Wayne Rooney’s goal is just enough as United dominate but ultimately rely on a contentious refereeing decision to hold off Fulham at Old Trafford. Here’s the notes from last night’s Gameweek climax…

Jonny Evans
The centre-back compounded his “essential” Fantasy status with the assist for United’s winner to add to his clean sheet. Maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus is beckoning, giving Evans his second consecutive double figure return as United recorded a third shut-out in as many games. Recent weeks have seen Evans’ price rise to 5.0 but, given that he offers assured starts in the arguably the strongest back four in the league, there can surely be no quibbling over his acquisition.

Wayne Rooney
Replaced after 77 minutes, Rooney nonetheless had already notched 21 goals for the season, with last night’s strike his eighth goal in his last six league starts. That proved enough to justify the Fantasy Premier League captaincy over Robin Van Persie, as the two strikers begin an ongoing head-to-head feud for the Fantasy armband and the Golden Boot for the remainder of the season. By his recent standards, Rooney’s performance was a modest one – the goal being his only effort on target in the game.

Antonio Valencia
The Ecuadorian went into the match with a vast slab of new FPL ownership, willing him to re-produce the points haul from the Molineux rout. While Valencia had a superb opportunity to seal the victory early in the second half, he emerged with a blank to frustrate his new investors. Despite that, Valencia would seem likely to hold his starting role on the right flank for the trip to Blackburn with his work rate and all-round game clearly in favour with his boss. The recent surge in ownership has seen his FPL tag rocket from 7.5 to 7.9 but, at that price, he still remains excellent value – offering a potentially rich source of attacking points for United’s favourable run-in.

Ashley Young
Young was recalled to the starting lineup with Javier Hernandez, perhaps surprisingly, dropped to the bench to make way. That saw Danny Welbeck tuck in alongside Wayne Rooney in attack. Young had ample opportunities to reward those Fantasy managers who had kept faith with the former Villa man, but saw his best efforts turned away by the athleticism of Mark Schwarzer. Young seems set to compete with Nani – who is expected back in training this week – for the role on the left, with Valencia looking more secure in Ferguson’s lineup on the opposite flank. With his start at Blackburn in question, then, Young’s stock is set to decline as Valencia’s security and price tag has him move in the opposite direction in our Watchlist rankings.

Javier Hernandez
The Mexican watched on from the bench while Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney struggled to break the Fulham resistance, despite firing a brace at Wolves last time out. As a Fantasy investment, Hernandez remains a real rotation risk, with his battle with Welbeck set to continue for the remaining matches. While Evans and Rooney look too strong to resist for two of our the three FPL slots, Hernandez is a luxury option for the third slot – the security and value offered by Valencia again looks set to prove decisive, leaving both Hernandez and Welbeck as likely short-term differentials for the final Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    THESTEADY

Just going to repost this here.

Can I give you a very serious hint? You need to contribute more to the site and stop being so selfish. Yes you can put little emoticons after everything as you find it funny posting stuff about your team every ten minutes, but we all know it’s because you can’t make decisions about your team and you want help. People won’t give you this help if you don’t appear to be helping others.

Golden Rule: The less you post about your own team, the more other people will help you.

I'm being a little different and going for Aguero. Don't see Papiss doing much in the next two games.

Aguero has WBA and SUN in the next three, ars sandwiched between the two. City will be going all guns blazing for the title and since their GD now is not too far from United's, they'll be getting to get as many goals as possible from those two home games.

Baines, Vermaelen and Cahill popular on here recently because of goal scoring potential and because they have scored recently. Wilkinson and Shotton being considered because of Stoke's kind fixtures. But there doesn't seem to be much mention of Huth - is there something I don't know? He hasn't scored recently but the potential is surely still there. Does he still go up for corners or does he leave that to Shawcross nowadays?

Huth headed the disallowed one against Man City. I think Huth is still going up for corner and free-kick as usual, but ShawX got more of the ball. Btw, as Jungle mentioned, ShawX is one yellow away from suspension.

Chelsea - Skrtel Walc Sig + 4 (Ba Senderos Caulk)

I reckon you've got the edge, I prefer Walcott and Sigs to Silva and Suarez, but no guarantees, Walcott and Sigs can both very easily come up with 2s.

Also, I need to clarify the rules, if two teams are level on points it goes to H2H record, if that H2H record is a 1-1 tie, what next?
Is it H2H GD between the teams or Overall GD for each team?

It's pretty rare to get a double digit score from one of your defenders, let alone 4 in the space of 3 GW's.
I must say I am chuffed at the 62 points Vermaelen/Evans have given me the past 3 games.

Yeah I should probably have got Vermaelen rather than G Johnson a few weeks back!

Live and learn and all that.

Stupidly G Johnson has stayed in my team this week, as think when playing he does have good attacking potential and I had the money this week to swap Santon to Vermaelen (then next week can do G Johnson or Micah to Caulker).

Bit of a story this one guys, would greatly appreciate it if you took time to read.

Trying my best to not give up on the fight with my rival, having said that my situation is dire. I have 178 points to make up, over 8 GW. I'm not kidding myself, I'm pretty sure I won't do it, but I am not giving up. I have already done Santon-->Jonny E for my transfer, as his is killing me and I can't afford to lose any more points because of that.

Here is the breakdown of the players we have the same; Caulker, Jose E, Jonny E / Dempsey, Valencia, Bale / RVP, Rooney.

I have: Vorm, Schwartzer / Taiwo, Riise / McClean, Morrison/ Odemwengie
He has: Mingolet, Krul / BAE, Simpson / Dyer, Moses / Suarez

I am pretty sure that my current set of differentials aren't going to cut it, oh how I wish Fulham has kept some cleanies. I am looking for crazy ideas, I need a Maxi Rodriguez of last season style pick. The punt of all punts that might just come off. I feel if I get get a stormer of a week in, then I might have a hope. Ideas much appreciated, point hits would best be avoided due to the deficit obviously but perhaps another transfer this week is in order. I am pretty sure he will stay with the same set-up this week, he likes to go 0, 2FT, 0, 2FT etc.

Feel free to tell me I have no chance, but hey I like a little fighting spirit.

you have to beat his team on average by over 20pts each week - sorry but I think you have no chance! I would keep trying though maybe try and get an expensive defender in and captain them a couple of times!

You have no virtually no chance, but your best hope is probably to keep bringing in and captaining players who (a) he hasn't got and is unlikely to get and (b) are capable of scoring 3 goals in a match. Maybe players like Tevez / Balotelli / Dzeko, Hernandez, Ba, etc

Can you afford a Baines or Verm? Maybe for one of Enrique, Riise? From 32-36 Swansea have some decent fixtures so perhaps Sigurdsson in for Morrison.

I think your only chance of scaling that mountain is Tevez. You can't afford him without ditching RVP or Rooney and in your position I'd look at Rooney. He has been playing deeper and deeper recently and it is possible that his points have dried up.

You'd make some money out of it and you could use it for a punt on Barfa. If his partnership with Cisse continues as it did on saturday, he could also win big.

I really don't think this will work but it might, and I can't think of anything else that possibly could so I say go for it.

The more this season goes on the more I've decided I like the old bonus points system better. I think I can remember one match in the past 4 years on the old system I've been confused about bonus point distribution. I can't count how many times I've been annoyed this season, which this week has bought such gems as:

    1) Young not getting any bonus points, despite contributing heavily to the goal and goal threat including having numerous shots brilliantly saved by Schwarzer
    2) McLean contributing to all 3 Sunderland goals, only to get outdone by a Taiwo - who let 3 goals in, was on the losing team yet snatched the 3 bonus because he happened to score. I don't care what Taiwo has done in the match, McLean won it for Sunderland.

I get that it's scientific and rewarding numbers, but numbers don't tell the whole story. Bring back the man in the stands.

actually in taiwos case, since they had a goal each, goals doesnt matter. so this instance should rather be seen as proof that if u individually have a really good game, u can get the points imo
