As one cup competition edges towards the finish line, the Paddy Power Cup VI is just getting into gear. Some 512 Fantasy managers pitted their wits against each other in the Gameweek 30 first round and here are the results.

Four of our five previous winners safely negotiated a passage into round two – donnelyc defeated jon13597493 61 – 50, Jonty ran away a 46 – 38 winner against Mull, Ninja_Fit_Saints breezed past Marvellus 54 – 40, and reigning champ sleepingmaster dismissed Tommyboy 58 – 52.

Missing the grade was Paddy Power Cup III winner, Gooner dave, who succumbed 50 – 46 to ralphypne.

On to the second round, and the full set of 128 fixtures can be viewed right here.

Aside from Jonty, Mark and myself (Akers 41* – 41 07warrel – casual) are the sole Scout representatives still in the competition, and have pulled out of the hat Sheffield Rules and Fenners respectively.

All ties to be played across the upcoming Gameweek 31. Good luck to everyone with a fixture this weekend, and commiserations to those leaving the competition at this stage.

+1. This pointless forward planning is like the wife calling to ask what you are doing on a Tuesday in mid May. Nothing? Ok, well put xxx in the diary then.

Haven't managed to look at either Blackburn or QPR match highlights recently, which has the most clueless defence? Blackburn have conceded more goals but putting aside the thrashing at the emirates they are on par with QPR.

Ok, it’s very rare that I ever ask for advice but I’m struggling with a few decisions this week (most of which probably equate to choosing between 1 point or 2!) Any input welcome, reasoned advice especially appreciated 🙂

    Given (CHE) vs Vorm (tot)
    Moses (STO) vs Sigurdsson (tot)
Senderos (NOR) vs Shawcross (wig) vs Skrtel (new)

Obviously if Moses doesn’t recover from injury and Senderos remains out of favour some of the above is academic.

Oh, and no need to mention that my team is obviously cack - I’m well aware of that! 😉

Last season "Always play Shay Given at home" became an adage of mine after missing out on his biggest scores by trying to be clever. Tottenham will almost certainly score so that's a no brainer IMO.

I think a number of people have adopted "Always play Vorm" as their mantra this season though and Villa are basically rubbish.

Not rejecting your advice, just trying to play devil's advocate and get the thought process flowing 🙂

That's the way I've got it set up at the moment but have a horrible feeling I'll regret benching at least one player.

Worth doing Enrique > Verm and Mata > Valencia for a hit? Only other hits this season involved chasing Nani's points which wasn't a good idea, but this would leave me much stronger for GW34 and potentially pay off instantly, especially if Mata is benched away from home again.

Very little mention about Stoke for the DGW but they've two home games against Everton who've they kept CSs against in their last 2 home games and against Arsenal who they've beaten in 3 of their last 4 home games. Stoke also have the best fixtures pre-G34 and post GW-37. GW31 and GW32 look nice in particular.

Transferred him last week for Rooney 😀

Not 100% what I would do if I still had now and was looking at keeping or downgrading. Seems to have been an opinion he could be worth giving 1 last game tomorrow, as he's still on pens even if he is playing a more withdrawn role and has still been playing quite well (I believe).

Keeping for 8 more GWs. Imo he should have scored both of Papiss' goals last time. First one he just couldn't reach (1 mm short) and second one would've been his goal if a defender hadn't fouled him.

I've both Silva and Dempsey; I'm giving Silva one more week (as I said last week!). Dempsey would offer you short-term potential, but Walcott's fixtures are far stronger in the long-term. Much depends on your plan for GW34 (Demps with no fixture) and how many you'll have playing.

Cheers. Walcott has better fixtures but just have a feeling that Dempsey will score this week and he`d be a nice differential in my mini league. I`ll probably have 11 playing GW34 so that won`t be a problem but would like to give Silva one more week too...difficult choice.

Opinions would be appreciated on defence order, please.

Vermaelen, G Johnson, M Richards starting.

    1st sub Kelly, 2nd sub J Evans.

My reasoning is as a Utd fan I don't think Utd will keep a clean sheet and J Evans attacking stats are unlikely to continue.

G Johnson I would fancy to get attacking points probably if he plays against Newcastle, "maybe" a clean sheet if Liverpool play a very defensive game. He probably won't play, BUT got to put in the team incase.

Kelly I fancy for a clean sheet, so choice between him and J Evans in sub order is important for me.

        Not 100% on that.

Feel I have to take the gamble though, as it's a clean sheet and maybe attacking points potential in that game.

Will probably get a 2min sub appearance though 🙁

He's on his way, just been low priority given recent injuries in defence they have had (but has also meant lack of clean sheets).

It's hard to estimate if a hit is worth it. For example, I took a hit to get Vermaelen in last GW. If I hadn't I would've played simpson (2pts) so I made nothing points wise in one GW.

But now I'm one week ahead of my transfer plan because if I wouldn't have made the transfer last week for a hit, I'd use my this weeks transfer to get Vermaelen in. Also, I saved some money because Verm has been rising in price. It's a cumulative thing how taking a hit affects your team and overall points.

For all those "Don't bother planning for the doubles" types:

I'll continue to plan to get XI out in gw34 and have a good few doublers for gw36 without taking a hit and you continue to live week to week.

Even with the inevitable unforeseen circumstances, surely the planner will have an advantage?

I'm not meaning to be an obnoxious pr1ck btw, and I'm not saying I have all the answers, but I really do think some forward planning is of serious benefit in this situation.

Plus I love my spreadsheet and this gives me an excuse to tinker with it all day while "working". So let me have my fun, you big bullies.

    Friedel
    Kelly | Richards | Evans
    Bale | Moses | Valencia | Dempsey
    Rooney(C) | RVP | P.Cisse

Subs: Bogdan / Siggy / Enrique / Caulker

Caulker isnt available, I’m pretty sure Enrique will conceed at Newcastle and Friedel is more likely of a CS than Bogdan. Only real issue, is it right to bench Siggy? I know people have been burned by this before, but Spurs away I dont expect Swansea to do much, only problem is if they do something its likely he could be involved?

Read this story earlier. What a f*cking imbecile. Not only are people stupid enough to listen to what the Tories have to say, they precede to queue in a sheep like fashion outside petrol stations filling up like crazed idiots on fuel they don't even need causing motorists who genuinely need to fill up to be stuck in 20-30 car queues and for what? The hysteria and panic has lead to fuel shortages not what they speculated would be the cause.

And this idiot woman has resorted to handling fuel in her own home. Absolutely retarded. Scaremongering stupid people into doing stupid things.

It's obviously a few weeks off yet, but just looking at the DGW in GW36 and Chelsea's fixtures obviously stand out both for defensive points and attacking points but WHO is there to pick from considering they have Champions league/Possible FA Cup games around the same time?

Two good prospect I agree but surely both have a massive chance of rotation. Drogba not certain to play over Torres and Mata looking very tired plus he will definately play all the big games so more than likely won't start both the DGW games.

I think getting the right Chelsea players could be key in that week.

    Hey guy's.

Do you think it's worth doing Gerrard to Wallcott? Free transfer.

    Cheers.
