With just four Gameweeks left of the season, Fantasy managers are looking at every viable option available as a means to climb up the rankings and win that crucial mini-league title. Many will be throwing caution to the wind at this point in order to claw back their rivals’ leads and, with plenty of double Gameweeks on the horizon, even Aston Villa’s assets are coming under scrutiny.

Let’s face it – the midlands outfit have hardly been the most potent of Fantasy sides this term. The fact that Gabby Agbonlahor is still their top scoring player despite returning a single assist since Gameweek 11 speaks volumes for their insipid season. As the likes of Wigan have recently shown, however, there’s potential near the bottom of the table as teams scrap for survival and, with two home clashes in Gameweek 35, Villa are blinking – albeit briefly – on Fantasy managers’ radars ahead of the weekend’s schedule.

The hunt for options amongst the midlands squad leads us to James Collins. A look at his recent home performances highlights the fact that the Villa centre-half has returned at least six points in two of his last three at Villa Park – a clean sheet against Fulham and a goal against Chelsea. While Villa may have shipped four at United last weekend, they’ll be more optimistic heading into their games against Sunderland and Bolton – Martin O’Neill’s side have failed to score in their last three, while Bolton have been almost as poor in attack, with no goals in their previous two matches.

So far this week, over 10,000 Fantasy managers have taken a punt on the 5.3 priced defender, an indication of the faith held in his potential. Collins’ game also seems suited to the EA SPORTS PPI scoring system; he’s picked up a total of 12 bonus points over the course of the campaign – only six defenders have earned more this term.

With regular sidekick Richard Dunne still out with a collarbone injury, Collins’ resilience and will-to-win in the heart of the Villains backline will be key over these next crucial two matches. McLeish will be more than aware that back-to-back victories would all but clinch their survival and somewhat endear him to the home faithful, thus relieving the pressure ahead of their remaining three fixtures (wba, TOT, nor).

Dempsey or RVP. Certainly not the other two.

I too have it on Dempsey now but I recognise that feeling in my gut which is going to force me to change it to RVP in the end.

Summary of Newcastle news from Alan Pardew's statements to the local press:

On Krul's injury: The United manager said: “Tim had a little spasm in his back, we didn’t see a problem with that. It should go away. If not, Robbie Elliot will play and Robbie’s been absolutely brilliant in the background here. In some ways I wouldn’t be against him playing so if I think Tim is in any doubt, he won’t play.”

Meanwhile, Sylvain Marveaux is the shock name in contention for a place on the bench against Stoke. Pardew confirmed he had “a chance” of playing on tomorrow – while Cheick Tioté, James Perch, Danny Guthrie and Gabriel Obertan are all back fit.

So it boils down to captain then.......
Aguero @ Wolves - cricket score, or shock home win?!
Rvp v a very tired and rotated Chelsea - but no Arteta pulling the strings
Dempsey v Wigan - usually a no brainier, but Wigan are in form. Will it end?
Valencia v Everton - against an ageing right back, playing on the left
Cisse v Stoke, Newc going for 3rd/4th Stoke not much to play for, but can he keep the scoring up?

+1 Wolves are shocking. And Hennessey out it easily could be a thrashing. I'm not saying De Vries is a bad keeper but defenders usually do much better with a consistent keeper to communicate with.

I'm a little worried about Arsenal sans Arteta too - he's like their Scholes, not flashy or super-creative but keeps it all moving, Ramsey doesn't do that...

When you outline the pros and cons like that, it comes down to Cisse or Aguero... but I always regret taking the armband off Dempsey.

      I haven't helped, have I...

Na I think Vermaelen has to play. Not seen a CB as likely to score as him before. He just wants to score goals! I can see heavy rotation from Chelsea causing Arenal less problems at the back and Verm is looking great for goals atm.

Verm for me. Liverpool's defence has been leaky and WBA are unpredictable, Wigan look like scoring in every game they play. Don't actually fancy a clean sheet from any of them so Verm's goal threat swings it.

    has anyone looked past gwk36?

just had a quick look at it and guna be tough i think. swansea (utd, LIV) and sunderland (ful/UTD) have poor fixtures. most on here probably have 4+ of these players.

then newcastle have a tough final two of (MCTY, eve) with most having 2+ of their players

then u have fulham who go to spurs on the final game and most own dempsey and/or kelly

thats most squads with 7+ players who have poor fixtures to end the season, chuck in the fact that utd city arsenal MIGHT have nothing to play for come gwk38 (maybe even 37) and there could be problems for a lot of squads

It's that last week or two when managers rotate wildly once there's nothing to play for that cause the trouble isn't it? If Man U have secured the title there's an excellent chance that Evans, Valencia and Rooney will be rested - will be a pain in the backside that's for sure.

Playing my WC next week but even with that luxury I'm struggling to feel secure with my selections!

probably shift siggy the week after and just keep mclean to be bench fodder

I think the advantage of the wildcard comes, not from having your pick of double game week players, but also being able to plan for the last two. Spurs, arsenal and everton have very nice fixtures in the last two. I would probably get 3 from each of them (bench the arsenal players)

Yeah Tosey, I have looked at this a lot and planned (roughly) who I will play each week.

By doing Cisse to Aguero GW37 & Dempsey to Lampard/Mata GW38 my team looks solid enough.

I just need to pick the right Chelsea defender who will play both fixtures in GW36 but also against Blackburn in GW38 and im sorted.

Swansea are a worry because of fixtures and Rodgers talking of rotation. I think Caulker is a big risk as he took Monk's place who's club captain so he'll surely see some game time.
I reckon Monk will start ahead of Caulker in GW36 and other gameweeks. Monk and Williams have played very effectively together a good bit already this season.

Marveaux being fit again is good news for us. He will be important for us next season. He is the only real quality back up we have in the squad. The likes of raylor, williamson, perch, guthrie, obertan, best and ameobi are ok squad players, if you are a mid table team (which we were expected to be at the start of the season), but aren't exactly champions league quality!! We need to buy decent back up in pretty much every position in order to compete. Hopefully we don't have to sell tiote to help fund it!!

Our first 11 is good enough right now to challenge for the top 4 (with the addition of maybe a top class full back instead of simpson). Our squad players, are no better than mid table (at best). Pardew really has performed miracles to get us to were we are, with the squad that we have. Its not like we have even been that lucky with injuries and the like (saylor and marveaux missing most of the season, barfa being half fit for the first half, only one striker for the first half of the season, no strikers and midfield for the african nations cup). It would be difficult for him to perform the same miracles again next season, when all of the other teams are going to strengthen

I think if you qualify for either the Europa or even Champions league that you won't spend too much and will also sell your important players if the right price comes in. Ashley has already said that he is willing to sell players for the right price.

The main problem is that you have a great scouting team that have plucked some real gems out for next to nothing but I think Ahsley thinks this can keep happening, when in reality it won't.

But yes I agree, your starting 11 is very good, but the rest of the squad are poor.

You need another CB of better quality. Another Full back of better quality and some wingers IMO.

One winger would be fine, as we have marveaux. We will defenitely get a CB and FB in the summer. We also need a striker, as both the dembas will be away for the african nations. And quality cover for tiote. That would just about do it!

I think that it is all about balancing the books. We won't spend beyond our means. IF we qualify for the champions league proper, that is a guaranteed 20+ million. That would be more than enough to fund the squad overhaul that we need, based on carr's record. So hopefully that would mean we wouldn't have to sell Tiote. Unless we receive a carroll sized offer of course!!

If the right money comes in though he's gone IMO. But also it's important to keep your other stars in Cabaye/Krul/Cisse/Ben Arfa. I think Ba will move on but you can cope with that.

I agree. But the right money means something over and above his perceived worth. I don't think we would take less than 20-25 mill for him.

It might not be so bad if Ba leaves. It would solve a problem of what the hell we are going to do during the arfican nations cup!! I hoep he stays, but wouldn't be gutted if he left

That touches upon one of my biggest concerns - Ashley becomes complacent about how easy it is to run a football club and thinks we can perform like this every year on a shoestring budget. I absolutely want us to operate within our means and actually think much of what he's brought to the club has been good, sensible business practice but there's a danger he starts trying to take it too far and asset strips too much in the summer.

Yep, it's mostly the squad players who need upgrading. To be fair they've done brilliantly when called upon this season but you just can't rely on them to perform like that regularly. Even with Champions League qualification I couldn't see us splashing the cash too much, it will be more of the same - accept a big offer for one or two of our established stars and reinvest the funds in less well known players. Hopefully Liverpool will give us £25m for Lovenkrands 😉

I expected Tiote to be snapped up last year to be honest, I thought he'd have been perfect for Chelsea. I guess the Ba situation depends on a few things - whether this release clause really exists, how happy he is now he's no longer the main goalscorer, whether we can find a suitable replacement...

One of the key things that's changed with fans attitudes is that we're beginning to understand the strategy a little more so as long as we get a good price and we can see the reinvestment the majority will be happy.

Right guys - I'm all over the place here. I really need help this week....

I have 2 free transfers (hate to waste them) so please tell me who to change. Struggling to chose the captain too.

Am about 7k overall and top of my leagues but the gap has shrunk a lot in recent weeks and need to do something about it. One of my problems is I bought a lot of my good players cheap....

    Selling price included

    Mignolet £4.4
    Krul £5.0

    Assou-Ekotto £5.6
    Simpson £4.6
    Jose Enrique £5.2
    Caulker £4.1
    Evans £5.1

    Bale £8.5
    Valencia £8.0
    Sigurdsson £5.4
    Sessegnon £7.3
    Walcott £9.3

    Rooney £12.8
    Jelavic £5.8
    Van Persie £12.7

I feel that with 4 weeks to go, I shouldn't worry about having a good squad (which I like to think is the case at the moment) but concentrate on having a cracking first X1.

Please people, any feedback, thoughts, advice would really be appreciated - I'm struggling here!!!

So. Considering Valencia > Mata for DGW. I don't think he'll play more than one of their games but after that he has liv,BLA. I'm cool with that but is there any chance that he won't play EITHER game?
