With their city rivals making a statement at Carrow Road yesterday, the Sunday Dugout Discussion opens to see if league leaders Manchester United can hold their nerve and restore a five point lead at home to Aston Villa. It’s the only Premier League game taking place today, and the team news for the encounter is in…

Man United XI: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Young, Welbeck, Rooney.

Villa XI: Given, Hutton, Collins, Baker, Lichaj, Bannan, Ireland, Clark, Gardner, Weimann, Agbonlahor.

As expected, Sir Alex Ferguson restores Paul Scholes to his starting line-up in place of Ryan Giggs. There’s also recalls for Rafael and Danny Welbeck, with Phil Jones and Javier Hernandez dropping to the bench.

Alex McCleish is without the injured duo of Stephen Warnock and Chris Herd, so there are starts for both Gary Gardner and Ciaran Clark.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and will remain open the duration of today’s football, including the FA Cup tie between Tottenham and Chelsea.

    athevroy says:

I’m picking Aguero. He plays further up the field and I think Tevez is still an uncertainty. When fit, Aguero has been the only striker that has been nailed on for City.

Tevez also likes to drop quite deep and I see him scoring less than Aguero in fantasy terms for the remainder.

I think that Tevez plays (or at least played the last game) very similar to Rooney when he drops deep.

But if you are chasing a lead Tevez is a yummy prospects.

    Those are my thoughts anyway.

BTW, I think Roonster will score from a penalty today.

Scholes cracks me up. He manages to be the best midfielder in the country by just doing the following 100 times per match: makes himself available to receive short pass, turn through 180 degrees, complete short pass.

He rode the first challenge outside the box well and then felt the same contact in the box and his legs sprung apart, only my opinion.

Slight contact, threw himself to the ground. In no way was it a natural fall, hence dive.

See how easily he skipped over the 1st tackle because it was outside the box, then when he's in the area he was looking for it.

Why does Young do that, it genuinely annoys me. There was contact but not to fall like that, maybe enough to be felled but why TRY to fall? Otherwise it would be a stonewall penalty 😕

No, I'm saying if that contact had brought him down fairly it would be a penalty but because he fell on purpose then that's foul play on Young's part. Just stay on your feet unless you physically can't!
