s men and with (WOL, SWA, NOR) to come in the next five gameweeks, his Fantasy owners will be anxiously awaiting Jol’s press conference tomorrow.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hey All,

Thought id tap into some ff wisdom on here:

    Krul / Mignolet
    Kompany / Evans / Senderos / BAE / Simpson
    Silva / Bale / Mcclean / Dempsey / Valencia
    RVP / Ba / Aguero

    £0.3 and no free transfers

    (a) Thinking of doing Aguero to Suarez and Senderos to Skrtle, good shout? Or should I get Roo.
    (b) what are the chances of Senderos getting a game this week?

Was planning on using 2 FTs this week/ 1 FT next to sort out the DGW team and GK posiiton

Might have to WC now - had preferred to hang onto it in case Chelsea/Man City get a DGW later

It wouldn't be, we've been looking solid at the back with a leader (Heitinga) in there. It still mystifies me as to why David Moyes persists with Jagielka and Distin ahead of Heitinga when they're all fit, but back to your point.

If this is for the DGW, no, playing (liv, TOT) in one week is barely any more likely to be profitable than a single so-so fixture.

However, I will be considering Howard or Heitinga depending on how our defence looks later in the season ahead of some better fixtures.

Thanks mate. Yeah I think Heitinga has improved alot since he joined the club. Distin really struggles to concentrate for 90 mins. Yeah just because it's a DGW it shouldn't be the reason to pick a player and the fixtures need to be favourable. When their fixtures pick up I will defo be looking at an Everton defender.

    .................Hart............

    Richards..Smalling..Lescott..Cole (and the rest)

    Jones/Parker/Carrick/Wilsire/Barry/Britton - ( chose 2) DMF

    .........Milner/Wilshire/???? (chose 1) - CMF

    ..........Walcott/Rooney/Young/AJ. (choose 2) - AMF / inside forwards

    ...............Sturridge.........(Or Wellbeck, Holt etc)

AMF in support of striker and other 1 other inside forward to break - the other goes wider.

Main striker to work the line horizontally ie: tail off left. Space filled by 1 of 2 in behind.

Lots of thrust needed from FB - DMF pivot to cover space. CMF to link with all positions.

Using 2 inside forwards 433. Relies on FB's lungs and 1 of the front 3 peeling wide.

That would probably help. Thinking of ENG 2012 team shape and personell.

Formation nominally an Xmas tree 4-3-3.

Zonal Marking would probably call it a 4-2-1-2-1 or something. The point is, the 3 forwards start off narrow but 1 pull wide and two into the middle.

CMF maintains discipline by mostly feeding the forward 4. Full backs play as de facto wingbacks where possible.

      ..................Hart
      Jones Richards Lescott Cole
      ..........Parker Carrick
      ...Sturridge Gerrard Young
      ...............Welbeck

Rooney in for Gerrard when he's back. I thought Jones impressed at right back, Cahill and Baines also played well but i think Cole and Lescott are more experienced. Sturridge and Walcott can be rotated.

I think jones has to play. With that formation, I'm not sure about Surridge on the right, unless he pushes up with parjer covering. But that's more like a 4132. Sounds exciting!

I'm not really a fan of a lone striker but Welbeck seemed to relish the role, he was fantastic against a very strong experienced Dutch side playing with Bommel and De Jong protecting the back four! We were lucky to score any against that side really, vastly superior to us.

    Vorm (Lindegaard)
    Richards. Simpson. Kelly. (Evans. Caulker)
    Mata. Dempsey. Silva. Bale. (McClean)
    Ba. Aguero (c). RVP.

Ive got 1 FT guys and currently Bale, Kelly, Vorm and Lindegaard are all doubts.
What dyu think I should do?

    a) Do Lindegaard > AlHabsi or Begovic
    b) Do Bale out for someone
    c) Kelly > Shotton.

so i wasn't really planning on doing anything for the liverpool double gw, but the more i think about it, the more i think i should do something. my team currently is:

    krul | vorm
    kompany | cahill | evans | kelly | caulker
    bale | silva | dempsey | valencia | mcclean
    rvp | aguero | ba

my initial thoughts were just to do aguero and cahill to rooney and santon, but now i'm thinking of taking a punt on aguero and cahill for suarez and johnson/skrtel. then for gw 29, switching them for rooney and santon. all this would only be for a -4 hit. what do you guys think?

    any input is appreciated xoxo

    Hi all,

Would appreciate some views on my team for this GW:

    Vorm
    R.Taylor | Richards | Evans
Silva (VC) | Sess | Siggy | Bale
    Aguero (C) | Ba | RVP

    Krul | Caulker | McClean | Kilgallon

Vorm may not play but if he does I think he's more likely to get a CS ahead of Krul, if he doesn't play Krul will come in.

Pretty sure I want to play Caulker ahead of one of the 3 in my team atm but can't decide who.

Is it worth a 4 point hit to get G.Cahill in? Was going to leave it to next week but with my defense not looking like it will get a CS this week should I do Kilgallon > Cahill this week?

Evans if anyone. Raylor and Richards have good attacking potential if they play. It all looks ok for this week though. It's not worth a hit for any chelsea player, very unreliable at the moment, keep the 4pts.

Very nice, good food, weather, very picturesque etc. She must be a looker.

Think my link didn't work a minute ago.
Is this the best finish ever? A great talent who barring that horrific injury may have developed into one of the best. Crying shame

😀 Neither did this one, but I'm guessing you're talking about Eduardo.

Amazing finish. What a player he could have been. Was looking lethal in front of goal before that horror injury. Is he getting a game for Shakhtar?

Counted, I added my Live ID to one of your posts....let the games begin 😀 I'm on at odd hours, but I have pending duels with you and Duffman.
