Big. Huge. Game. It’s here – the Manchester derby, the title decider already billed as the biggest clash in the twenty year history of the Premier League. How’s that for hype? Can tonight’s Etihad clash really measure up? We have our Dugout Discussion chatroom open to catch all the excitement, or lack of, as it unfolds.

The team news perhaps already tells a tale. City, content with their recent outstanding form, go with an unchanged lineup which means no place for Micah Richards who returns to the bench alongside Mario Balotelli, straining at the leash.

Sir Alex Ferguson, perhaps going all out to avoid defeat, shuffles the pack with Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck benched for the experience of Ryan Giggs and the industry of Ji-Sung Park. Phil Jones replaces the loose cannon that is Rafael at right-back, while Chris Smalling is called in to partner Rio Ferdinand. Those reports on Jonny Evans’ injury seemingly checking out, then, as United’s rock in recent weeks is kept sidelined.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This week has killed me. Started the week 20 pts clear (after hits), which I thought would give me a slight advantage over my rival who was on a wildcard. Kyle walker, VDV, and captain jelllyfish for him and I am now 14 pts behind. AND he has 11 players to play again, to my 8.

To make matters worse, I was supposed to get terry in for turner, but my finger slipped and I got rid of Kompany instead. I wouldn't have played him this week, but really needed him for the last two.

I would really appreciate it if you can check out my team, and see what moves I can make. My kompany out move means I have loads in the bank, so can get in whoever I want.

Was going to get in RVP for Dave, but my rival has him so not much point. Rooney in instead?

Tricky one... cause he might just as easily bring Rooney in for Cisse anyway...

depending on whether he plays & scores against Newcastle... maybe Torres instead... and then maybe a punt on a Wigan midfielder too (Moses/Maloney)...

whatever you do, if you're gonna pull this back and win your ML you wont do it by playing safe

Hi doesn't have the money to do dave -> rooney, so he would have to take a hit.

Torres might be interesting if I knew he was going to play all the league games.

I don't really want to take any hits, as there are not enough games over which to gain the points back.

Your team is pretty good, just a wrong caption choice cost you your lead in ML. Don't take a hit now as you are catching up. Just get in a good defender, Ridgewell for this week maybe to replace Caulker, for his attacking potential and WBA have shown they are hard to score against. Get the captain choice right the next GW and you're leading again.
Although this GW isn't over yet and Cisse could easily explode against a reserve Chelsea side. So good luck.

Cheers. So you think forgoe Rooney and RVP, and just get in a defender? I would have the cash to get in Big Verm for Turner.

If I knew that my rival wouldn't get in rooney, and would get him in for dave for sure, and captain him. But my rival is pretty sneaky, so I can see him taking a hit to get rooney in to block me. But I would be very scared going into next week without RVP or Rooney.

You may take a hit to bring one of the strikers. (Although I prefer Aguero)
But you need to have 3 defenders who can give you the CS points. The hit would be a punt, it could work well for you but may as well hurt you, so its upto you really to bring in a striker.

EA Sports PPI has only 3 defensive players in its top 20.

    Does this mean:

    a) Football's biggest contributors to success are the offensive players.

    b) Defenders in EPL are generally on a lower level.

    c) The PPI is askew.

    d) other reason

Guessing the PPI is loaded in favour of attacking players, but you could argue that they are the more skillful players too 9 times out of 10... a pinch of both b..& c...

more skilful perhaps, but there are other factors than mere technical skill (if that's what you mean) as well imho

I guess my point is that the PPI should value a defender's, defensive midfielder, winger and striker's contribution equally

that being said, it might have been a year were more offensive player's have prevailed and thus the defensive player's ratings have suffered directly because of that

Anyone else see City choking again after doing the hard work again? They had it wrapped up a couple of months back and choked big time. Fair play to them, they got it back on track and should go on to take a well deserved first PL title, but New(A) fighting for CL and QPR(h) fighting for survival are not easy games. I think they may well bottle it again; 15/8 for MU to win it could be worth a few quid!

Not necessarily; if Tot didn't get win against Bol(A) then it's still wide open. Even if they did there'd still be s chance, but if New don't get some sort of result from Che, then mentally I think they'll be done.

No bench points and Valencia gets 1 point cameo. Had I had known Fergie was not planning on starting him I would have shipped Surman out for Fellaini or Bale and benched Tony V and played one of them instead.

Oh well, captaining Cissé didn't help either.

            Me too.

Question is are United going to be up for it for the rest of the season? Judging by what we've seen over the last few weeks I'd say no.

They can still win the title as both their remaining games are winnable. However, the goal difference is too great for them to claw that back, especially as City will probably put 7 or 8 past my lot on the final day of the season.

They need City to drop points and the only game you can realistically see that happening is at Newcastle.

So, I'm no sure who to get in anymore.

same dilema over captain. I usually go with the player that plays second if there is the chance. RVP plays on the sat, rooney on the sunday. Sunday could be uncomfortable if RVP flops. Plenty of time to make this decision tho!

Last season I finished just outside top 5k, and lead mini-league from start to finish, but this year has definitely been more fun and satisfying despite lower ranking.

    Afternoon all

So, it was Manchester City 1 Damp Squid United 0. Surprisingly poor performance from the Reds - Fergie treated the game as if it were an away Euro tie whereas City were far more attack-minded than I'd expected. Mancini won that one and well-done to him and his team. Great stuff.

Right then, what's the best front 3 for this week, with the caveat that the Newcastle/Chelsea result could see the Toon with no chance of CL next year? RVP, Piggery and Cisse? The first two and Aguero? Klasnic, The Yak and Di Santo?

Yes, RVP Roon and Jelly seems the best on paper but it would just feel wrong somehow swapping Cisse for Jelly. I really can't imagine New vs City being a low-scoring game like last night- win or lose I'm sure the Newcastle boys will be far more aggressive than that strangely passive United team.

City have a very good defense which I why I think it could be tight. Hope you are right and it's a high-scoring affair.

Seeing 3 of your midfield still have a game along with Jelly, not a great move if injuries occur.

The point is VDV,Bale or Pienaar could get injured & you could have sold them instead. If your budget is tight then that's understandable otherwise waiting was the best option.

I have exactly 0.0 in the bank haha.

I always wait for transfers, waited an entire week to put Terry cause he had the game at Camp Nou.

Forgetting the timing of the transfers, do you think they were good moves?

barring injuries/suspensions in the coming days (and JEvans being fit), i don't have any pressing transfers to make:

    Krul
    Kaboul, Verm, JEvans
    Valencia, Demps, Pienaar, Bale
    RvP, Jelavic, Rooney

    Mig, Siggy, McAuley, Caulker

only slight concern is Krul (MCI). how about > Al Habsi for the next two (bla, WOL)?

also an option but not too enamoured with doubling up on TOT defence. would give my keepers two tough fixtures in GW38 Friedel (FUL) and Mig (MUN).
