With their city rivals making a statement at Carrow Road yesterday, the Sunday Dugout Discussion opens to see if league leaders Manchester United can hold their nerve and restore a five point lead at home to Aston Villa. It’s the only Premier League game taking place today, and the team news for the encounter is in…

Man United XI: De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Young, Welbeck, Rooney.

Villa XI: Given, Hutton, Collins, Baker, Lichaj, Bannan, Ireland, Clark, Gardner, Weimann, Agbonlahor.

As expected, Sir Alex Ferguson restores Paul Scholes to his starting line-up in place of Ryan Giggs. There’s also recalls for Rafael and Danny Welbeck, with Phil Jones and Javier Hernandez dropping to the bench.

Alex McCleish is without the injured duo of Stephen Warnock and Chris Herd, so there are starts for both Gary Gardner and Ciaran Clark.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom can be accessed right here, and will remain open the duration of today’s football, including the FA Cup tie between Tottenham and Chelsea.

RVP captainers never fear. After witnessing Wigan put up top class performances against Chelsea and United, Arsenal will be treating them like a top 4 team. Cue a RVP field day 🙂

It's short sighted by Young. Players who get a reputation for diving eventually get less decisions going their way. Its' not like United weren't overwhelming favourites for this game anyway.

      Thats an utterly ridiculous suggestion.

Just because United were favourites the penalty decision doesnt matter and hasn't changed the game? I'm hoping you dont't mean it like that

No I mean there was still most of the game to go and United would probably have won without resorting to diving.

          Well we can't know that

You would say even after Wigan scored the other day United would have 'probably' gone on to equalize

Whats most frustrating as a United fan is that these wins we are getting from contentious decisions are papering over the fact that our squad is not nearly good enough hence why we struggled in the Europa League

If we actually had the bad season and finished 3rd there would be big changes and players bought

but if we win the league with such a young team i dont think he will as he will say they can develop into a top team

When in actual fact we would not even be within 15 points of City if things hadnt gone our way and against City

On the subject of diving, why don't FIFA, UEFA etc have a committee that checks and evaluated these dives, rolling on the floor, play acting incidents? Then they could give out warnings, fines, bans or whatever. As long as they can prove it to a certain degree.

BBC sport guy makes valid point

Its for the rule makers to stamp this stuff out

If I'm Ashley Young I've provided my team with a strong chance of going 1 up, regardless if its morally wrong.

    Harsh to single him out

Fines and suspensions after games are the only way around it

Suspensions without a shadow of a doubt. Suspensions > Fines IMO.

Then they get more hassle from managers and will have a bigger impact. Seriously needs to be stamped out before a player stamps on Young's face for continuing to dive.
