Having hoovered up 13 goals and nine assists from the Spurs midfield last season, Rafael Van der Vaart placed himself firmly in the heavy-hitter bracket. Spot-kicks and set-piece delivery, coupled with a goal threat that few, if any, midfielders can better, he delivers a package that warrants a hefty outlay. Predictably, however, the Dutchman has failed to maintain the consistency demanded of a player with an initial price tag of 10.0 this term.

Van der Vaart’s dairylea hamstrings are the concern. Once again his season has been blighted by twinges and twangs, with constant reoccurrences disrupting his pitch-time, along with more recent calf and ankle injuries. Subsequently, his campaign has been limited to 24 starts: a chain of 11 appearances being his best run of games. Harry Redknapp also appears to remain skeptical on Van der Vaart’s fitness, having subbed him off on 16 occasions so far this term.

Therein lies the problem. Van der Vaart would seem set to start both of Tottenham’s Gameweek 36 fixtures with relegation threatened Blackburn and Bolton, but is unlikely to record 90 minutes in both. Nonetheless, from his support role alongside the awkward talents of Emmanuel Adebayor, Van der Vaart is well capable of inflicting damage and fetching returns given an hour on the pitch.

Having delivered six double figure hauls already this season, including four in five Gameweeks in a chain of 53 points in October, Van der Vaart’s potential to explode is obvious. Few midfielders can rival that and, looking at the fixtures, in addition to Tottenham’s undoubted motivation to attack and score goals as they pursue a Champions League slot, everything falls into place.

With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership of under 6%, the Dutchman also qualifies as an unlikely differential. Just the ticket for those looking to bridge a seemingly impossible mini-league deficit. If Tottenham do overcome their current malaise over their remaining matches, Van der Vaart could well prove to be the catalyst.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        bit of both.

used my 1FT to bring in a DGW player but the rest of my team look to have good/better fixtures than the other DGW options.

no one worth a hit IMO.

not excited about the EVE defence really. why Hibbert iso Baines?

already got Bale so VDV is not attractive enough.

already have Cisse and he gets the armband.

Captain Jela in that case. He and cisse are the most likely to get a haul. VDV could, but his hamstrings could leave you with a 2pt captain.. VDV is well worth a punt as a transfer in, but not as a captain.

    I hate this!

I support Tottenham, and Van der Vaart is my favourite footballer.

I had him through every single game of his golden run in October, but I can't fit him in now, at all, despite the fact this is probably the best GW all season to own him.

    Siggy HBA Dempsey Bale (Valencia)
    Tevez Jelavic Cisse.

Can anyone see any suitable way to bring him in? Or is it just not at all viable? Any transfers would be -4

Ok, I am well behind at moment so have to gamble. PLEASE can I get your opinion on whether this is a sensible move:

current mids and fwds are sess/val/silva/sinclair/petrov and rvp/tevez/ade
Is it worth chaning to pienaar/VDV/silva/sinclair/petrov and rvp/jelavic/ade for 8 pts?

I reckon all 3 could easily make up the 8 pts over their doubles. I know Silva is an obvious change but I need to take risk and make my team as different from his as possible. He has Demps.

    Would really apprecaite comments.

Depends on what your position is in your mini/private league

I have 5 DGW players and am looking at a 12 point hit (which us better than Sunday, when it came out in the wash as a 20-point hit!)

Midfield is OK but forward line is very Feb/March.

Cisse, Jellyfish, even Bucktooth are the ones to consider. Crouch even!

Defenders - everton, chelsea for turner, and is cahill fit/injured after Barca?

But if you;re leading your league you will want to hang onto RVP probably (Norwich home next week)

    BALE DEMPSEY sigurdsson valencia walcott

    rvp ageuro CISSE

possibly taking a 8pt hit to bring in pienaar for siggurdson or bringing in a DGW defender such as Huth jags or terry.

the guy on top has rooney aguero rvp strikeforce, pienaar cabaye bale petrov. he brought in peinaar and cabaye so far for a 4pt hit. i think he will make another change friday night.

    KRUL (vorm)
    verm - caulker - BAE ( turner - evans )
    BALE - DEMPSEY - HBA - siggy ( valencia )
    CISSE - JELAVIC - roo

8.8m in the bank with no FT left. which option should i do after BAE doubt ?

    1. keep BAE play & Turner as a backup
    2. do Turner > Terry or Jagielka & bench caulker
    3. valencia > ? ( worth for 2 gw punt ) & bench siggy
    4. others option ?

My plan for next season - go off this season's overall stats + any preseason that I watch... then after 4 games, start going off next season's form.

So I'll no doubt be in a similar position where I'm eager to Wild Card for GW5!

    Repost:

    Bogdan
    Caulker turner cahill
    bale dempsey barfa siggy
    rvp rooney augero

currenty have 5 dgw players but cahill is a doubt.

    1) Should i take a 4 point or a 8 point hit to bring 2 or 3 more players?
    2) who should i bring in and for who?

Who are your subs? One of that front 3 has to go if you want any decent options!

      Aguero -> Cisse/Jelavic & Turner -> Jagielka imo..

Hard to say without seeing your team and ML position. Bit hit and miss, but could be what you need or scupper your season.

Mata, VDV, or Cisse for armband? I've got no doubts (injury permitting) that all 3 will start both games.

You have no doubt? Chelsea have the FA Cup final soon after Newcastle - very plausable he'll play 1 out of 2.

      VDV is always injury-prone.

Cisse is the most likely to play the more minutes, but he's away to Wigan and Chelsea... both in form and Chelsea defending very well.

Agree. Mata has played so much football this season and now they're in the CL and FA cup finals.

I would have thought he plays the first game against QPR, and then depending on where Chelsea sit in the PL viz the 4th place, you could see an almost reserve team against Newcastle

It makes absolutely no sense at all that chelsea would play a reserve team against arguably their biggest rivals for 4th spot. Mata will start vs QPR as he was taken off early and rested vs arsenal and with Newcastle being such a big game he'll start then too. For me the newcastle game is more important than the fa cup final as chelsea could lose the CL final and if they're not in 4th they're not in the CL next season which would be a disaster!!

well as VdV barely makes 90 mins in any game... and he's only got 6 points in his last 3 games i wouldnt bet on him...

also don't see Mata playing both games... why are you so certain he will?

for me there is only 1 clear choice out of the 3 - Cisse...

      Ireland - done deal (Bale)
      Sess - prob not
Rooney -> Jelly - I've already done this!
Caulker has good chance of getting 6pts. Jagielka has a chance of 10pts (CS against Fulham, 50% chance against Stoke). Jagielka more playable in GW 37, but still away. Toss a coin. If in doubt, don't do it.

DGW players for me always get injured in the first game - Collins this time, Jagielka last time.
