Pavel Pogrebnyak and Clint Dempsey run riot against Wolves as Terry Connor is served up a rude awakening at the Cottage. Shola Ameobi saves the day for Newcastle in a bad-tempered Tyne-Wear derby, while a return to form by Ashley Young helps United to the three points at under-strength Spurs:

Pavel Pogrebnyak
His impressive scoring streak continues for Fulham, with Wolves proving the Russian’s latest victim. Yesterday’s hat-trick means Pogrebnyak has scored in each of his three games since moving from Stuttgart in the January window and brings his tally to 5 in three games for the Cottagers. Considering Bobby Zamora scored 5 in fifteen games before his transfer to QPR, Pogrebnyak’s impact has clearly given Martin Jol’s side an added dimension up front. The maximum bonus has been duly delivered, taking the Russian’s Fantasy haul to 33 points in just three games and, with Villa, Swansea, Norwich and Bolton to come in the next five, the bandwagon is on its way; he’s already jumped 0.2 in price this weekend, as the transfers-in continue to snowball.

Clint Dempsey
Not to be outdone, Dempsey ended a three-game goalless streak by bagging a couple in the 5-0 win. The US international returned his fifth double-figure points haul of the season and, with 149 points, is second top scoring midfielder behind Gareth Bale, having overtaken David Silva on the back of yesterday’s performance. His away form is still something of a worry- Dempsey has returned 9 goals and 5 assists at the Cottage compared to 3 goals on the road but his home returns alone make him almost impossible to overlook, particularly with a strong upcoming schedule on the horizon.

Shola Ameobi
Newcastle’s forgotten forward came to the rescue just as defeat seems a certainty against bitter rivals Sunderland. While hopes were high of goal returns for Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, the pair failed to produce, with the former ending the game on a score of -1 after a booking and missed penalty- doubly frustrating for those who selected him as vice-captain behind the absent Sergio Aguero this weekend. Ameobi’s knack of scoring against the Black Cats earned Alan Pardew’s side a vital point but in spite of his headline-grabbing goal, a role as impact sub looks his best way of harvesting points.

Ryan Taylor
His starting role on the right side of midfield continued yesterday, though a half-time reshuffle by Alan Pardew won’t have gone unnoticed by the out-of-position prospects’ Fantasy owners. With Newcastle struggling to get a hold of the game, Davide Santon was subbed off, as Taylor was shifted to his early-season role of left-back. On came Hatem Ben Arfa for an impressive second-half cameo as the home side upped the pressure- Pardew has food for thought, then, ahead of next week’s trip to Arsenal, with question marks perhaps once again raised against Taylor’s likely starting position.

Stephane Sessegnon
The Black Cats midfielder received a straight red card for violent conduct after catching Cheik Tiote with an arm and will now serve a three-match ban. With Sunderland still involved in the FA Cup, Sessegnon will miss the next two league games, against Liverpool and Blackburn, before returning in Gameweek 29 for the home clash with QPR. His absence poses his 24% Fantasy owners plenty questions, with many surely set to off-load Sessegnon, affording a break-up of the identikit midfields we’ve seen over the last few gameweeks.

Nicklas Bendtner
Back in the Black Cats starting XI for the first time since Gameweek 21, the big Dane opened the scoring at Newcastle with a coolly despatched spot-kick. Bendtner’s game time has been blighted by injury since Martin O’Neill’s arrival, with groin, ankle and facial injuries affording him just six starts under the new manager. He’s returned 2 goals and 2 assists in those six starts, though; a decent, if hardly prolific, haul. With Sessegnon now sidelined and Fraizer Campbell continuing to be eased back into action, Bendtner looks nailed-on to lead the line in the short-term; with yesterday’s game also confirming he’s number one for penalty duties, he’ set to be a crucial figure for Sunderland over the next couple of gameweeks, at least.

Wayne Rooney
Forced out last week due to a throat infection, the forward returned with the opener to continue his recent goalscoring form. Rooney has now grabbed 5 goals in his last three games for United and seems to be stepping up in performance as the season enters the final third. With (WBA, wol, FUL, bla, QPR) up next, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are set for heavy Fantasy investment, as managers juggle budgets in order to rid themselves of the likes of Sergio Aguero for the in-form United forward.

Ashley Young
With Ryan Giggs benched for the trip to Spurs, Young was given the chance on United’s left at the Lane. He played a part in all of the visitors’ goals, bagging a brace and assist in the 3-1 win and served a reminder of his potential ahead of his side’s superb upturn in fixtures. Young has largely been a huge Fantasy disappointment this term; quick out the blocks in the first five gameweeks, he’s been virtually anonymous since; indeed, yesterday was just the second time he has found the net all season. With Sir Alex Ferguson admitting he expects Antonio Valencia to be back in time for United’s Europa League away trip to Ahletic Bilbao on March 15, Young could be set for the role of bench-warmer once again, with his game time likely to diminish once the reliable Ecuadorian is available.

49 goals in 48 games in one season for Ajax, all 4 in a 4-0 win for Uruguay - he can finish, and his stats from the tail end of last season for liverpool aren't bad either.

Shot conversion this season has been awful, mainly because he tries to dance around the defence and keeper instead of just shooting from some point in the box.

Just from watching liverpool games it frustrates me over and over how he has so many opportunities and doesn't get more goals when each time it looks like he's unlucky to miss. How does he do it consistently, i don't know, but i'm hoping he'll pull something off for the DGW

I really don't think the Young bandwagon is worth hopping on at all. Valencia will be back soon. Other than that though, there isn't much wrong with that team. I would be swapping Adebayor with Pogrebnyak personally.

    Straw Poll.

Assuming everyone goes Roo + Evans for 2 United players, who would you go with as your 3rd United player?

    A. Nani
    B. Young
    C. Val

    E. DDG

Hoping that DDG holds on to his place for the next couple weeks, if I find myself with no other necessary transfers I'll bring him in. Otherwise I'm waiting for Valencia to come back and hold down a place. Failing that, I'll be getting Nani in.

      1. DDG
      2. Valencia
      3. Nani

That's more order of preference at the moment. If I had the cash, Evra looks worth it atm.

      It depends...

If you are unable to field 11 players (a possibility given this GW) or you are confident that the players you draft in will outscore your previous players + 8 points (another possibility given the DGW) then it would be a reasonable move.

Not if you were one of the lucky ones who made good gains this weekend on the points.

I've done it as a means to maintain my minileague lead and cement my position in the top 10K. Want to try and hit the 5K mark by seasons end but not sure if I can sustain my average weekly score... I'm now heavily invested in Man Utd and locked on a 3 5 2 formation till seasons end.

Not entirely sure about Surman myself anymore but at least he is getting consistent minutes. Dude....I can't believe you did that, so unlucky!

But saying that....you need RVP man for the rest of the season! Otherwise the only thing to do now is get Suarez in stick the captaincy on him and hope he does something, goes up in value and sell at a profit.

I know I remember saying I was gonna ask you about players to bring in that might rise 2-3 times during WC week and totally switched off.

Got up to 9,311 overall this week so that has softened the blow a bit but still.

Like you say RVP man is lethal. He has to be in my team. It's just looks f*cking ridiculous buying him back at £13.3. Aaaahhhhhhh

You have to do it. Do it now.

Look at these too - you may need them:
          Song
          Anderson
          Cabaye
          Don't forget McAuley.
          Cahill/Riise main pairing.

Na I started looking at FISO for the first time seeing what players I should bring in to make a measly bit of profit and hit confirm on RVP to Suarez and lost all that lovely profit I built up on RVP. Got him in at 11.9.

    Now ; which of these propsed TFs will propel me into the top 10k ? ;

    (A) Richards to Skrtel and Aguero to Rooney (2 FTs)

    (B) Sess to Myaichi, Ba to Suarez and Aguero to Rooney (4 point hit)

    Hi all,

Have 2 FTs + 5.6m in the bank as:
    a. I planned to do Zamora -> Rooney
    b. but could do BAE -> Skrtel + Ba -> Rooney and have enough cash to do Lindy -> Schwarzer GW29

Don't see any other obvious move with:
    Vorm, Lindegaard
    Kompany Evans BAE Naylor Simpson
    Bale McLean Dempsey Silva Moses
    RVP Ba Zamora

So where are the poor fixtures for City in these lot then:

swa, CHE, sto, SUN, ars, WBA, nor, wol

I can see at least 4 clean sheets in that lot, i know in terms of attackers its a bit of a minefield but this is the best team in the country, seems crazy going with 0 coverage.

Seriously? Like i said on the last page, Swansea will try and have a go at City and will probably get torn apart. U think a mangerless Chelsea will be able to stop them? Stoke can be tough at the Brittania but they are hugely inconsistant, Sunderland got bummer by WBA and the O'Neil factor seems to be wearing off, you'd have to fancy a decent City win. Arsenal again could be tough but you'd fancy them scoring at least a couple and probably win that game.

I decided on Johnson rather than YYT. He's a lot more attacking, and cheaper.

I am tempted by this, a lot depends on the Europa Cup line up, unfortunately, with Ba dropping and Suarez rising tonight, i can't wait until then.

Yeah I've just taken a massive 8 point hit and Johnson was part of the plan. He's in for Silva to allow me to get Rooney.

I don't think he is at all. He was last season at 5.5, not now at 8-8.5 or whatever he is.

Whay does everyone think to these transfers for the next GW:-

    Kompany > Enrique
    Dyer > McClean
    Aguero > Rooney

This is for a 4pt hit, considering Dyer is suspended for 3 games now.

Is Rooney the next big thing???

I almost spewed out my coffee as I sat in on a raining afternoon listening to the Spurs/Man U game and hearing at one stage on 5-Live:

"...and Rooney is now playing right back!"???

He scored yesterday but was hardly involved... well at least there wasn't much show on MOTD2

Right, I think I'm going to take a 4 point hit this week.

    Dzeko > Suarez (no-brainer)
    Tawio > Jevans (no-brainer)
    Cahill > Skrtel (no-brainer?)

    agree or disagree?

Agree with all of those, Dzeko is so rarely played, JEvans at 4.5M is a no brainer and Cahill is playing in a poor Chelsea defence and might even get dropped when Terry returns.

Perfect for this coming week. Think Suarez might be a little frustrating. My Pref for Liverpool coverage is Skrtel alone for the moment. Stevie G once fit is very tempting - would be nice to get a good run to the end of the season.

Group J was ridiculously competitive this week. Three +70 scores and a +80 score.

Thank goodness for home advantage, I just scraped by Djerbil. What a week!

I've just brought him in, however I had Hart so it seemed simpler to me. If you're downgrading someone in order to upgrade your keeper it's a little different.
