Football has taken a backseat. A sense of perspective was gained by yesterday events. Our thoughts remain with Fabrice Muamba and his family this morning.

Having postponed our coverage last night and having taken the step to close commenting for several hours, we’re now posting our Scout Notes from yesterday’s Premier League games and hope that Fabrice goes on to make a full recovery.

Gylfi Sigurdsson
Slowly but surely, the Icelandic international has been picking up in ownership since his January loan move from Hoffenheim. Yesterday’s performance will surely see the transfers-in pick up in pace, with Sigurdsson’s brace at the Cottage steering Swansea to their fourth away win in six. With nine appearances now under his belt, his Fantasy returns have been exceptional – five goals, three assists and five bonus points, with the maximum surely set to follow. An average of 6.7 points per game (ppg) is top for midfielders so far and sums up his flourishing form as the attacking central midfielder in Brendan Rodgers’ 4-3-3; it’s unlikely his current price tag of 5.1 will remain so low for much longer.

Scott Sinclair
To say his away form has been below-par is something of an understatement. Prior to yesterday’s match, Sinclair had returned a single assist on the road all season – compared to seven goals, an assist and 11 bonus points at the Liberty Stadium – but a couple of assists saw him pick up attacking returns for the first time since Gameweek 23. Pre-bonus, he sits on 122 points and is one of only two players priced under 9.0 in the top ten midfielders, along with 7.1 priced Stephane Sessegnon; a clear indication of his overall potential, despite than poor form outside of Wales.

Steven Caulker
The 4.1 priced defender continues to offer exceptional value at the back, picking up a third successive clean sheet yesterday. Swansea had kept out City and Wigan in the previous two, with Caulker returning maximum bonus in each game and, although he’s unlikely to pick up any bonus this time round, an average of 3.9 ppg sees him far and away the best value defender priced 4.3 and under, with Sunderland’s Michael Turner next best with 3.4 ppg in comparison. Caulker’s cut-price potential is sure to be snapped up in light of Swansea’s upturn in defensive performance, though he will, of course, be unavailable for the Gameweek 31 clash against Spurs, due to the conditions of his loan deal.

Victor Moses
An assist for James McArthur’s opener, following on the back of last week’s goal at Norwich, saw the Wigan winger produce back-to-back attacking returns for the first time this season. Yesterday also saw Moses provide points for the first home game this term, with all his 3 goals and 4 assists coming on the road prior to the 1-1 draw with West Brom. He’s moved up by 0.2 in the past couple of weeks, returning to his starting price of 5.0, but with Liverpool, Chelsea, United and Arsenal to come in the next five, many Fantasy managers will be giving Moses a wide berth, particularly when the likes of Sigurdsson are excelling in the same price bracket.

James McArthur
Wigan’s 4.4 priced midfielder continued his recent strong form by netting the opener in yesterday’s draw with the Baggies. Afforded a first-team opportunity due to Mohamed Diame’s African Cup of Nations absence, McArthur has proven a major goal threat for the Latics, with his 54th minute strike meaning he has now found the net three times in the last seven gameweeks. Despite Diame’s subsequent return, McArthur has maintained his starting role and is proving to be a key component of the Latics side in the final third of the season. His price presents an obvious appeal, but those above-mentioned fixtures are likely to scare the vast majority away from investing in Roberto Martinez’s side.

Chris Brunt
The Irishman returned to the starting XI last week after a long period out with an ankle injury, filling in for Jerome Thomas on the West Brom left. With Thomas fit and available this week, however, Brunt was shifted to the right – as a result of Peter Odemwingie’s absence – and picked up an assist for Paul Scharner’s equaliser. Brunt’s pace is hardly his most obvious attribute, though, and with both Thomas and Odemwingie offering a more direct approach out wide, he may find it difficult in keeping a wing role. With Paul Scharner grabbing a goal yesterday and the likes of Keith Andrews and James Morrison also impressing in the middle of late, Roy Hodgson has a selection dilemma ahead if he’s to find a regular first-team place for Brunt once Odemwingie returns to the fold.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    It's a slow morning and I haven't done this in a while so would appreciate your suggestions on my team:

    Mignolet / Schwarzer
    Caulker, Simpson, O'Shea, Evans, Kelly
    Mata, Young, Sigurdsson, Dempsey, Bale
    Rooney, RVP, Ba

    Was thinking O'Shea and Kelly to Shotton and King (to avoid doubling up) and Young to Gerrard to gain some Liverpool coverage. Possibly even Ba to Yak depending on today. Good moves? Any other advice?

      Avoid Ba to Yak imo. others look good. And just as a heads-up, King WILL get injured so be prepared for that else just go for Kaboul

      I like your team. Not much needing changed at all. I have Mignolet and was considering doubling up with Turner so keeping O'Shea wouldn't be so bad. They are a tough team to break down. If you don't like doubling up I guess Shotton is a good option. His place in the team doesn't seem in much doubt these days.

      I would definitely not have more than 1 Fulham defender/keeper the way they are looking at the back. I am looking at King aswell. People will mention his risk of injury but he looks fine to me and at £4.8m with good fixtures coming up I would look at getting him in.

      I wouldn't get rid of Young for Gerrard. See how Liverpool look beyond the Everton game. Plus Young's form is picking up and the fixtures are too good to ignore.

        Thanks everybody for the replies!

        Yeah I think Gerrard is a 'wait and see' for the next game, same with King for a short while. I'd rather to Kelly to Shotton than O'Shea to Shotton but it doesn't give me enough money for Gerrard. Maybe Schwarzer to Begovic instead?

        Young I'd also like to keep but, with Rooney in the team and Young under some threat of rotation, he seems the obvious one to go. Hopefully I'll figure out a way to have Young and Gerrard...

    Sunday papers are reporting Celtic are having secret meetings with a plan to join league 1. Apparently talks are in a advanced stage.

    What does everyone think? Celtic obviously can't enter the premier league so will need to work their way up. Not sure why they don't enter at the bottom in league 2 though

        at present, we would survive in the EPL but no more than that. we have a very good young side. the crucial part of the argument is resources, if we were afforded the revenues that EPL sides get then there is no doubt we would compete. this was proven around 10 years ago when there was a relatively even keel and we had an unbelievably good side. since then, the EPL has gone money daft, hence we are now scouting the championship and taking top young players from that division (Ledley, Hooper, Matthews etc). Celtic are a MASSIVE club with an under-estimated worldwide fanbase.

        very simplistic way of looking at it. we are a scottish club that was founded in the east end of glasgow to support the poor irish community of immigrants following the exodus after the potato famine. hence we have strong irish roots and a lot of our legendary players of the past and support are of irish decent.

        the huge difference is that FCUM were a newly established club, celtic have near 125 years of history behind them and are one of the world's most decorated clubs in terms of trophies, including being the first british team to ever win the european cup. celtic going to england would be a money spinner, teams in league 1 & the championship, even the EPL would relish coming to a 60,000 sell out every week. we would also sell out the away end EVERY WEEK - regardless of whether it was Bristol or Barnsley, Carlisle or Crystal Palace.

          I agree with the poster above that it is completely unfeasible, and will never happen. My post was slightly in jest.

          Although I see no reason why a current Football League club should be relegated, when they previously wouldn't be, to allow a Scottish club into the English footballing system.

            there are 2 Welsh clubs in the English footballing system. i know circumstances are different but the theory is the same surely? the current format of 4 teams being relegated would remain - it's not like this would change. it would just mean only 3 teams were promoted from league 2.

        I agree with you Jamsiep. this is likely either pure tosh, or tactical tosh (designed to put the frighteners on the other SPL teams - the 'gang of ten' who are making noises about crafty rule changes to be made once Rangers die).

        But Celtic will not remain in a Scottish league. Big changes are already agreed for 2015.

            I have no problem with equal sharing of tv revenue, but the mooted sharing of ticket income is just funny.

            Disagree with the rest though- Scottish society likes football more than Welsh or Irish. Celtic and Rangers are a product of that, and other teams will step up to replace either should one disappear for any reason... And what is this Old Firm you mention?

    Hi guys,

    What do you think about Drogba(!) and Siggy in for Ba and Dempsey (no hit)? Would leave me with this team and 1.6m in the bank:

    Vorm (Mignolet)
    Evans, Richards, Skrtel (Williamson, Caulker)
    Valencia, Silva, Bale, Siggy (McClean)
    RVP, Rooney, Drogba

    cheers!

    Alright folks, can I get a few opinions on my team (linked). I have been burnt by benching Vorm CS too many times this season for my liking, Wigan, Stoke, Sunderland, Liverpool, Fulham yesterday and a few more. So depending on how today goes I am thinking of doing Krul--->Bogdan and playing Vorm for the rest of season. This will give me 1.5M elsewhere to improve. What to do with other FT?

    1 - Yaya --->Valencia or Walcott
    2 - Taiwo ---->5.9M or below
    3 - Silva or Bale---->Young, Gerrard or Nani (can afford Lamps if I sell silva)
    4 - Ba ---->Balotelli

      I was thinking Ba - Balotelli too but I'm not convinced by City's fixtures and City have 4 strikers playing in one competition now. Also, though he's quite consistent, he has yet to score he's rarely explosive. Therefore I'd lean towards keeping Ba or downgrading to invest more in the midfield.

      Silva to Young or Gerrard look good to me. Lampard is also a good shout though he could be playing deeper in RDM's formation. Mata is worth a look...

        I maybe giving Ba one more week. Competition from Tevez is not under my consideration, Balo is the most nailed on of City strikers at this moment IMO. If I make a move in midfield I think it has to be to get a United player in, Chelsea will rotate a bit with FA Cup and UCL. I have Skrtel and Liverpool are not showing the form at the moment to warrant 2 players, despite fixtures being in their favour I am doubtful.

      Keep fighting Fabrice. The human body is capable of miraculous things. I was told by two doctors in the past year that my father had no chance to remain alive with his condition, and he is still going, walking again now, and just turned 70 last month. Was told by those around me during critical times to prepare to deal with loss, and on a level I did, but I still believed in the stubborness of the human body, and my father continues to prove the odds wrong. Not to suggest terrible tragedies are magically unavoidable, the world can be a seemingly cruel and unjust one. Just want to express my personal hope for Fabrice, and I know first hand that that hope is not a false one. Watching everything unfold yesterday was painful for all who witnessed it. It sent a shock to our systems. For whatever reason though, situations like this have a tendency to jolt our consiousness back to the core of what really matters, breaks down the walls of insignificant shit we invent for ourselves, and exposes the fragility and sacredness of life and exisitence. Nature doing its best to keep humans humane.

        Very well written. I remember the book "it's not about the bike" by lance armstrong which was on very similar lines.

        all true words

        but i find the insignificant shit soon builds its own walls up again, maybe as a coping mechanism for the harshness of reality

          this is why i believe insanity is a condition where you are incapable of filtering the truth. That is how harsh reality is!!!! that is why those walls are built. i try my best to not filter the truth, and it is a difficult path, but i feel like i will eventually be considered insane someday. I really do.
