Following the sudden collapse of Fabrice Muamba in today’s FA Cup tie with Spurs, Bolton have tonight issued an official statement which indicates that Muamba remains “in a critically ill condition in intensive care.”

Our thoughts and prayers remain with Muamba’s family and friends during this time.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Mark a bit offtopic, but tonight for the first time I have noticed extremely annoying flashing adds on here. Would it be possible not to show them for those who have member accounts? Or perhaps at least show just non-flashing adds to members?

Mail me if you see an ad which is particularly intrusive. We talk to our agency about the ads they run and can have some removed if need be. Blocking ads for members is something we can look at for next season.

Listened to the news in the car for several hours. Absolutely nerve wracking and I feared the worst. However, it seems like the emergency services have pulled off a minor miracle. So thankful we have those facilities in this country and that the paramedics were on standby.

Still very worried for his welfare. I originally thought "stable" meant he was on the road to recovery. Now, I fear there's more bad news to come. Hopefully, my instincts are once again incorrect.

It sounds like a skin of teeth job, there was such a delay in news updates. I was preparing myself.

Apparently a heart doc made his way onto the pitch and they had to give him more care in the tunnel.

so you can be stable and critically ill at the same time?

Not true. It is entirely possible to be stably critically ill. Stable/unstable refers to the evolution of the disease and the pace of the clinical changes. Critical/noncritical typically refers to whether somebody is in an ICU or not. One can be critically ill, yet stable at the moment, if that makes sense.

Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavourable.

The term "vital signs" means indicators such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration. The one-word descriptions are not medical terms, and they are more art than science. They're based on a doctor's best judgment of a patient's condition, as relayed to hospital spokespersons.

Thank gawd it happened at the ground where he was able to receive immediate medical attention. Imagine that kind of thing happening when you;re walking down the street or at home alone.

    Such a sad day 🙁

there are usually many signs if you are alone and dont wait too long to react on them. The problem is that when you are physically exerting yourself, the signs just seem sort of normal becuase your pulse is up, sweating like crazy, probably had some difficulty breathing but thought was normal, then boom you are down.
