Having hoovered up 13 goals and nine assists from the Spurs midfield last season, Rafael Van der Vaart placed himself firmly in the heavy-hitter bracket. Spot-kicks and set-piece delivery, coupled with a goal threat that few, if any, midfielders can better, he delivers a package that warrants a hefty outlay. Predictably, however, the Dutchman has failed to maintain the consistency demanded of a player with an initial price tag of 10.0 this term.

Van der Vaart’s dairylea hamstrings are the concern. Once again his season has been blighted by twinges and twangs, with constant reoccurrences disrupting his pitch-time, along with more recent calf and ankle injuries. Subsequently, his campaign has been limited to 24 starts: a chain of 11 appearances being his best run of games. Harry Redknapp also appears to remain skeptical on Van der Vaart’s fitness, having subbed him off on 16 occasions so far this term.

Therein lies the problem. Van der Vaart would seem set to start both of Tottenham’s Gameweek 36 fixtures with relegation threatened Blackburn and Bolton, but is unlikely to record 90 minutes in both. Nonetheless, from his support role alongside the awkward talents of Emmanuel Adebayor, Van der Vaart is well capable of inflicting damage and fetching returns given an hour on the pitch.

Having delivered six double figure hauls already this season, including four in five Gameweeks in a chain of 53 points in October, Van der Vaart’s potential to explode is obvious. Few midfielders can rival that and, looking at the fixtures, in addition to Tottenham’s undoubted motivation to attack and score goals as they pursue a Champions League slot, everything falls into place.

With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership of under 6%, the Dutchman also qualifies as an unlikely differential. Just the ticket for those looking to bridge a seemingly impossible mini-league deficit. If Tottenham do overcome their current malaise over their remaining matches, Van der Vaart could well prove to be the catalyst.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

OK - all help really appreciated here.

I have no FTs but have £1.4 in the bank.

I'm about 7k overall and am top in my ML by 10 points.

This is the team for next week - Caps for DGWs

    Mignolet

    SIMPSON
    BAE
    ENRIQUE

    BALE
    MATA
    BEN ARFA
    Siggy

    JELLY
    Rooney
    RVP

    Given
    Valencia
    Jevans
    Caulker

Should I be looking to bring in more DGWs or sub BAE for Gallas for a 4 point hit or would you save the points?

    Any comments extremely well received....

Make your comments horizontal rather than vertical.

Swap BAE for Huth not Gallas, Totts are poor lately and Huth is a huge goal threat.

      Rest looks good.

Yeah, good spot, you're short for keepers in 27&38 - Cech if you can afford him, otherwise Howard.

VDV is just over 16k, he needs to be 20k. That's according to FISO.
However, I am forgetting transfers made by people in non-UK time zones. So maybe VDV will have gone up by the time I log in tomorrow.

    Current team to play:

    Vorm
    Verm Simpson Kelly
    Dempsey Sigurdsson
    RVP Cisse ©

Evans Valencia Lescott Walcott McClean Tevez

    Any suggestions? Thinking:

    Walcott – > VDV
    Valencia – > Ramires
    Tevez – > Jelavic

Valencia vs VDV is the only iffy one. Pretty sure he won't play 180 mins, and he might not even get more than 120. Plus, if Man U lose and the title might go down to goal difference, you'll want Valencia for the last 2 weeks.

    Current team is thus:

    Bodgan (Mignolet)
    Caulker, Vermaelen, Simpson (Cahill, Evans)
    Sess, Siggy, Walcott, Dempsey (Valencia)
    Rooney, RVP, Cisse (c)

I have 2FTs and 1.9m in the bank. I'm prepared to take a 4pt hit, but I really can't decide between....

    A) Pienaar, Bale & Mata (for Walcott, Sess & Valencia)

    or

I'm captaining him. Everton have good form, he does too Additionally. Fulham away from home aren't amazing, and Stoke are looking fatigued.

The bad feeling is probably coming from him not being a 'big hitter' which is always makes the player seem a weaker choice.

A player that has something to play for. Just worried with Moyes. Never any team news, rotation when least expected. Maybe it's just that EVE has never in the last couple of years has a decent striker that could score goals.

It's just that even if Cisse has tougher fixtures on paper I would feel more comfortable captaining him then jellytots.

    Reasons for Cisse as captain:

An away trip to a hard fighting Wigan side could be boom or bust for Cisse. Conceding 8 goals in their last 8 games, and only conceding 1 goal in their last 3 home games, it would seem that Wigan have bolstered their defense recently at the DW stadium. However with Cisse's impressive 10 goals in his last 11 games he may profit considerably (also Cisse has only played a full 90 minutes twice with this record). Next up is an away trip to Chelsea. With Sturridge, Kalou and Drogba scoring at the Sports Direct Arena last time, it seems likely that the majority of these three will start for the second game, so defensively for Newcastle, it could be tough. However it is notable that Chelsea's defensive record isn't prolific - 10 clean sheets, 5 of which came from home. With Ivanovich set to return against Newcastle, and possibly Cahill and Luiz still out, Chelsea's defense could pose some threats to Cisse.

Having asked around the general opinion is that Distin is first choice as is nailed on to play both games. Apparently this is not the case with Jags and he could even be rotated out with Moyes going with a back 4 of Hibbert, Heitinga, Distin and Neville. The fact the he missed the Sunderland game ahead of the semi-final proves he is first choice. Thus he is a safer bet.

I know. Just be careful with Distin, is all I would say.

              I wouldn't get him.

Just consider that distin also missed Sunderland and WBA game. If Neville/Coleman goes LB then distin could be slightly at risk to jags and heitinga.

No idea why he missed WBA. he missed Sunderland due to the FA Cup semi, indicating that Moyes sees him as his most important defender. He played lb to try and counter Valencia. Heitinga is probs the most at risk IMO.

What about hibbert? I want an everton defender too but moyes has too many options at his disposal.

I agree with Distin as the best choice in the Everton defence too, if I were to go for anyone it'd be him

Jagielka was dropped from the FA Cup team at Wembley. This was one of the reasons we looked poor defensively. Moyes alluded to it after the game and it's been said by a lot of fans on Toffeeweb.

He's first choice, has been all season bar injury. I'd prefer him in everyway to Distin - who can be a liability (Liverpool's first goal for example).

    Morning all

Chasing a 60 point deficit in my big money mini league. Planning Sess out for Bale or vDv, and Rooney or RVP out for Jelevic and -4 this week to give me 8 DGWers. Guy I’m chasing only has 5 playing twice at the mo (obviously expect him to transfer at least 2 in) Do they sound like decent moves to you? Cap Jelevic as a differential?

Also, does anyone have a link to this 80 man Olympic squad list? I want to see who is on there! Personally, for the 3 over age players I’d take Joe Cole, Bellamy aaaaand probably Scholes. What say you?

    Pienaar/Osman for Valencia

If it hadnt been for Spurs awful form and the fact that Bale might play as a defender, he would have seemed to me like the obvious captain choice this week?

I think Rose will play at full-back. Spurs need to win and need Bale's attacking threat. VDV seems the best captaincy pick this week as I can't see an obvious worthy captaincy candidate from Chelsea who will play both games with the Cup Final a few days later. Perhaps Terry is the best pick from Chelsea as you know he will play in GW38 now, but he's not a better captaincy pick than VDV.

If you was on a wildcard would you get rid of Siggy for DGW player? Wolves is a great fixture but after that Swanseas fixtures are not good.
