Our Watchlist rankings have now been updated and are available in the right-menu bar. City take a tumble as Liverpool’s assets are boosted by their impending double fixtures, sending Roberto Mancini’s expensive heavyweights – fresh from warming the bench on Saturday – down the rankings. United’s obliging schedule also plays its part, as we assess the champions’ burgeoning potential at both ends of the pitch and switch our allegiance to the red side of Manchester…

Goalkeepers

The goalkeeper ratings are as volatile as ever. The movement sees Bolton’s Adam Bogdan emerge as an unlikely source of Fantasy interest, as the Trotters enter a prolonged phase of favourable opponents. At just 4.0, Bogdan is the cheapest active keeper available and he’s also in strong form, having made a string of saves in his last two games at Chelsea and Man City. Given his price, form and fixtures, Bogdan looks to be a strong asset to free up funds for investment elsewhere in our squads and can feasibly be fielded for the next five matches. If you don’t trust Bolton on their travels, Bogdan rotates nicely with Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer, who will entertain Norwich and Swansea in the Gameweeks that find the Trotters man on his travels.

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop, then United’s David De Gea offers an alternative route to a run of matches that will surely see continued defensive returns. The Spaniard has found some form of late and with Anders Lindegaard still sidelined, he looks clear to start through till Easter. Jonny Evans is still the preferred option in Sir Alex Ferguson’s rearguard, but De Gea offers a secure double-up option.

Defenders

Jonny Evans topples Vincent Kompany at the top of the defender ranks, despite Roberto Mancini’s side achieving a superb run of six clean sheets in eight league games. Fixtures now stiffen for Kompany and his defence and, feasibly, we could now see them struggle for Fantasy returns. There’s also the issue of the blank fixture, currently looming in Gameweek 29. Certainly we’d expect to see a dip in profit – enough to allow Evans to surpass Kompany as the preferred defensive option. United’s fixtures are amongst the strongest around over the next month, with the trip to City the only major test of Ferguson’s backline, right up to the end of the season.

It’s no surprise to see both Martin Skrtel and Jose Enrique fare well. The double fixture plays its part – a trip to Sunderland without the pace and trickery of Stephane Sessegnon offers immediate clean sheet potential, while even a highly fuelled Merseyside derby could see profit for Skrtel and co at Anfield. There’s little argument to carry both into the Gameweek – with strong fixtures to follow, there will be no hurry to rid yourself of Liverpool’s defensive assets, although we would all feel more comfortable had Dan Agger been fit to partner the Slovakian in the heart of the back four over this spell.

The Tottenham defence is another worthy option, with strong home fixtures against Stoke, Swansea and Norwich to come in the next five. Benoit Assou-Ekotto is the weapon of choice here – he enjoys a climb this week and could rank higher once Saturday’s trip to Everton is out of the way.

With United and Liverpool and possibly Spurs, looking the most likely options from now until the end of the season at the back, and with City’s defensive record a factor, it could be that we have only a couple of spots to fill in our defence. Budget options, with Swansea’s Steven Caulker, Stoke’s Andy Wilkinson, West Brom’s Gareth McAuley and Fulham’s Aaron Hughes, could well be the order of the day then. The latter benefits from Stephen Kelly’s thigh injury that finds him still a doubt for a recall when the Cottagers travel to Aston Villa this weekend. Hughes may well have cemented a starting role, having featured ahead of Philippe Senderos for the previous two, before shifting to right-back to cover for Kelly against Wolves. We need to monitor that situation, with the Fulham defence still amongst the best mid-to-low bracket punts on offer.

Midfielders

Gareth Bale’s position at the top of the midfielder rankings is certainly in question following absence through injury and illness but strong fixtures for Spurs maintain him for now. Sessegnon falls from grace from our top five, while Clint Dempsey only strengthens his hold following his brace against Wolves – fixtures remain favourable for the American.

It’s the United duo of Ashley Young and Nani that enjoy the biggest climbs to factor amongst our top selections. While Nani is still struggling for consistency following his recent spell on the sidelines, Young’s form is flourishing on his return to the United starting lineup. Antonio Valencia will muddy the waters once he’s fit and available but, there’s little doubt that Fantasy managers need to consider one of the trio of United midfield options, given the menu of fixtures in front of them.

David Silva, with tougher opponents on the horizon, suffers a dip then, as does Sunderland’s James McClean who may struggle for output in Sessegnon’s absence. That leaves the door open for climbers such as Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson with strong form and Bolton’s prospect Ryo Miyaichi, with outstanding fixtures. We’ve more on him to come.

Forwards

While Robin Van Persie won’t be shifted at the top of the rankings, Wayne Rooney is pushing him hard with a favourable run of opponents that will surely see him gain steady profit over the final months. His ascent and the double Gameweek for Luis Suarez has Sergio Aguero and Demba Ba falling down our list – both have tougher fixtures in front of them and are under serious threat from the outstanding value offered by Fulham’s Pavel Pogrebnyak. The Russian has attracted huge investment this week as Fantasy managers look to ride his form, although, even at 6.2, it’s hard to justify his inclusion ahead of our top three given their schedules, particularly if Dempsey is settled in your midfield.

Mario Balotelli could be the one to watch lower down the rankings – he’s scored in both league games for City since returning from suspension. Although Suarez has strong fixtures in front of him, should the Uruguayan fail to return of the double Gameweek, Balotelli would offer a straight swap and a route in to City’s attacking potential with change to spare for investment elsewhere. Right now, that looks an attractive option if we can be sure that the Italian will get regular minutes in Mancini’s lineup. Given Saturday’s experience, that’s not something we can take for granted.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Struggling to get Spurs defence cover. Was set on getting Friedel but the Schwarzer/Bogdan combo is so cheap and tempting, meaning I can have Young instead of Adam.

Worth it? Or is Spurs defence needed for thier run in?

Yeah Liverpool/United/City seem more essential than Spurs. At their price the Spurs defence seems like a bit of a luxury.

And yep it is, amazing album! Have you heard his most recent Kindred EP? Highly recommended if you were a fan of Untrue.

Miyaichi is a fun punt for a cheap 5th mid. He's good to watch and you get to look clever if he does well.

Agree on Bogdan, but he's so cheap and Schwarzer every week isn't so bad.

I'm contemplating a De Gea Evans Rooney combo, those fixtures are just too good to ignore but im worried about the Young / Nani / Valencia combo, I reckon I will want one of them at some point but while all 3 are fit I can only see rotation issues.

Glad you asked, I want to talk about this further too 🙂

It all comes down to De Gea being nailed on, if so then I think just captaining Rooney will be enough United attacking coverage. I'm debating trying to scrape the funds together for Jones but again, having an assured starting position is again a factor.

I would take Valencia over doubling on defence but I think with Young and Nani both contributing now I can see them all rotating till the end of the season.

If we wait to see who starts in net in the Europa on Thursday I think we may be able to assure our starting goalkeeper. Amos started for the reserves the other day, this might suggest that Lindegaard is fit again....

I thought about Jones also but as you say their might be rotation issues.

De Gea is obviously improving so do u not think Fergie will stick with him now? Lindegaard playing in the EL games maybe.

I hope Valencia comes back and gets a starting role, I'd have him back in instantly but I can only see rotation. The Rooney captaining thing is quite an interesting point actually.

De Gea is the 1st team keeper for the future, as he's playing so well I can see Fergie leaving him in till the end of the season. He also just got voted United fans player of the month for February. I think if Lindegaard starts against Bilbao, then we can assume DDG is nailed for the EL.

Schwarzer rotates fairly well with Mignolet. Not always home games but you at least always gets a decent game even if it might be away at times.

Won't get you as many points as De Gea though, that's why I like him.

No City at all is a slight risk but understandable.

Not really. Skrtel or Enrique is enough. Adam. Kuyt & Suarez are all expensive gambles. None of them are prolific and just because they play 2 games in 1 GW doesn't mean that is going to change.

Suarez is worth a punt but with plenty other strikers having good fixtures you can easily look elsewhere.

the Gerard problem is intersting - any info on his injury? will he play?
i have adam and suarez and skrtel for DGW (had to gamble since im chasing) - but gerard might be teh one deciding who i captain - if he does not play, Adam might be a good shout for C as he is on penalties/free kicks and more involved, if he does not, suarez might be better as Captain since he will get better supply.

At the moment I have nothing in the bank and:

              Krul Bogdan
              Skrtel Lescott Evans Simpson Kelly
              Silva Young Bale Dempsey McClean
              RVP Aguero Ba

If I sell Ba for Holt this week, for a hit, and start Holt, then the following week I can sell Aguero for Rooney when he plays Wolves, where I can see Rooney doing some serious damage

Cool. Thanks. Ill wait till we hear confirmation that City/Chelsea game is postponed to a future gameweek, and to see that Rooney gets through Europa match unscathed.

Of course, there are ways to fund this without selling Ba, Im just not sure I want to lose any of my current midfielders...

I could even do Aguero and Ba to Rooney and Holt for an 8 point hit... Too much?

Was that just a dead leg for Walcott last night? He doesn't play til Monday night so he has an extra couple of days to be fit.

Also is AOC still best avoided with Wenger being cautious with how often he plays him?

Agreed. Would solve the final midfield slot in my WC this week if Walcott is out for 2-3 matches. AOC could be good value in a temp role. I want Valencia in there, but first need to see who Fergie picks when all 3 Utd wingers are fit . AOC would be a good short term punt to delay making a decision the Valencia Vs Nani Vs Young conundrum.
Given that Arsenal are not playing until Monday, will Wenger still do a press conference (potentially updating on Walcott) on Friday?

Like the rest though, hopefully Kelly will be fit or we'll at least hear something soon. Very annoying that Fulham aren't keeping us FF obsessed players updated. Miyachi is a good gamble imo, should've scored last weekend really.

A slightly longer post. Does anyone remember back to the last three game weeks of the previous Season, when many of our most prized fantasy assets crumbled to dust?
That was because many mid table teams seemed to stop functioning, or teams at the top were secure in their ranking.
This year we are fortunate to have as many as four races, all the way to the wire, on the go!

    1) MUN or Citeh - Champions?
    2) Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle - Champions League?
    3) Liverpool, Fulham, Stoke, WBA, Norwich, Sunderland, Everton - Europe?
    4) Wigan, Bolton, Wolves, Blackburn, QPR - relegated?

That leaves Aston Villa and Swansea. Therefore, in my opinion, it might be wise not to have too many players from either ...

Theoretical question: If a site like this had 30,000 active members and all of them played the WC after week 1. Could they make 1.5m team value per day until the WC ended?

Plus, you'd need more people transferring to get double risers to make actual value for selling, and that would require some people to transfer on day one, others on day two. Would never happen beacuse everyone would want to be on the day 1 transfer so they get the value, not day 2.

I don't see anything in the rules saying it's not allowed. It's unlikely that many people could get together to do it.

        14 day break, 7 x 1.5 rises. 10.5 team value.

Alright, it's not strickly cheating, but it would create an unfair advantage for us in the mini-leagues (unless others are on here) so it'd be a pretty hollow victory as you should absolutely batter everyone else with a team value like that. Plus FPL would catch on, and just stop values going up I'd say.

    Silva; Sigurdsson; Dempsey; Bale; McClean
    Ba; Van Persie; Rooney
    1.4 in the bank.
Already done a couple of transfers this week, is it worth taking a 4 point hit to get in a Liverpool player, e.g. Cahill to Skrtel? I'm not convinced Liverpool will keep 2 cleanies, but it seems a risk not have any DGW players.

your team is pretty much the watchlist, so yer its nice. Keep Young if he doesnt continue to score well bring in YaYa or Valencia if he gets straight back into a starting position.

I really like the look of this team, I've got the same 3 forwards and a very similar defence. I reckon Young will keep his place in the team when Valencia is back.

You have a very narrow taste in movies, they're all basically violent gangster/mobster movies!

      All good films though.
