After being shifted around the West Brom midfield all season, it seems as if James Morrison has finally found a home. Used on both wings and through the middle in a conventional 4-4-2 by Roy Hodgson, Morrison’s versatility proved ultimately detrimental to his Fantasy prospects but a recent change of formation has coincided with a rise to prominence…

Afforded a role in the hole behind Marc-Antoine Fortune as the Baggies moved to 4-4-1-1, Morrison’s ascent as a viable mid-price Fantasy option has gone hand-in-hand with a climb up the table for the midlands outfit. A recent three-match winning streak was brought to an end at Old Trafford on Sunday, but a record of four wins and a draw from the last seven is indicative of their upturn in fortunes.

Morrison has been crucial for Hodgson over this recent period, grabbing two goals and four assists as the likes of Stoke, Chelsea and Sunderland were swept aside. Indeed, a breakdown of his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) stats shows that, prior to the Gameweek 22 win at the Britannia, Morrison had averaged just 2.4 points per game but since then, he’s jumped to 5.6, despite recent blanks against Chelsea and United.

With summer signing Shane Long now struggling for first team starts and Peter Odemwingie stationed wide right, Hodgson’s bold decision to dismantle his previously lacklustre attack has proved dividend. West Brom had scored a mere 20 goals in 21 games before the win at Stoke – since then, they’ve netted 14 in seven; a huge improvement that has Fantasy managers examining their attacking talents with renewed vigour.

A look at the upcoming fixture schedule suggests West Brom will be afforded plenty opportunity to maintain their good form. Hodgson’s side face a trip to Wigan and host Newcastle, Blackburn and QPR in the next six Gameweeks – all could be potentially profitable for the Baggies attacking assets.

With Odemwingie set to miss out on the potentially profitable trip to Wigan with a calf complaint, Morrison – at a mere 5.4 – offers ideal coverage of West Brom’s attacking talent against the basement club. Indeed, with game time guaranteed and a mere 1.3% ownership, the Scot looks well-placed to maintain his role as cut-price differential over the next few weeks, as Hodgson looks to steer his side to safety and beyond.

      Keep an eye on Jelavic.

Personally I'm not too keen with Odemwingie out wide, I mean he's scored 5 in 2 but take those two routs away and he's picked up a lot of 2 pters.

This is the kind of attitude which made me miss out on his 2 routs though I suppose.

Depending on the rest of your squad, Danny Graham could be a decent choice. If you look at his record in "easy" games (i.e. home games against bottom-to-mid table teams and away games against bottom teams) he's actually remarkably consistent, and from next week his fixtures are EVE-tot-NEW-qpr-BLA-bol.

So I did! Yeah it's one of the 2 for me, and having been of the same mind as you R.E. giving up a striker slot, over the last couple of days I've had doubts about a lot of the strikers I'd been eyeing up and quite like the look of a heavier midfield. Valencia, Mata, Sessegnon, Walcott and Gerrard all have some nice little runs I'd like to try and get in on, as well as Bale and Dempsey who I already have.

Nice ranking BTW. You are only 4pts ahead of me but a whole 7k places. It's very tight up top.

I was also tempted with SG, but might rather go for Lampard/Drogba. Rotation is a problem though.

you don t understand, when you have a expensive player like mata, you can hope that he plays well enven against man city. that why he cost tris price.

            I understand perfectly.

"team selection is just a case of picking your 11 player which have the better game"

Exactly my point. Picking someone on the basis of their pricetag regardless of form or fixtures is foolish.

i didn t say that, just that some players (but no mata) even if they have a bad fixtures are not benchable, and a 9.5 players (to expensive for mata) souldn t be benched IMO
but of course fixture and form are important!

Sorry, I was being a bit arsey but your original post reads as though you think Mata has to be in the team because of his price and I firmly disagree with that.

I agree that there are some players that I will play week in, week out regardless of fixture (RVP and Rooney basically) but that's nothing to do with their pricetag and everything to do with their potential to score big in every fixture.

People get blinded by the cost of players and put them in their teams against their better judgment sometimes.

Anyway, sounds like we more or less agree so I'm moving on 🙂

Mata & Dempsey are both poor away from home and so I have them on a Home rotation. Price isn't an issue for my team as I have both the palyers with the intention of benching them away from home.

Is Rooney coverage crucial? Have a really low valued team so hard for me to bring him in:

    Krul
    Kelly/Evans/Caulker
    Miyaichi/Dempsey/Silva/Mata
    Suarez/Zamora/VP
    Subs:
    Bogdan/Sigurdsson/Shotton/Raylor

    Bank: 1.0

Wasn't sure if its worth swapping Mata for Morrison to bring in Rooney for Suarez?

Do you think its silly having 3 cheap midfielders?

Was originally going to go with Mata for Young

hi all - been reading posts here recommending to sell Aguero. Am an Aguero owner (and Silva!) - considering Chelsea played 120 mins on Wednesday, play FA cup on Sunday and then play away to city on Tuesday - get the feeling City might have the edge. Also i thought city looked really good aftter going 2-0 down.

Still considering what to do - my midfield is a bit of a nightmare at the moment. Considering what to do with either Silva, Sess or Nani. 1.4mm in the bank. Original plan was to get Valencia for Sess. So would have Nani + Valencia as my proxy for not having Rooney. I have RVP, Aguero and Pogs up front

Not that it matters, current rank is 7k+ and lagging my min league leader by 17 points.

    Any help would be appreaciated

    Thanks!

There is no proxy for not having Rooney, other than getting in Rooney.

Look at it long term - over the next 5 games who do you think will score more, Aguero or Rooney. Fixtures say Rooney.

I think you would be ok to keep Aguero this week, and then maybe look to switch to Rooney next GW.

Terry came off after feeling the affects of his injury. Although Bosingwa came on and Ivanovic slipped inside I think that it was purly tactical.

I would wait and see the extent of his possible injury and if he's out I think Cahill should play.

The Man United winger dilemma is a tricky one for Sunday, hoping my patience with Valencia will pay off. Though with Nani rested and Young "resting" last night it could be anyone's guess.

    Krul(Bogdan)
JEvans, Enrique, Kelly (Cahill, Simpson) - Tempted to double up on Newcastle defenders.
Silva, Dempsey, Valencia, McClean (Ferguson) - Ferguson will be going soon.
    RVP, Rooney, Suarez
    2.8M in the bank + 1 FT.

Can't think where to spend my money or if I should save it for next week...any suggestions?

    Guys,

Which ONE of the following should I play:

    - Santon (NOR)
    - Pilkington (New)
    - Drenthe (ARS)
    - Caulker (Ful)

Currently got Santon in, but am worried he may be dropped as he has got the hook early in the last couple of games. Plus Norwich usually score, but if I'm not going to play him now, when will I ever?

    Cheers.

Don't think Perch will start at left back personally ... think he's more under threat from R Taylor but not convinced he's going to be fit anyway.

Santon had a tough workout vs Walcott but it should be a different story in a home match - I think he'll start. (I'm starting him this weekend)

    Hey guys

    Current team:

    Schwarzer/Krul
    Santon/Caulker/Evans/Skrtl/BAE
    Silva/Morrison/McClean/Dempsey/ADAM
    RVP/Rooney/Ba

Who do you think is the best replacement for Adam this week?

    Young/Nani, or someone else?

Was planning to swap Dempsey for Bale in GW31/32 but could just get him now for Adam?

    Cheers

there's been a lot of Silva/Mata > Young talk here.

Tony V could be back in the running after a trip to Athletico this week but no one knows.

if you're feeling frisky you could always get him in before the crowd and play him this week.

just make sure your bench is in order.

Always so much doubt with Fergie's team selections.

I want to get rid of Silva, but Young's a massive rotation risk and Valencia's probably not match fit.

        What to do...

I have stuck Young in for this week, if I have to take him back out again next week then so be it. I just get the feeling that anyone who doesn't have Young this week might well regret it, he could go absolutely mental against Wolves.

Why do coaches announce their teams for rugby internationals days before the actual game? Are they obliged to do this or is it just customary/considered sporting?

Just thinking how much easier this game would be if it worked the same way with the Premier League.

    A bit stuck this week...

took a hit last week so not wanting to again.

    Current XI would be:

    Krul
    Jose Evans Richards (Santon, Taiwo)
    Dempsey Bale Sigg Ryo (Walters)
    Ba (c) RVP Rooney)

I know i need to lose Walters and Taiwo however the plan was to downgrade Ba next week and bring in Valencia for Walters.

This week i could chuck out Taiwo but options look limited? Ridgewell? Senderos?
