Wayne Rooney grabs a double as United stutter in an eight-goal thriller with Everton. Nikica Jelavic and Steven Pienaar pop up on Fantasy radars ahead of the Toffees’ double Gameweek, Sergio Aguero notches on the road for the second week running, while Liverpool’s woeful league form continues with a home defeat by West Brom.

Wayne Rooney
Despite a run of eight goals in his previous five home appearances, the United forward was sold by more than 24,000 Fantasy managers ahead of yesterday’s clash with former club Everton. Rooney made them regret that move, bagging a brace (and the maximum bonus) against the Toffees to take his tally to 26 goals for the campaign, equalling his best ever Premier League haul. With many Fantasy managers now pondering a reshuffle of their front line ahead of double Gameweek 26, both Rooney and Robin Van Persie are the main men most likely to be moved on, though with Rooney scoring six in the last seven Gameweeks compared to the Dutchman’s one, the United man is clearly the man in form of the two. With his contribution key to his side’s chances of retaining the title, many will be thinking twice over selling him, with next week’s crucial trip to City followed by (SWA, sun).

Danny Welbeck
The forward picked up only his second double-figure points haul of the campaign yesterday, after scoring and providing a pair of assist against the Toffees. Welbeck has now overtaken Javier Hernandez in the Fantasy rankings – priced at 6.5 in comparison to the Mexican’s 9.9 he has proven to be a decent cut-option and is the top-ranked United attacking player in terms of value over the course of the season so far.

Nani
Having climbed off the bench to notch against Villa last time out, Nani was handed a starting role against the Toffees, with Ashley Young only making the bench after picking up a knock against his former club. The winger served a reminder of the form that saw him last season’s top-scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player by grabbing a goal and a couple of assists in yesterday’s 4-4 thriller – a worrying sign for Young’s 10% Fantasy owners, with the Portuguese star staking a strong claim for a starting role on the left for next Monday’s visit to the Etihad.

Nikica Jelavic
Yesterday’s brace at Old Trafford is set to get the bandwagon roaring ahead of Everton’s pair of upcoming fixtures. Priced at a bargain 5.9, with an ownership of under 3%, the Croatian looks an outstanding differential candidate ahead of the home game with Fulham and trip to Stoke. Jelavic has now scored six goals in six starts for the Toffees and, with a match away to Wolves in Gameweek 37, the schedule ahead looks more than a little kind.

Steven Pienaar
The on-loan midfielder continued his impressive recent form since returning to Merseyside in January with a goal in yesterday’s draw. Pienaar has now produced attacking returns in each of his last four Gameweeks, with two goals and three assists helping him average over eight points per game. The Toffees seems an altogether different side going forward with the likes of Pienaar and Jelavic in David Moyes’ first XI – they have scored 14 goals between Gameweek 30-35, equalling their tally from the previous fourteen matches. While Marouane Fellaini also caught the eye with a goal and assist contribution, Pienaar’s consistency looks the strongest route into the Toffees midfield with the double Gameweek in mind.

Everton Defence
Moyes sprung a surprise in light of Leighton Baines’ hamstring absence, naming Sylvain Distin at left-back, with Phil Jagielka and Johnny Heitinga in the centre of defence. While Tony Hibbert picked up the points with a pair of assists, it’s worth noting that he had provided just two over his previous 27 appearances, suggesting he’ll struggle to replicate such form. At 4.6, nevertheless, he looks a decent cut-price route into a defence that had conceded in only one of their previous four, prior to their visit to Old Trafford.

Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez
With many expecting a Molineux goalfest, the pair were each drafted in by 70,000 Fantasy managers ahead of the trip to Wolves. In the end, Aguero’s owners had to settle for a single goal – his fifth in the last three Gameweeks. The 2-0 win, combined with United’s draw, puts City’s title bid firmly back in their own hands – three wins will almost certainly now clinch the title, given their superior goal difference to United’s. With this in mind, owners of Aguero have a real dilemma ahead of the double Gameweek – given that he’s failed to produce attacking returns in just two of his fourteen Etihad appearances, there’s every chance he’ll get amongst the points against United in a week’s time and, with a trip to Newcastle followed by a home clash with QPR, the potential for points looks promising as City go all-out for points. Tevez picked up an assist, bringing his points haul to 31 since returning to the first-team in Gameweek 35 and surely looks likely to continue against his former club next week, with suspension-free Mario Balotelli likely to be consigned to the bench.

Samir Nasri
While David Silva failed to flatter and lasted just 58 minutes, the former Arsenal man clinched victory with his side’s second and picked up the maximum bonus. Nasri has cemented a place in Roberto Mancini’s first team over the past few months, missing only one of the last nine games due to injury. His recent home form has taken an upturn – with a nine point return in each of his last two at the Etihad, he could be an overlooked differential over the remaining three games, with those two home fixtures against United and QPR to follow.

Peter Odemwingie
West Brom may have only scored two goals over the last couple of Gameweek, but the Nigerian has played a significant part. Odemwingie grabbed the only goal of the game at Anfield as Roy Hodgson recorded back-to-back 1-0 wins – he also provided the assist for Graham Dorrans last time out in the home win over QPR. While the Baggies may be safe from the drop, they are proving to be a reliable source of points and, with Villa and Bolton up next, are afforded further opportunity to produce before a tricky final day home clash with Arsenal.

Liverpool Form
With Daniel Agger back in the starting line-up, Kenny Dalglish rolled out his first-choice back-four for the visit of West Brom, suggesting rotation may not be his main concern ahead of the double Gameweek and FA Cup Final. The likes of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll also started, with the Reds boss confirming Steven Gerrard missed out altogether as nothing more than a precautionary measure. Their woeful league form continued, though, and, with one clean sheet and two wins in the last 10 Gameweeks, many Fantasy managers will be reluctant to load up on their assets ahead of the upcoming pair of matches against Norwich and Fulham.

Anyone in need of differential favouring Sturridge for a DGW 36 punt?

He'd look good for GW38 too, with Chelsea possibly still chasing a Champions League/UEFA spot (assuming they don't win the CL this season)

Ball greedy waste of space imo. Seemed to flourish at Bolton with a central role and was probably the best player in the team but he looks terrible just now.

I'm not sure there are any - none of the current must-have players have a DGW. Tottenham players like Bale / VDV would have been except they are so off form

Cisse the one potential exception, although I'd still expect RVP, Rooney, Aguero (maybe Tevez) to outscore him over the next 3 GW's

I tell you what guys, I love this site and there are some great hints and tips that have been shared although I cannot help but think that every decision is scrutinised so closely and previous history, opta stats etc. we have lost the "gut feel" on transfers!

All about the gut feel for me. Fall back on stats when I need something to pick between two 'gut feels' (!) Fixtures is the one that's majorly over-leaned on here IMO... Maybe this season more than ever where there's been a genuine 'anyone can beat anyone' and teams coming up who have a real go. Form of players and picking players on the cusp of great form has been the difference this year.

Aye you might be right. It depends on the stat for me though. There are some I'll take no notice of.

Such as when Aguero hadn't scored in an away game that wasn't in the capital. Fair enough not scoring well away, but only scoring in the capital is a complete coincidence and has nothing to do with anything.

POP QUIZ: Chasing rival (70pts) has Bale and Walcott. I have Nasri and Walcott.

    Would you:

    1) Block him: Walcott > Bale
(Knowing he can do Walcott > HBA/Pienaar/Mata/VDV

    2) Block him: Walcott > Bale
AND do Nasri OR Miyaichi > Mata OR Pienaar
    -4pt

    3) Block him: Walcott > Bale
    AND Nasri > Mata
    AND Miyaichi > Pienaar
    -8pt

    4) Ignore Bale and go your own way

    5) Secret Option No.5 (please elucidate!)

ignore bale would reckon you need to make up at least half difference this week, you cant do that with same players, even if bale produces you would still be 70 points behind, which would be hard to make up after this week

The top 4 teams are 16pts apart, I am 4th. Following a 4pt hit my team is as follows:

    BOGDAN / mignolet
    BAE / jevans / ENRIQUE / caulker / KELLY
    BALE / PIENAAR / DEMPSEY / Valencia / surman
    CISSE / JELAVCIC / rooney

I think rivals ATM are fielding 4-6 DGW players, I have 9 – 8 not including Kelly. I am tempted to do 1 more hit as a gamble but what?

    Cahill** Riise** Assou-Ekotto** (Evans) (McAuley)

Ben Arfa** Valencia Dempsey** Petrov** (Sigurdsson)

    Cisse** Van Persie Rooney

My critical issue is do I ship out Van Persie or Rooney for the DGW? Jelly may come in.

He's done well yes, but I wouldnt get too carried away, the team are probably managing themselves pretty much, like they did under Grant, look what he did, but no one said he was a good manager. The players probably treat RDM like a pushoever that's why they probably like him. AVB had his own mind and ideas and the 'old guard' and their horrible egos didn't embrace his style and theories so didn't try for him. AVB will go on to win stuff I have no doubt about that.

Thanks everyone. The advantage of Pienaar over Van der Vaart for the DGW would be that I'd then have enough money to go Jelavić => Rooney in GW37 while keeping Everton representation (Pienaar) for the Wolves match.

If I bought the more expensive VdV, however, I could only get Rooney back in by selling Papiss Cissé. Not sure I want to do that.

As an Ade owner I will certainly not be making any early transfers this week. Seems the rumors have legs and will likely keep RVP and sell Ade instead for Jellyfish. Makes the agonizing decision a bit easier but guttered that I may have to transfer out a DGW player having kept during the barren run 😡

Hi guys. Quick lunchtime post. Does this look good ?

GW36.........Suarez to Jelavic, Brunt to Pienaar, Walcott to VdV (4 point hit)

    Schwarzer* (Szczeny)
    Caulker, McAuley, Santon* (Richards, Evans)
    VdV*, Dempsey*, Pienaar*, Sigurddson (Valencia)
    RVP, Rooney, Jelavic*

My GW37 transfer will be Richards to Vermaelen or Baines and a GW37 team that looks great.

    Any thoughts? Thanks as always

I'd play Wojciech over Schwarz...Stoke couldn't hit the proverbial cow's ass at the minute, so good chance of a CS. Schwarz probably concedes in both games imo (Liverpool had 30 shots on goal yesterday, you'd think that one of their over-priced donkeys could bag at Anfield if they repeat that performance).

      But otherwise - very nice

Thanks Riddler. With Shwarzer save points...do you not think he is just as likely to get 3+3 as Szczeny is getting 6?

I thought I'd be going transfer mad ahead of this DGW but I think I'm in a good position:

    DGWers:
    Krul
    Simpson, Wheater
    Bale, Petrov
    Pogrebnyak

Then I could quite happily play McAuley (AVL), Vermaelen (sto), Sigurdsson (WOL), Valencia (mci), Rooney (mci), RVP (sto), Silva (MUN), with Evans my only definite sub.

    How about:
    A) Silva + Valencia out, VDV and Pienaar in
    B) RVP + Valencia out, VDV and Jelavic in
    C) Just one transfer
    D) Save the transfer

Got one free and 1.5 in the bank

Pienaar in for Walcott and bench Vermaelen? I think I'm benching Vermaelen on the basis that he'll have a tougher time than normal getting anything from set pieces against Stoke.

Very tempted as a differential in my ML, but v risky. I've dumped Bale, not convinced by any spurs player at the mo.

Cisse prob sensible option for my team, but Mata and JT interesting choices

I feel that people on here are getting carried away with this DGW. Very few (if any) players are players that people would be looking at getting in if it wasn't for the extra game, and people seem to be forgetting that there are another 2 GW's after this.

E.g. Spurs players: team are totally off form, Newcastle: poor fixtures, Everton: they are Everton, Stoke: ditto, Liverpool: totally poor and will rotate, Chelsea: will rotate, Bolton: no explanation needed

I am bringing in one DGW player (Bale probably) because I think I should, but the others I just happen to have anyway:

Dempsey: he's been great, obviously keeping
Skrtel - hangover from last DGW and getting rid has not been a priority (leeson learnt!)
    Simpson: had him forever
    Krul - ditto
    HBA - on great form

I think that Cisse and HBA are the only two DGW players with a compelling case to get in due to their form but even then, there is the fixtures issue.

    Is this just me?

Nope, I've had the same thoughts, but regardless of form, I still think Spurs' fixtures and the points scoring potential in their team is tough to ignore. Pienaar and Jelavic are good options too, even if they might struggle to get anything at Stoke, they still have FUL and then wol in GW37.

Another thing is that nobody knows what will happen in the Manchester derby, I expect both teams to score, so Rooney, Aguero, Tevez, Valencia, Silva are all reasonable options if you've already got them, RVP is always capable of scoring, and lots of people have Sunderland (BOL) and Swansea (WOL) players, who they will be perfectly happy to field.

Everton are indeed Everton but their attack is blossoming - 4 against Sunderland at home, 4 against United away. They have very score-against-able fixtures for DGW and beyond

Possibly, although I don't see many goals in Everton's DGW fixtures personally, whereas I think the Manc derby could have goals in it.

If teams like United, City and Arsenal had a DGW I'd be all over it but they haven't and the teams with the best potential DGW's are either off form (Tot), rotating like mad (Chelsea) or have a tough fixture list (Newcastle)

Throwing a crazy thought into this mix. For the DGW noone is talking about Drogba. Two home games and depending on Tuesday night's game they could be busting everything for that top four place. Opponents are QPR and Newcastle, two toughies, but isn't every game now?

    Am I mad?
