Vincent Kompany is expected to be out for a fortnight. Michael Dawson’s season is in doubt due to ankle ligament damage. Arsene Wenger sees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-term future in central midfield, United will make a “one or two” changes for Sunday’s game with West Brom, while Steve Kean may be missing a couple of first-team players for the crucial trip to Wolves.

Vincent Kompany is expected to be sidelined for around a fortnight after picking up a calf problem in City’s Europa League trip to Sporting Lisbon last night. The Belgian lasted just seven minutes in Portugal before signalling to the bench that his game was over- he will now miss this weekend’s trip to Swansea and is at risk of being unavailable for the home clash with Chelsea the following gameweek. Roberto Mancini spoke of the injury situation post-match:

We have to wait one or two days to know the exact extent of his injury, but it is a problem with his calf. I hope to have Kompany back in 10 days or two weeks, but we have other solutions.

The loss of his skipper is a bitter blow for Mancini; City’s resilience at the back has been a crucial part of their performances over the last few months, with six clean sheets in the last eight league games. Kompany missed a couple of those clean sheets through injury and suspension, though, and with the likes of Kolo Toure ready to step in alongside Joleon Lescott, Mancini still has strong options at the back. For some Fantasy managers, though, the temptation to transfer out Kompany is strong; with Liverpool’s upcoming double gameweek on the horizon and a strong schedule ahead for United, Spurs and Kenny Dalglish’s side, many are pondering a switch at the back, as City’s fixtures somewhat toughen in comparison.

Spurs have confirmed Michael Dawson sustained ankle ligament damage in Wednesday’s FA Cup win over Stevenage. The centre-half fell awkwardly after an aerial challenge in the 3-1 win and was stretchered off just a few minutes into the game; after undergoing scans, he is expected to be out for 10-12 weeks, with his season now all but over. Dawson’s season has been blighted with injury; indeed, he has started just six league games for the London outfit but his absence only nails-on Younes Kaboul in the heart of Harry Redknapp’s back-four. Priced at 5.5, the Frenchman could prove a cheaper alternative to the full-backs, for those eyeing up Tottenham defenders.

Arsene Wenger reckons Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-term future lies in central midfield. While the youngster performed superbly in the role against Milan in midweek, deputising for the injured Mikel Arteta in the 3-0 win, his manager played down Oxlade-Chamberlain’s chances of making an immediate switch from the wing, insisting he still has some way to go in his development before becoming an automatic pick through the middle:

I don’t think he is ready to play in this role personally but he will certainly develop into it in the future. He will play [there] again but I think he has to play where he is needed basically. The most important thing at the moment is that he develops well. He had a good game but he still has many things to add to his game. That is the purpose now for his work, especially the fitness, the physical intensity to add to his game.

Ahead of Monday’s match against Newcastle, Wenger also revealed Arteta and Aaron Ramsey should be back in the squad, Theo Walcott should be ok after suffering a hip knock against Milan, Kieran Gibbs has a chance of recovering from a groin problem, while the Arsenal boss “doesn’t know” if Yossi Benayoun will make it.

Sir Alex Ferguson will check on Chris Smalling’s fitness before naming his side for Sunday’s game with West Brom. The centre-half was forced off against Athletic Bilbao last night after his head wound re-opened and, with United now chasing a 3-2 deficit going into next week’s second leg against the Spanish outfit, Smalling’s availability may determine whether Rio Ferdinand starts against the Baggies. Ferguson admitted the latter’s experience will be crucial to the European game, going on to say:

I’ll make one or two changes. Scholes is available and so are Nani and Rio Ferdinand to get the freshness back in. Rio is such a great player and he has great experience. It depends on Chris Smalling. His stitches came open in the first half. We thought we’d patched them up at half time but they came open again. It’s a possibility. I will maybe gamble with a couple on Sunday for Thursday’s game.

Steve Kean has a couple of injury worries ahead of Blackburn’s crucial trip to Wolves this weekend. David Dunn – scorer of Rovers’ equaliser against Villa last week – is struggling to overcome a virus, while Bradley Orr has picked up a hamstring strain. Kean admitted the latter is “touch and go” for the Molineux trip, after undergoing scans on the problem.

Chelsea’s match with Man City has been rescheduled for Wednesday March 21, affording both clubs a fixture in Gameweek 29. The game was in doubt after the Blues knocked Birmingham out of the FA Cup on Tuesday, but the Premier League has moved quickly to allocate a new slot- we have now updated our fixture ticker as a result.

For those of you playing in the CL H2H league who would like a slight digression from the DGW and injury/suspension conundrums, here is the weekly Press Statement from CatMac in Moscow:
    +++++++++++++++
I looked around the room at the familiar faces of fellow journalists and sports reporters and immediately noticed that the number had dwindled considerably from last week, no doubt put off by the unenlightening press statement issued by CatMac on that occasion. Those of us left were hoping we might glean a little more information this week, especially if rumours of several team changes were to be believed.

CatMac entered the room flanked by her entourage of soldiers, with a sombre look on her face. She began to speak

“Comrades, you have no doubt noticed that as a result of our dismal performance last week against the average team of Lille, we are now currently in joint last place in the entire Champions League competition. This was down to 2 players not turning up for the game, 2 players injured and a couple of players not performing for the team.

This is unacceptable, so I have had to make some sweeping changes. Do not forget we are facing the group leaders this week, so we need to be fearless to overcome the might of Trabzanspor. I heard yesterday morning that they had also made 2 free changes, so I have gone 1 better and last night used my home advantage to bring in an additional new player I am hoping these new players will be our secret weapon and bring home the points for the team. .

We will be playing our usual 3-4-3 formation with 2 of our new players in the team and 1 on the bench. We are also praying we do not have the misfortune again of only being able to field10 players despite having a fit bench.

I have now selected my team for the weekend together with a new captain, but I have not yet even told the players this as I need them to be quaking in their boots until the last minute to see if they have made the grade. I have also told them in no uncertain terms that I do not wish to be sent to Siberia, which would undoubtedly be my fate, except for the intervention of my comrade ILF at Zenit St Petersburg who has kindly offered me a coaching position with his team.

We have no option this week but to win all 3 points to at least have a chance of playing in the Europa League if we do not succeed in this competition. I have no qualms in using any method at my disposal to achieve this aim.”

With that parting shot, CatMac swept out of the room with her entourage in tow.

Scholes, Pilkington or Drenthe in for McClean?

To finance it, would need to downgrade Skrtel to Carragher, and McCauley to Caulker, or Schwarzer to Krul

    Or just leave be?

Hmm, Simpson will probably get 1 pt. Caulker has an outside chance of a cleanie and is dangerous from set-pieces but will probably gets 2 pts.

I'd probably bring Skrtel in, realistically should get 4 minimum so only really a 2 point hit with the potential for more. Also Skrtel (or Enrique) is a good pick beyond this weekend as they have nice fixtures so if you going to bring in a Pool defender now is the time to do it.

    Hey Guys

    I really need help

Logged in to my FPL half hour ago just not able to take any decision

    This is my team

    Sorensen | Vorm

    Kelly | Santon | Rangel | Skrtel | BAE

    Barfa | Dyer | Dempsey | Bale | Mata

    Aguero | RVP | Ba

    0.6 in bank

    1st problem i don't have 3 fine defenders

Santon Away to Arsenal, Rangel home to City ( Plus Vorm will be my GK )

So only have BAE and Skrtel ( Kelly is injured )

    2nd Midfield problems

Arfa :S Dyer is suspended for 3 games 😐

Only left with Mata,Bale and Dempsey

Thank Lord i have 3 fit forwards

I m thinking of Doing Arfa to Hoolahan and Aguero to Rooney

and solve other problems coming GWs ?

Hoolahan doesn't start regularly, don't get him. Pilkington, Surman (if you desperately want a Norwich mid) Sigurdsson, Miyaichi (Bolton) are all decent choices.

On my WC, with a defence of Kompany, Enrique, Evans, Caulker, Simpson.

With Kompany out, atm I'd be looking at Enrique, Evans, Caulker this week. But I'm relatively happy with this and don't particularly want to shift Kompany given he'll probably back for next game; an obvious replacement would be Skrtel but I don't think Liverpool will keep clean sheets in either game. So I could go Richards, but frankly don't want the risk and would only get Kompany back in anyway; I don't want any 1 week punts, that worked out badly last WC.

So should I ditch Komps or keep him? Thanks!

Well because Jones is the 4th best English RB.
Parker should be in there too.
And I'm still not sure about taking Rio to a big tournament now - I rate him but he's so injury prone.

Oh Vinny what have you done to me!! What are people doing with him? I was planning doing Aguero > Rooney this week and also contemplating Sess > Drenthe for a hit.

So now I have a few options:

    A) Still do Aguero > Rooney but also do Kompany > Richards / Jones for a hit, leaving Sess on the bench, losing value, whilst playing Walters (che) and Surman (WIG).

    B) Keep Aguero - do Kompany > Richards / Jones and Sess > Drenthe with a view to getting Rooney next week.

    C) Keep Kompany in the hope that he only misses 1 game. This will leave me with Enrique, Simpson, NTaylor and Kelly at the back for this GW. Do Aguero > Rooney and Sess > Drenthe with a view to upgrading Walters next GW.

    D) Keep Aguero & Kompany and get rid of Sess, no hits required.

    Help please!!!
