With over 1,400 entries received, Gameweek 29 has whittled down the first round participants of the Paddy Power Cup VI to just 512. A qualifying score of 56 was required to guarantee a first round berth alongside our five former champions. For those scoring 55 you need to click here for the full results, and nervously scroll down towards the 500 mark.

On with the draw then, and the full set of 256 fixtures can be viewed right here.

The former cup winners are always the ones to watch – especially the defending champion – and it’s Tommyboy that is charged with the giant-killing of Paddy Power Cup V winner sleepingmaster.

Before sleepingmaster it was Ninja_Fit_Saints who wore the crown, and he’s involved in what is arguably the tie of the round against Marvellus.

Our inaugural winner, donnellyc, is now making his fifth attempt at regaining his title. His first hurdle this time round is jon13597493.

Now on the books with the Scout, Paddy Power Cup II winner Jonty closed the 2009/10 season on the ultimate high. He’s once again looking to reach those heights, and it’s Mull standing in his way.

Perhaps the biggest name of them all though is Gooner dave. Not only did he win the third edition of this competition, but he threatened to lift the Members version several weeks later. Looking to stop the juggernaut immediately in his tracks is ralphypne.

All ties are to be played across Gameweek 30. Good luck to all 512 fantasy managers competing in round one, and commiserations to those missing the cut on this occasion.

I'm captaining Rooney (I think).. Reasons being.

    1) My rival who is 50 points ahead doesn't own Rooney and WILL (c) RVP

    2) The bookies have Rooney on shorter odds to score a hattrick & '2 or more'

    3) Longer rest time.

    4) Villa are better away than Fulham

    5) I support Arsenal so if RVP does bang them in i'll be happy either way 🙂

Seen it on paddy power earlier..

RVP is 7/1 for a hattrick

Rooney is 11/2 for a hattrick

Rooney is onlt 17/10 for 2 or more goals.. RVP is 11/5 for the same market

    Vorm
    Skrtel, Enrique, Evans
    Bale, Valencia, Ryo, McClean
    RVP, Rooney(c), Ba

    Krul, Dempsey, Shotton, Kelly

Free transfer used, 5.5 in bank. The team has good fixtures this week so I can't see anything that justifies a hit unless anyone has some ideas?

I think Villa are more negative and harder to break down. More chance of Fulham getting hammered in my opinion. Also, its on TV Monday night so something to look forward too.

Don't know how accurate this is but I once saw someone post something on here about Rooney performing better when the game is on TV. I'm interested in testing that theory with my captain points at stake 😉

Lol yeah Rooney checks to see if his game is on TV and then decides to play better 🙂
No but the Wolves game sort of scared me off captaining Rooney, with United scoring 5 and Rooney getting only an assist. RVP is involved in all Arsenal's goals and they are in great form, unfortunately.

    Rooney or RvP? uggh..

    Any opinions on this?

RvP played 3 days ago, and AV are no defensive slouches. They do concede from set pieces though, which RvP has under his belt.

    vs.

Rooney against Wigan. Wigan can't defend anything, and Rooney is on kicks and pens, and usually good for at least an assist. Also has been rested longer than Persie.

Problem with united (as exemplified last week) is that the goals can come from anywhere.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated! If you could give a reason why that would help a lot too 🙂

    Thanks

      a) no, Odem just back from injury and may be rusty.
      b) no, Suarez loves hitting the post or hits it straight at the keepers stomach.
      c) Could be beautiful this week. Do you trust Liverpool to improve their consistency longer term?
      d) Walcott has phases of consistency, then goes back to his usual frustrating self. Could pay off short term.

Doosra if you're around, and others. Been struggling with this today.

I've got Lescott, with Kelly or Santon coming in for him as he's injured for 1/2 pts. I know it's normally frowned upon for a defender transfer but I want Vermaelen and can't think of a reason not to do for a hit.

Anyone else worth getting if not him?

I will get Verm in for Taiwo next week, only as owning him this week would upset the balance of my team. I'd get him in

It's a money saving move to someone consistently scoring well when playing. Excellent move.

i think valencia will be rested tomorrow as young and giggs were rested last week so next week vs blackburn a tougher away fixture, it would be nani/giggs on the left and valencia on the right

Giggs doesn't play on the wing. This isn't 2002.

Valencia has been out through injury so likely to continue to get more game time.... plus he was the best player on the pitch last week, cant see fergie dropping him... but he has surprised me in the past

I would be amazed if Valencia didn't start. Utd don't even play until Monday night, he's had more than a weeks rest since the game against Wolves and is in fantastic form. Young may well start on the left and Giggs could also play centrally but neither of them will be playing on the right. With no other competitions to worry about Utd are only playing 1 game per week. There is no need to rest him.

Young may do well this week but as Breadbin says it will save you money to use elsewhere and when Nani returns I reckon Valencia on current form is the most likely of the 3 wingers to get most gametime.

Surman for me. Anyone with attacking threat against Wolves has a good chance of prospering. I see Stoke v City as a tense 0-1.
