Fantasy Football Scout are pleased to announce the sixth instalment of the open-to-all free-to-enter Paddy Power Cup competition. Your chance to join our previous winners – donnellyc, Jonty, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints and reigning champ sleepingmaster – in our hall of fame starts now. For full details, including the fantastic prizes on offer once more, read on…

What is the Paddy Power Cup?

The Paddy Power Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager with highest rank in the overall standings will progress.

How do I enter?

As with the Members Paddy Power Cup, entry for the competition is simple, just follow this link and fill out the form as required. A confirmation email will be sent shortly after you’ve submitted your details to acknowledge your entry has been received. Just like the FPL, multiple entries to the Cup are not permitted. Please ensure that you enter your FPL Team Id details correctly, any entries added incorrectly will not be entered into the qualifying round.

This cup is open to Members and Non-Members alike.

When does it start?

All entries received before the Gameweek 29 deadline will be entered into the qualifying round. We will then have 512 qualifiers for the first round – those 507 managers with the top scores in gameweek 29 (plus our five previous winners) will progress to the first round proper, which will be played in gameweek 30. Again, FPL standing will decide who progresses in the event of tied positions.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published around 24 hours after gameweek 29 has been completed and the draw for the first round will then follow.

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each gameweek deadline.

Are there prizes?

Sponsors Paddy Power are supplying the competition with some great prizes and we’re supplementing these with Amazon Vouchers. The prizes break down as follows:

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £20 Amazon Voucher

Although entry is open to all, entrants will need a Paddy Power account and be aged 18 and over to be eligible for some of the above prizes. Prizes are also subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

If you’ve yet to register a Paddy Power account, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10.

If you’re going to bet with Paddy Power, always gamble responsibly.

I did think that but if he hits form he's a keeper for the rest of the season. As I've needed transfers, getting rid and then back in would be 8 points.

So yeah, if you plan on keeping him all season, his value is irrelevant.

Really want Rooney in, but don't really want to lose any of my strikers, I have

RVP (eve), Suarez (qpr), Ba (NOR)

To get Rooney in this week for Ba or Suarez would take a hit, and selling Silva, but Rooney vs Wolves seems an explosive matchup, should I take a hit to get him in?

If Suarez had done nothing last night I would've knee jerked him out, but as it is I'm tempted to keep him

4 point hit isn’t ideal but look at Gerrard last night. 44 points for a hat-trick. Point hit would have meant nothing if you made that transfer. The way Wolves are playing Rooney(c) can potentially do the same at the weekend.

Im in the same boat as Archie. Have RVP/Suarez/Ba and really want Rooney in vs Wolves as they are indeed the worst defensive side in the Premiership. But i`ll have to take a hit to do so, and do Silva-> cheap mid, which really doesnt bother me that much since Silva and Citeh have been lagging for a while now, and main rival doesnt have Rooney so possible differential for me if he doesnt get rooney in himself. Hate taking point hits but i feel strongly that its the right thing to do, only thing is can Rooney get rested? If he plays 90 min against Bilbao to try to get United through, he might be seen as dispensable as Utd easily should beat Wolves even without him?

I feel like united could beat wolves easily without Rooney, but that he'll probably play anyway.

And if he plays it seems dangerous to go without him.

Norwich's defence had improved recently, so I can see Rooney scoring 4 points more than Ba tbh..

Silva to Morrison/Miyachi/Sigs doesn't seem like a bad transfer as Silva isn't in the same form as early-season.

My 4 point hit this week is the first one to actually pay off:

Taiwo, Richards, Aguero = 4 points
      Evans, Skrtel, Suarez = 25 points (-4)

So the right hit can pay off, you just have to watch out for players like Ba who you're taking a hit to get rid of but could score well

I did work it out properly... and of course I didn't forget Rooney..

IMO when working out the success of any hit, you have to take into account the points scored from someone on the bench, who could have replaced your transferred out player...

Since Sess and Etherington both didn't play, that is exactly what would have happened...

Now you can choose not to agree with this, but I still think it is a valid argument...

Well, without the hit, I would have scored 37. With the hit I scored 40. Work that out!!!

On the whole Valencia|Nani|Young debate, you have to consider the work ethics of each player, and what Fergie prefers.

For me, Young on the left and Valencia on the right is Fergies choice, as both are very good defensively. Nani is a luxury player that can let you down when the games are tight. Fergies knows this.

Also, look at the tail end of last year, Nani was benched for about last 6-7 games as Fergie did not trust him, and this was after a very good season by Nani.

But then factor in Welbeck starting up top this year - his defensive work ethic is more than that of Hernandez and Berbatov combined so this may offset that somewhat.
Also Nani had played just about every game last year and Valencia was returning so it was a fresh pair of legs if I remember correctly.

I don't think we have witnessed Fergie's choice this season as all three haven't been fit at the same time. I agree that Valencia and Young are the better options right now but whether Fergie agrees only time will tell.

Sorry but that's all nonsense frankly.

Nani's far from a luxury player, he works his a*se off and has won us numerous tight games with a bit of magic.

What do you base Valencia/Young being the first choice pairing on exactly? They've hardly if ever started in the same side. Nani's been first choice when fit virtually all season.

He was benched towards the end of last season because his form dipped (coinciding with being assaulted by Carragher at Anfield) and because Valencia and Park were both in brilliant form and undroppable at the time. Nothing to do with this lack of trust you keep referring to.

If you take the 11 top scorers this season (as a 4-4-2) with RVP captain every game, you'd have 1750. 10 people overall are above this score. That's impressive. I didn't realise the points were that high. One guy is on 1800.

This 11 also has a price of £98m as well, so ignoring 4 subs.

He's scored 46% of Arsenal's goals, so he's almost beaten the other 10 players on the pitch. Nowhere near as impressive but still a good effort.

I'm on 1565 and in the top 30k, so 235 points off top! You need virtually everything to go right for you to get near the top. I came 777th one year and everything was beautiful that season (except for a terrible last GW).

Too many ideas for transfers this week, any advice appreciated:

    Scezny (Ruddy)
Evans Enrique Caulker (R. Taylor - injured?) (Cheapo)
    Bale Yaya Rosicky Siggy (Surman)
    Rooney RVP Suarez

    about 2m in the bank.

    Rosicky to Valencia?
    Raylor to Lescott?
    Yaya to Dempsey?
    Suarez to Odemwingie?
    Surman to Morrison?
    Save the transfer?

    RMT

1 FT + 4 pt hit spent on getting Rooney (Aguero) and Evans (Shawcross). I'm eager to take another 4 pt hit to get 1. Young, 2. Valencia, 3. Nani in for Silva (?). Thoughts on Man Utd's starting XI for this nad the coming GWs? With Young back and banging I feel he is nailed on, but Valencia had a decent run before he got injured.

    Krul (Vorm)
    Skrtel, Evans, Walker, Rangel
    Bale, Dempsey (vc), Silva, Siggy
