As one cup competition edges towards the finish line, the Paddy Power Cup VI is just getting into gear. Some 512 Fantasy managers pitted their wits against each other in the Gameweek 30 first round and here are the results.

Four of our five previous winners safely negotiated a passage into round two – donnelyc defeated jon13597493 61 – 50, Jonty ran away a 46 – 38 winner against Mull, Ninja_Fit_Saints breezed past Marvellus 54 – 40, and reigning champ sleepingmaster dismissed Tommyboy 58 – 52.

Missing the grade was Paddy Power Cup III winner, Gooner dave, who succumbed 50 – 46 to ralphypne.

On to the second round, and the full set of 128 fixtures can be viewed right here.

Aside from Jonty, Mark and myself (Akers 41* – 41 07warrel – casual) are the sole Scout representatives still in the competition, and have pulled out of the hat Sheffield Rules and Fenners respectively.

All ties to be played across the upcoming Gameweek 31. Good luck to everyone with a fixture this weekend, and commiserations to those leaving the competition at this stage.

Should we be aiming for 9-10 players for 34 then take a couple of hits in 35 and 36 to get lots of doublers in ? Or try get 11 for 34 and damn how many hits we have to take as they will all obviously pay off handsomely 😉

i'm aiming for 11 for 34, and can physcially do it without taking any hits, but will have to take a hit after that for the doublers

8 minimum for GW 34 and try to get atleast 8 for DGW 36 if not more.

I dont quite agree with this. 10 minimum of GW34. Also with GW36 its important to have your DGW's however dont discount other players based on there single fixture. Look at Drenthe in the last GW. One good fixture outways 2 poor ones in my book i.e. Caulker > Kelly for instance

Kelly is not a DGW material. I am talking of guys like Mata,Ade,Bale,Gerrard,Suarez,BAE,Cahill, Miyaichi and others.Surely these 8 will easily outscore the single GWers' .

Cahill and Gerrard - rotation risk, Miyaichi - DGW but fiztures not great (Siggy and McClean could easily outscore him).

I think it simply comes down to league position. If you are chasing, you need to gamble and take the hits. If you are already in a strong position however then a more risk averse strategy is called for imo.

    My Current Backline
    Vorm
    Cahill, Kelly, Evans(Raylor, Rangel)

Fairly happy with Cahill+Evans as nailed on for me, but which is best play this week for most points

    Vorm + Kelly
    Vorm + Rangel
    Vorm + Raylor

I'm leaning on Vorm + kelly, since its lower risk if SWA feck up again'st TOT. What are other people thoughts?

I did this same transfer a couple of days ago (before yesterday's announcements) to beat the Ba price drop. However, if you're struggling to field a team for GW34 i'd transfer him out for someone else who's actually playing - maybe Graham.

REPOST! Seeming as I have been giving advice, probably rubbish advice for the last 15 minutes I deserve some now 😛

    Team for this gw;
    Howard
    Evans Richards Shawcross Skrtel
    Bale Miyaichi Valencia
    Rvp(c) Rooney Ba

    Subs: Vorm Siggurddson McClean Simpson

The list of transfers I wana do to prepare my team for gw 34 are Skrtel/Shawcross/Richards -> Turner/Caulker/Vermaelen. And maybe McClean -> Walcott.
Gonna keep Howard because he should have a dgw on 36 also correct?

Out of those transfers, Skrtel -> Vermaelen would be the best one to do this week! Good plan for now?

Lesson I've learnt from last two GWs is: never play 4 at the back (had Sigg and then Demba Cisse as first sub, both scored 16 pts in respective GWs while Liv defenders I've doubled up on - 1 pt).

I'm also considering Skrtel -> Vermaelen or Enrique -> Sagna / Gibbs up until GW35/36 and then get CHE or TOT defender.

Yeah thats what I will do. Could even get Bainesy also for the dgw but I think it wil be important to have one Spurs and one Che also. Wouldnt be sure which Def to drop then? All 4 of them are capable of scoring also which is a good bonus. Think I will chance playing 4 at the back and cry on your shoulder if it goes wrong! Thanks for the reply.

I think it's between Shawcross and Skrtel for Sigg, but I do agree that these defenders have a decent chance of scoring a goal. Wait, but that's what I counted on when playing Skrtel as the 4th defender :).

Weird as it might sound I do think Spurs have missed him. I don't rate him particularly but he's quick and was in good form, suits their system well and his injury meant they had to play players out of position to fill his place.

Other way round I feel actually. Lennon being there gives Walker more freedom to bomb forward when Lennon covers - Kranjcar and VdV don't cover Walker and Modric drifts centrally if he's put out there.

Hmm it doesn't seem that way watching the games (especially Chelsea/FA Cup games recently)
It looks like VDV drifts in more (like Bale) and Walker pushes up that right a lot more whereas when Lennon plays he seems to hog the right side

    Vorm
    Richards Evans Kelly Enrique (Santon)

Morning lads. Any advice for this team? I think it looks OK for 34 with a few transfers up until then:

    Schwarzer (Mignolet)

    Skrtel, Simpson, Evans, Vermaelen (McAuley)

    Valencia, Sigurd, Dempsey (Morrison, Surman)

    Suarez, RVP, Rooney

1FT 2.5 in the bank. The player I want to get rid of the most is probably Morrison, but not many mid-price alternatives. The team isn't the best for this GW imo, not sure what to do...

I know sometimes it's good to plan out future transfers but imo, it's kind of pointless.

Players will go in and out of form, some will get injured and more often than not, loading your team up with DGW players that you wouldn't normally have in your team could ruin your season.

That said, it could also save your season.

That's what's worrying me slightly, seeing him come off early a couple of times. At the same time, Santos isn't very good.

Do we know if Koscielny is fit and if he's straight back into the team if he is? Can just afford him as well and rate him quite highly this season.

Blimey just looked at my opponent MFaulkner's (Ukraine) team...its excellent, yet he has only made 6 transfers ALL season... he must have a crystal ball. How has this been achieved?

Someone made a good point earlier, the DGW36 fixtures are, apparently, right around the CL semi-final/FA Cup final time. So possible rotation galore for the likes of Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea & Spurs. I think I'll just cross that bridge when I come to it (points hits galore).

    1 FT in 33 gives me a full 11 for 34 and 2FT's in 35 sets me up nicely for 35 and 36 (with 6 DGW-ers).

any more than that and i risk compromising my squad for the rest of the season.

Thanks, I've got Sess in but placed MCclean on the bench last week.....gutted!

To play both I would have to drop either Dempsey, Valencia or Bale which isn't going to happen!

Sorry this is a bit of a long one, but here are my plans leading up to using my WC in GW36. Any obvious flaws or does it look solid enough?

    GW31
    Ba > Adebayor
    Shotton > Assou-Ekotto

    Krul (Mignolet)
    Skrtel, Evans, Assou-Ekotto (Caulker, Simpson)
    Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sigurdsson (McClean)
    RvP, Adebayor, Rooney

    GW32
    Save transfer

    Mignolet (Krul)
    Skrtel, Evans, Caulker (Simpson, Assou-Ekotto)
    Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sigurdsson (McClean)
    RvP, Adebayor, Rooney

    GW33
    Skrtl > Kompany

    Krul (Mignolet)
    Kompany, Evans, Assou-Ekotto (Caulker, Simpson)
    Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sigurdsson (McClean)
    RvP, Adebayor, Rooney

    GW34
    Simpson > McAuley
    Assou-Ekotto > Sagna

    Mignolet (Krul)
    Evans, Caulker, Sagna, McAuley, Kompany
    Valencia, Sigurdsson, McClean (Dempsey, Bale)
    RvP, Rooney (Adebayor)

    GW35
    McClean > Miyaichi

    Krul (Mignolet)
    Evans, Caulker, Kompany (Sagna, McAuley)
    Dempsey, Bale, Valencia, Miyaichi (Sigurdsson)

Can anybody help, don't know what to do:

    Vorm
    Vermaelan, Evans, Simpson (Rangel, Bardsley)
    Bale, Valencia, Walcott, Dempsey, Sigurdsson
    Pogrebnyak, Roonpig, RVP

Don't know who to leave out? All could be possible scorers in Midfield and Forwards.

    Right, I've got:

    Hart
Simpson, BAE, Jevans (McAuley, Jose Enrique)
Re-Coker, Demps, Bale, Siggy (Morrison inj)
    Van Persie, Welbeck, Ba

Serious defender crisis here. Am thinking Jelavic will sneak one at Everton so keeping Simpson on (as Liverpool will no doubt score). Simpson more likely to get forward and assist as well over JEnrique.

    Right team do you think?
