Wayne Rooney’s goal is just enough as United dominate but ultimately rely on a contentious refereeing decision to hold off Fulham at Old Trafford. Here’s the notes from last night’s Gameweek climax…

Jonny Evans
The centre-back compounded his “essential” Fantasy status with the assist for United’s winner to add to his clean sheet. Maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus is beckoning, giving Evans his second consecutive double figure return as United recorded a third shut-out in as many games. Recent weeks have seen Evans’ price rise to 5.0 but, given that he offers assured starts in the arguably the strongest back four in the league, there can surely be no quibbling over his acquisition.

Wayne Rooney
Replaced after 77 minutes, Rooney nonetheless had already notched 21 goals for the season, with last night’s strike his eighth goal in his last six league starts. That proved enough to justify the Fantasy Premier League captaincy over Robin Van Persie, as the two strikers begin an ongoing head-to-head feud for the Fantasy armband and the Golden Boot for the remainder of the season. By his recent standards, Rooney’s performance was a modest one – the goal being his only effort on target in the game.

Antonio Valencia
The Ecuadorian went into the match with a vast slab of new FPL ownership, willing him to re-produce the points haul from the Molineux rout. While Valencia had a superb opportunity to seal the victory early in the second half, he emerged with a blank to frustrate his new investors. Despite that, Valencia would seem likely to hold his starting role on the right flank for the trip to Blackburn with his work rate and all-round game clearly in favour with his boss. The recent surge in ownership has seen his FPL tag rocket from 7.5 to 7.9 but, at that price, he still remains excellent value – offering a potentially rich source of attacking points for United’s favourable run-in.

Ashley Young
Young was recalled to the starting lineup with Javier Hernandez, perhaps surprisingly, dropped to the bench to make way. That saw Danny Welbeck tuck in alongside Wayne Rooney in attack. Young had ample opportunities to reward those Fantasy managers who had kept faith with the former Villa man, but saw his best efforts turned away by the athleticism of Mark Schwarzer. Young seems set to compete with Nani – who is expected back in training this week – for the role on the left, with Valencia looking more secure in Ferguson’s lineup on the opposite flank. With his start at Blackburn in question, then, Young’s stock is set to decline as Valencia’s security and price tag has him move in the opposite direction in our Watchlist rankings.

Javier Hernandez
The Mexican watched on from the bench while Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney struggled to break the Fulham resistance, despite firing a brace at Wolves last time out. As a Fantasy investment, Hernandez remains a real rotation risk, with his battle with Welbeck set to continue for the remaining matches. While Evans and Rooney look too strong to resist for two of our the three FPL slots, Hernandez is a luxury option for the third slot – the security and value offered by Valencia again looks set to prove decisive, leaving both Hernandez and Welbeck as likely short-term differentials for the final Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Guys, I have 2 FT and am thinking of either:

    A) Skrtel - Baines and Ba - Adebayor
    B) Skrtel - Walker and Ba - Aguero

    Which looks best?

    thoughts on BAINES:

his next 4 fixtures (whilst blue on the ticker) arent as easy as they look at first glance

WBA - good away form, can see them scoring especially if everto9ns game tonight goes the distance
nor - only failed to score at home on 3 occasions this season
SUN - in good form, sessegnon tends to score well away from home hitting teams on the break
stk - tough place to go

whilst there is potential for him to score well in all 4 fixtures it could easily go the other way. seems a big gamble at 7.8m

    thoughts?

      All of this is true.

On the other hand, Everton are playing well, just beat Swansea away (which City failed to do), and Baines is on virtually all set pieces including penalties.

Coupled with the fact that he IS capable of some explosive scores (double digit), I think if you are chasing then its reasonable to get him.

Of course its a big gamble, especially since Im getting him over Verm, but both mini league rivals have Verm and with few weeks to go I am prepared to risk it.

      He who dares...

Any changes needed for next week? Worried that if Kompany is still not fit I only have two starting defenders, one of which is a Skrtel

    My team:
    Krul (Vorm)
Jevans / Skrtel / Kompany (Santon / Caulker)
Bale / Dempsey / Valencia / Walcott (Siggy)
    Rooney (VC) / RVP (C) / Ba

    1ft, 0.3 in bank

    Should I do:
    Kompany -> Verm
    or
    Skrtel -> Verm/Baines & Ba -> Yak for a -4pt hit

    Or something else?

Problem is if Kompany is not fit for next week keeping him will only leave me with 2 definite starting defs.

I'm agonising whether to take a hit to get Vermaelain in for Skirtel whats the general consensus here? I am loathe to take a hit for a defender and while he could possibly get returns this week I don't fancy him getting much against city my defence is Evans, Skirtel, Enrique, Caulker, Kelly

My thoughts exactly while he does present a goal threat I think people are possibly overlooking the fact that Skirtel while admittedly not great for clean sheets lately, is also capable of the odd goal from corners with collo missing from the toons defence I may just play him and save the transfer

Indeed. Been burnt with Everton in the past.

Baines is tempting (pens) but Everton actually have to ge tinto oppo box for that to happen...

Yes, these are the best 2, unless you wish to use the cash elsewhere - perhaps upgrading 3rd striker. If so I prefer Verm.

Also, don't make the transfers now - wait until after tonight's game in case Baines gets injured.

also if Everton get through they may not play in GW34? Verm is almost certainly in for me as he will play wigan GW34.

Always an option, but he either (A) has a chance of not starting away, I believe he didnt start against basel away, he opted for Tymoschuk instead, with Muller coming on in the second half. (B) Muller usually is the first to be replaced, around the 60-65th minute mark, in the ECL i recall.

But he does get on the score sheet, but against an Marseille side that is likely to dig in, I can see goals coming from Bayern's width.

who else gettin aguero in? options for me are either
    A)Skrtel to Baines
    B)Ba to Aguero/Adebayor

And aguero really is temptin me.. city have to start him after last week and they need goals.. 2 at home in next 3 and then norwich.. cant be a more explosive differential than him in the whole game

Thanks all. Raf was a surprise. I didn't get to see game just read live gamecast... I don't think he was mentioned once the whole game. Val was a surprise not to get a bap as he was mentioned loads with quality crosses and runs (apparently) 🙂

Evans, Valencia and Rafael were the best Utd players last night. Not sure what Carrick did at all (as usual).

The ref should have got a bonus point for Utd for not giving that penalty (which was given away by Carrick!)

Just wondered what players you recommended.

Wondering if I should concentrate on Bayern, Barca, Madrid and Benfica and ignore the rest?

Also do I go with Messi and Ronaldo or look to get Sanchez and Benzema so I can also get Fabregas and Kaka?

I've gone for something slightly different:

      Neuer
      Alves - Pereira - Abata - Arbeloa
      Ribery - Robben - Kaka
      Gomez - Ronaldo - Benzema

      Eduardo - Ilia - E. Panagiotou - Cabral (Played for basel :P)

Literally loading out my first team with the cheapest players possible on the bench.

Anyone had an awful week - 39 points after such promise

First time I had all my 3 swansea defence in and they draw a blank

Mclean on the bench (after being played last 3 games)

Why do I play this bloody game!

True - I'm leading my mini league but everyone had a great week bar me. Just a bit fed up as for the last 4 weeks I've had 12+ on the bench.

Half tempted to fill bench with non players to avoid it haha
