While there are still five games to go in the Gameweek, the EA Sports Player Performance Index has been published for the weekend’s four matches, which means the Fantasy Premier League have awarded their bonus points accordingly. Here’s how they’re shared out…

Fulham 0 Swansea 3
Sigurdsson 3, Routledge 2, Allen 1

Wigan 1 West Brom 1
McArthur 3, Scharner 2, Beausejour 1

Wolves 0 Man United 5
Hernandez 3, Valencia 2, Welbeck & Evans 1

Newcastle 1 Norwich 0
Cisse 3, Gutierrez & Cabaye 2

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's galling that Rooney didn't get any BPs - he was by a million miles their best player yesterday, which means that the Ppi index is just a rubbishly weighted calculation towards goals.

he would have got 2 I reckon under the old 'man in the stands' system. If it'd ended up 1-0 he might have got something, but with that many assisters and scorers Rooney was always going to end up behind those others.

I'm a Rooney captainer, but still happy as at least he got something and Evans' unexpected 13 pts more than makes up for it.

Guys thinkign of doing Nani to Gerrard?

United midfield just seems a bit of a lottery - and although switching to Valencia frees up funds, he can and prob will be rotated (game time for Young, Nani, Giggs). Think I'll just stick with Roons.

if you look at valencia stats, he's played almost every minute of football that he's been available for since december 3rd. Ferguson has stated he will play a big part in the run in, and also the fact that he is 2-3 million less than young and nani, means in my opinion it is a straight forward conclusion that :
            Valencia > Young || Nani

Wilko 1 bit of advice, ignore Toni at your peril for me he's essential till end. Saf much prefers toni to young/nani in that order. United are in controll of their own destiny mostly playing 1 game a week, rotation wont come into it , Saf will play his best 11 every week he's cutthroat , Valencias work rate and footballing ethic is exactly what Saf demands for the run-in, he won't have any time for hot/cold players eg young or luxury players/divers eg nani. Saf can smell victory in his nostrils and against the noisy neighbours, "he will love it when he beats em !" at your peril mate....

The bps system is flawed. Valencia was miles ahead of Hernandez yesterday. In what was the easiest game United will have all season Chicarito had a poor game by his standards. Hernandez and Welbeck both benefitted from the great play of Rooney and Tony V. The bps system is more about who happens to get on the end of the final ball to score not the overall performance of a player. It needs a revamp.

I am not questioning the arbitrators that currently decide who to award bps to. It's the system that is flawed. Once they have taken into consideration other keys factors besides putting the ball into the net I am happy for them to award the bps in accordance with the new criteria.

Good point. Tapping in a couple of goals when you are already 3-0 up isn't the same contribution as the player who dictates the play throughout, completes a high number of key passes and was awarded man of the match.

I think best if people 'watch' the game and see who is the most influential etc. You can't count certain things which influence a game - i.e. a defender could own a forward from 5 minutes in, but since that forward can't go near him then no influence is registered in the current format OR for e.g. siggy wouldn't have got his goals without other players pulling the defence this way and that.

Yes WATCHING FOOTBALL objectively is the answer.

Yes it is.... because my captain would have got 2 BPs under that system 😛

Everyone should be careful that they aren't just calling for revolution because they got 2-4 less points than they should have. It should be for the right reasons.

As an aside, are Goalkeepers fairly represented in the ICT index? More so than the Rooneys of this game, people like Vorm and Hart have often been overlooked in the BPs this season because of the current EA PPI system.

I think I'm not explaining my question very well, we all may have a particular preference for the weighting of the system - but who is to say that my preferred system is any "fairer" than your proposed system? Is there an arbiter which would be acceptable?

Well, I'm afraid you haven't really! My question relates to certifying the fairness of the system that awards the points, not the consistency of individual points awards within that system. You have a preference for a change, another person will have a different preference for a change, what I'm getting at is "is there any way to objectively certify the fairness of the system?"

I fear we're going round in circles here, I'm not asking what your preference for a system is, I'm asking how we could objectively establish whose preference is "fairer".

Well OBVIOUSLY there isnt. But the implication is that just because we cant objectively certify something as FAIR, then we should not even attempt to get FAIRER!

I'd say a system will be deemed FAIR (or FAIRER) if it takes into account more factors of a football match, and if it produces acceptable outcomes* across a number of test matches.

*In accordance with, I suppose, the bonus allocations that a panel of experts would dish out.

As all systems are arbitary, the 'correct' system is the one that generates results that most people who watched the match agree with. At the moment everyone knows that the BPs will be stupid, even if they know why they are awarded. The system thereofer doesn't worka nd need s to be changed. Ideally it needs to reflect both stats (to make it accountable) and the perception of observers.

Yes but if, as I suspect, FPL players will never agree on the appropriateness of the results - to play devil's advocate - why would the PL be interested in investing in a change which simply swaps one set of moans for another?

Can FPL players grumble if it goes to a voting system and the majority wins? Naturally some would not be happy with the end result but you can't complain if everyone has there say and it is achieved in a fair and decent way.

It's interesting from previous Hazard comments though, I don't think he'd be too keen to go to City.

He seems to want to be assured gametime first and foremost.

He's kept his commitment to Lille for the past few years when he could have gone and had money elsewhere, so seems like the kind who values football first.

i know this might sound a little sanctimonious and i don't mean it to be but can people please stop and think before they post things like: "i hope the TOT vs STO game is called off".

the reason it would be called off is that some players and staff might have been affected by the fact that a fellow professional and friend nearly died right in front of them.

we all like to do well in FPL and we all want points off the bench but please think before you post.

Don't bench Bale... People make so many mistakes benching players against good teams... Just look at some of the seasons results:

        City 6 - 1 United
        United 8 - 2 Arsenal
        United 3 - 3 Chelsea

People still score goals... Bale is capable of destroying whoever plays at RB for Chelski

      B

Away day rule - Don't play Aguero, don't play Fulham

Home rule - Play Aguero, maybe still don't play Fulham

      Any day rule - Swans

No day rule - Canaries (excluding Surman)

So why exactly doesn't Papiss Cisse get any love here? The guys is ahead of Ba in pecking order for their country and has thrived in the epl instantly. Priced at 6,7 now, great value. I know that Pog scored well for a few rounds but still?

      Valencia 105
      Javier Hernández 84
      Jonny Evans 83
      Danny Welbeck 80
      Rafael 75
      Wayne Rooney 55
      David De Gea 49

Yeah hernadez getting 50 is taking the p*ss. I wish we could get an explanation about what counted towards the points, apart from the obvious goals and assists. Goals' must weighted pretty heavy.

Yes they are. Even in Metro they are 25. If Evans had stayed on, he would easily have outscored Hernandez, in Metro, at least.

Erm somebody had a blog explaining it all in some detail - without any specific numbers for each. Basically it's weighted so acts that contribute most to a victory gain PPI points. Hence goals being weighted high, assists high but a lot less so (an assist is just a key pass without a finish after all) as well as blocks, tackles, conpleted passes. It's all worked out on algorithm on a huge sample.

Yep I figured out most of it myself - but completely underestimated the value attributed to a goal.

Metro get a part of the way round the problem by awarding a starting bonus of 12, and then adding a point every 6 minutes or so.

    Morning All,

So - is the reckoning that Santon has now lost his place in the starting XI?

Got 2FTs this week, so I'm reviewing my priorities (one of which is to replace Sorensen). Any thoughts?

    Al Habsi - Sorensen
    Enrique - Senderos - Evans - Santon - Caulker
    Silva - Valencia - Dempsey - Pilkington - Drenthe
    RVP - Rooney - Suarez

    Hmmmm, very tempted to do
    Silva -> Valencia
    Ba -> Suarez

    Current team is:
    Vorm/Schwarzer
    Evans/Senderos/Enrique/Richards/Raylor
    Siggy/Myaichai/Silva/Demspey/Bale
    Ba/RVP/Rooney

Any huge mistakes in there you think might need sorting out before? Cheers!

Rushing in Valencia is a mistake IMO. He still isnt guaranteed game time as there is so much competition for wide positions in United's team.

Young for example... Destroyed 2 weeks in a row and got dropped.

Rooney is the only guaranteed starter at the moment
