Danny Welbeck is struggling to make United’s final two games with a badly bruised ankle. Tony Pulis blames squad fatigue as Stoke stumble towards the finishing line. Kenny Dalglish admits his host of changes against Fulham may have been an error, Alex McLeish rules out hopes of a Darren Bent comeback, while reports suggest Alan Pardew may switch to 4-4-2 against Chelsea this evening.

Reports suggest Danny Welbeck could be sidelined for United’s final two games of the season. The forward left Old Trafford wearing a protective boot on his ankle on Monday evening, following a challenge by City’s Nigel De Jong and was sent for scans yesterday to ascertain the damage. While the prognosis was positive, it’s thought that Welbeck has suffered heavy bruising to his ankle, making him a doubt for Sunday’s game with Swansea and the final day trip to Sunderland. Javier Hernandez looks poised to replace him in the first XI, with fit-again Michael Owen set for a call up to the first-team squad.

Kenny Dalglish has shouldered some of the blame for Liverpool’s dire home defeat by Fulham yesterday evening. Having watched his side hammer Norwich last weekend, the Reds boss made nine changes to his first XI with the hope of offering squad players a chance to impress before Saturday’s FA Cup Final with Chelsea, but his side failed to hit their stride and fell to a fourth defeat at Anfield in the last five. With a league clash at home to Chelsea next week, Dalglish slammed last night’s display and application, admitting his raft of changes were, upon reflection, not the best idea:

Their attitude was not right and if you get a bad attitude you are going to get a bad performance and that is what we got. I am culpable as well as I changed a lot of players to try to give everyone an opportunity to get in the frame for Saturday. I suppose by doing that it was a contributory factor to what happened but you can only be fair. I tried to be fair and give everyone an opportunity – maybe I was wrong. We cannot play at that tempo, we have to play at a quicker tempo than that. We deserved nothing.

Tony Pulis has admitted his Stoke side are suffering from fatigue as the season draws to a close. With his side 1-0 down midway through the second half in last night’s game with Everton, the Potters boss threw on three substitutes and within two minutes, Stoke had drawn level. Pulis revealed post-match that the switch, which saw him replace front pair Peter Crouch and Jon Walters, was purely down to tiredness amongst his first-team regulars, with the club’s European exertions starting to take their toll on certain individuals:

I just felt Crouchy and one or two of them looked tired tonight. It was always a case of giving Rory an hour and then bringing him off because he hasn’t played for a while. I just felt it was right to do. Jon Walters has had a long season. This is 54 games now.

Angel Rangel hopes to recover from a freak hamstring injury in time for Swansea’s trip to United this weekend. The right-back missed out last Saturday in the 4-4 draw against Wolves after sustaining the injury while carrying his 18 month-old son down the stairs but revealed he hopes to return to training today ahead of Sunday afternoon’s visit to Old Trafford.

Reports in the local press have suggested that Newcastle may switch back to 4-4-2 for tonight’s trip to Chelsea. With defeat at the Bridge, coupled with a Spurs win at Bolton, likely to end their chances of a fourth place finish, Alan Pardew is allegedly contemplating the idea of pairing Papiss Cisse with Demba Ba once again, in order to get more from the latter. Ba has now gone eleven games without a goal and is clearly ineffective on the left, though Pardew revealed he is relaxed about the worst scoring drought of the forward’s career:

He is a strong person. There’s nothing I can do (about his goalscoring). The chance will come and Demba will either take it or he won’t. I do know one thing, and that is that he was a big player in the second half for us on Saturday. In all fairness, we should have scored two goals in the second half and I was pleased with him. However, I cannot determine how he is going to score a goal.

Pardew may also have a selection dilemma at right-back to deal with. Danny Simpson is still struggling to overcome the knock that saw him subbed off towards the end of Saturday’s defeat at the DW – Simpson has been an ever-present at right-back this term; if he fails to make it, Ryan Taylor or James Perch are on standby to fill in.

Alex McLeish has revealed Darren Bent is out of Villa’s final couple of matches as the club battle to beat the drop. The forward has failed to feature since Gameweek 26 due to an ankle injury but McLeish admitted that, although Bent is on the mend, he’s still a while away from full fitness:

I said “Are you ready to go on the bench at the weekend?”. He said: “No, not quite, but I’m making good progress, so boss it might be too soon”. I don’t believe there is a chance of him playing again for Villa this season. The doc thinks he’s got a chance for the Euros though, so he’s talking about four or five weeks.

The Villa boss also went on to reveal that James Collins is a doubt for this weekend’s home game with Tottenham. The centre-half was on the bench for last Saturday’s trip to West Brom but has failed to train due to a groin problem – with Richard Dunne back to partner Carlos Cuellar, though, McLeish is happy with cover in central defence, with Villa chalking up two clean sheets in their last three.

Nigel Reo-Coker is winning his fitness battle to overcome a leg problem ahead of tonight’s visit of Spurs. The Bolton midfielder was forced off towards the end of last weekend’s draw at Sunderland with the injury but has responded well to treatment and is in line for a return. The Trotters are sweating on the fitness of Chris Eagles, though; the former Burnley man was taken off just after the hour mark at the Stadium of Light with a hamstring problem.

There is a good chance he might actually. We need to keep Cole wrapped in cotton wool for the CL finals. With Ivano back & Bose slotting in at RB, we might see Cole get rested.

Could easily turn out to be! That and Adebayor performing, sorry but I need him to do diddley squat. Yeah it's massive for me! I think there's a good chance that he could replace Cole but he wasn't even on the bench last game...so I'm not that hopeful.

Nani was poor on Monday, could easily start Valencia and Young.

      afternoon folks

thoughts on Cisse and McClean to Rooney and Maloney for -4?

Can do the Rooney transfer without a hit, but i don't fancy playing Siggy or McClean in the next 2, and Maloney is 0.7 cheaper than Moses and on pens and set-pieces.

      Would leave this for 37

      De Gea

      Evans, Verm, Jags

      Dempsey, Bale, VdV, Maloney

      Jelly, RvP, Rooney (c)

      Mingolet, Siggy, Santon, Caulker

Can then dump Clint to either Mata/Nasri/Silva in 38.

I have had a thought though.

I could save the transfer and do Cisse and Dempsey to Torres and Nasri in 38 for no hit?

So I shipped out Rooney for Aguero two weeks ago and then SHipped RVP for Jelavic this week.. Not bad going really but now I think I have to have RVP back for this weekend. my question is:

        Aguero>RVP

        or

        Cisse>RVP

        ???

Yes. Unless my mini-league goes badly tonight in which case I might have to gamble on going without RVP or a maverick captain choice, like Moses.

GW 37 (-4) Siggy and Poggy out.

        Kompany – Evans J – Kelly S
        Bale – MOSES – Pienaar – Dempsey (v) – Valencia
        VAN PERSIE (c) – Jelavic

        GW 38 (no hits)

        Ruddy

        Bale – Moses (v) – Pienaar – Valencia
        Van Persie (c) – Jelavic – AGUERO

              ^^^this^^^

Hits for defenders can only be justified if

              a) you don't have 3 defenders likely to play

              b) You're bringing in a defender in a DGW where the hit is easy to make up.

Disagree. There's a bigger risk it'll backfire, yes, but it can work out very very nicely. The 'never take a hit for a defender' type rule is nonsense.

I would take a hit for only 1 defender this week and that is Vermaelen. He took the most shots of any defender last week, is a constant threat for a team that wins many corners and Clean sheet potential.

Portal 2 and Skyrim only? You've missed out on some really great games last year! I'm a huge PS3 fan, want to play Portal 2 co op some time? I'm been dying to play it but there's no one to play it with. What's your PSN ID? Plus, if you enjoy gaming, you just HAVE to play Batman : Arkham City. My word, what a game.

I think it's Ciaran89. I don't have any console with me at uni, they're all back at home. Yeah I've heard Arkham City is great, never played the first one either. I'm kinda broke just now to justify buying too many games and would rather spend it on going out and trying to get laid tbh!

Can anyone here help me? Im wanting to bet a "handicap draw" on both Chelsea & Spurs games tonight. Therefore the bet wins if Chelsea win by a goal and if Spurs do the same. But there are two options, either Handicap draw (1.0) or Handicap draw (-1.0). How do I know which is the right selection?

I’ve got a major defensive crisis for next week which is messing with my transfer plans.

          Schwarzer (Cech)
Simpson (i). Evans (i). Vermaelen. (Caulker. Shotton)
          VDV. Valencia. Dempsey. Mata. (Sigurdsson)
          Rooney. Cisse. Jelavic

          Should I do:

          a) Cisse + Valencia > RVP + Moses

          b) Sigurdsson + Simpson > Moses + Kaboul/Hibbert (Better defence, but NO RVP!!)

          c) Vermaelen + Cisse > RVP + Gibbs. (A little sideways with Gibbs, but It’ll fund RVP in, and I don’t have to lose Valencia per option a)

A solid 2 mill. That money is banked up in Cech, my other GK. Sad times.

I like the look of (c) but the fact that it's a bit sideways is bothering me.

ok well b would be the best option, but wait for news on Friday.

If at least one of Simpson or Evans is not gonna make it, then go for a defensive. But how can you be 2 million short of Simpson to Hibbert? Are they not similarly priced?

RVP is almost 6 mill more than Cisse, and I have just about 4 mill banked... Hence.

Hey guys, bit of a selection dilemma for this coming GW, hoping you can all help me out. Firstly, here's my current team:

          KRUL (Vorm)
EVANS - VERM - Hibbert (Shawx - Turner)
Mata - VALENCIA - DEMPS - Hba (Siggy)
          CISSE - Tevez - Jelly

          Going to make 2 transfers for a -4 hit I think, and I need to make one of three;

          a) Cisse > RVP + Siggy > Moses

          b) Cisse > Roonpig + Siggy > Moses

          c) Cisse > RVP + Tevez > Roonpig

Which seems the best option? I have a really good feeling about Moses this weekend so I'd ideally like him in, but I'm just not sure.

          Thoughts?

Chelsea forums don't seem to think Ashley Cole will be rotated, DAMN IT. Really need Bertrand to come on, this is one of my H2H rivals, lucky lucky lucky boy:

I thought Bertrand would play in one of the DGW fixtures aswell. I think the QPR game was the most likely for him to play. Although tonights game is close to the final it's against a rival for a top 4 finish so Chelsea are out to win that.

RDM played bertrand away at Arsenal to rest Cole so regardless of the importance of tonights game, Cole could get a rest.

Some seem to think Mata will be rested, others think he'll get gametime. Most seem think Torres will start again.

Why would Bertrand play against Newcastle one of the teams who are fighting Chelsea for the top 4. Some people have zero logic on here. 😀

Is Rooney a must for this weekend?

I need to do two transfers to bring him in for Cisse with the second being a hard choice
