As the April 8 amnesty draws near, there are now just three names sitting in wait of the Damoclean sword that will seal their fate. With just one Gameweek left to negotiate for all our protagonists before the bar is raised to 15 yellows after Sunday, our trio are nearing the end of their uncomfortable journeys.

Having successfully come through losses at QPR and Wigan respectively without cautions, long term incumbents Laurent Koscielny and Ryan Shawcross will move on to their weekend match ups as the Easter schedule heats up.

Shawcross welcomes Wolves to the Britannia and need to stay on the good side of Mike Halsey, whose yellow card average is amongst the lowest in the league (2.38 cards per game but no reds in 16 previous fixtures). Koscielny entertains Manchester City at the Emirates in Sunday’s final showdown and will be keen to stay out of Martin Atkinson’s notebook; Atkinson already blinks on our radar as a flasher of reds – he has pulled out a table-topping eight in 24 games this year and also has an above average yellow count (3.33 per game).

Joining those previous two faces for company on this final week rollercoaster is the QPR captain Joey Barton. Booed by his own fans following a poor display in the win over Liverpool, Barton took to the programme at the weekend to call for some unity ahead of the difficult run. Never one to miss an opportunity, he also responded on the pitch with an improved performance and a ninth yellow card in the win over Arsenal – more representative of the Barton we’ve been accustomed to seeing this year – and earned himself a place on the high wire. Barton’s fixture is another tough one as he takes his QPR team to Old Trafford and a date with the current league leaders, but with Lee Mason at the helm of this one (2.65 yellows per game and no reds in 20 previous fixtures) Barton may be relaxed about the chances of reaching the suspension limit.

Finally it’s away from the potentials and on to the immediate bad boys, and while Djibril Cissé continues to serve his time, It’s the unlikely shape of Pepe Reina who goes to join him on the naughty step. Guilty of an attempted head-butt in the loss to Newcastle, Liverpool’s Spanish stopper gave referee Martin Atkinson little choice than to add to his reputation, even if the theatrics of recipient James Perch were a little on the dramatic side. Reina will now sit out the next three games for the Anfield club, with Gameweek 32 and 33 followed by the FA Cup Semi-final against Everton. Brazilian Doni will presumably step in to relive José Enrique for that spell.

GAMEWEEK 32 BANS

  • Pepe Reina (LIV) – 1 Red for violent conduct (first of 3 matches)
  • Djibril Cissé (QPR) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 4 matches)

    Besiktas manager Jack(off)Attack has expressed his delight with his teams efforts to advance into the Europa League finals, describing the sides group campaign as 'enjoyable, yet a little bit easy'. His team blitzed through the group stages winning 5 of the 6 games and finishing 6 points clear of second place Dynamo Kiev, destroying group favourites Dynamo Kiev both home and away, as well as the double domination of group bottom dwellers M Tel-Aviv in the process. A minor blip in a somewhat controversial away loss to Stoke was the only hiccup in Besiktas' surge to the finals.
    The manager remains confident going into the finals, when queried who he would prefer to face out of the remaining teams in anticipation of the upcoming draw, he replied "It matters little, whoever we draw will just be another little step on our staircase to glory." When further asked about the strange benching of star goal-scoring midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in the sides recent victory over Stoke, Jack(off)Attack immediately stormed out of the press conference.

        Besiktas manager has vowed to never ever ever ever bench Sigurdsson again.
        Rumours are flying around that striker RVP and Rooney are unsettled as Sigurdsson has apparently been given better treatment by coaching staff and that he was even rested this week for the rough finals campaign.

        With Ezequiel Garay, Jardel and Miquel Vitor all out injured, it is likely that central midfielder Javi Garcia will fill in. Veteran playmaker Pablo Aimar is well rested after missing the weekend win over Braga through suspension.

    Villa defenders are a bit expensive, no?

    GW33
    Dempsey > Walcott

    GW34 (2FT)
    Simpson > ???
    Skrtel > Verm

    Mignolet (Krul)
    Evans, Caulker, Verm, Turner (Skrtel)
    Valencia, Sigurdsson, Walcott, McClean (Bale)
    RvP, Rooney (Adebayor)

    GW35
    Walcott > Dempsey

    Chucking money away by doing the Walcott > Dempsey thing (which also stops me from having Bolton cover without taking a 4 point hit) but he looks essential for WIG and then a DGW after whilst Walcott looks essential for the 2 games previous. So unsure of what to do at the moment.

    I have my wildcard but might be going without any GW35 DGW coverage.

        City (52.9) - conceded 3
        Spurs (48.5) - conceded 1
        United (43.5) - clean sheet
        Chelsea (39.1) - conceded 2

    Am thinking of getting him in for Ronaldo and using the cash to beef up defence or mid.

        Goal.com is predicting this, and they are usually quite accurate

        Casillas
        Altintop, Pepe, Varane, Coentrao
        Granero, Sahin
        Callejon, Kaka, Ronaldo
        Higuain

          I lost u when I saw goal.com and accurate.

          P.S. Jose's word: "There won’t be many changes on the lineup. The only one who played in Pamplona and isn’t on the list is Arbeloa. The rest have been called-up to play. Pepe is here with me because he will play. It is a Champions League match and we have a very good aggregate. Very few believe APOEL will score four goals at the Bernabeu, but football is football and we must respect the crowd expecting a good football match, and we must especially respect our opponent. There will be few changes and what matters to us is reaching the semifinals."

        Verm is my problem, I do not think Arsenal will keep a CS though and with Kompany back it'll be much harder to get anything past that backline. That said, if Sunderland can do it at the Etihad...

          If you have Vermaelen, not starting him at home at the Emirates is madness..

          If I had him, he'd be starting 100%.. Even above my other defenders (Evans, Cahill, Skrtel, Caulker)

    Right....I could really do with some advice regarding my plans.

    Regarding GW34-36. Currently it's as follows:

    Krul Vorm
    Enrique BAE Simpson Evans Kelly
    Bale Dempsey Valencia Sigurdsson Walcott
    RVP Rooney Ba

    I have 2 free transfers and I was going to carry out the following:

    GW32= Kelly>>>>McAuley
    GW33= Ba>>>>Mario
    GW34= Simpson>>>>Turner
    Dempsey>>>>Sessegnon
    GW35= RVP>>>>Adebayor
    GW36= McAuley>>>>Baines
    Mario>>>>Sturridge (4 point hit)

    All of the above allows me to have 11 players for GW34 and 7 DGW players for GW36 at the cost of 4 points.

    What do you think?

      DO NOT SELL RVP

      Lose Ba instead.

      My main concern is De Gea, to sell or bench in DGW (it would be for Howard)

      I think it's very well thought out. I just tried to plot my way though the next few weeks myself and found that my head hurts already! Only got 8 playing in GW34 and i think i'm going to struggle to field 11 whatever i do so if you've already achieved that and got DGW players i think you're well set. Especially at the cost of just 4 points

      Kelly > Caulker is better than McAuley

      Ba > Mario could work out great

      Simpson > Turner makes sense for GW34 only as Simpson has a DGW coming up? But I guess you want Xl for GW34.

      Dempsey > Sess = 🙂

      RVP > Ade makes sense GW35

      Baines in for the double is ideal.

      Wouldn't take a hit for Sturridge. Ever.

      i have a similar team

      krul mingo
      kelly simpson caulker skrtel evans
      demps bale siggy walcott valenciia
      rvp ade rooney

      my plan

      gw 32 - save
      gw 33 demps and simps to yaya and komp
      gw 34 - save (and field 10 because id rather have an extra dgw with that transfer than use it on a def in 34 who will only get 2 points)
      gw 35 walcott to demps
      gw 36 yaya and valencia to mata and barfa

      gives me 10 for 34 and 8 for 36. no hits.

      Reina is a quality keeper so it would make there defense worse. But Doni is a very good replacement. At one point he was one the top keepers in Italy and got called up to national side.

      Dont know about agger though.
