Antolin Alcaraz keeps Wigan in the Premier League with a dramatic late winner at Ewood Park. Jean Beausejour proves to be the key creator once again as the Latics chalk up their sixth victory in the last eight Gameweeks. Blackburn, on the other hand, are relegated to the Championship after another dire display:

Antolin Alcaraz
The Latics may been outstanding at the back in recent home games – their last three at the DW have seen clean sheets picked up against Stoke, United and Newcastle – but on the road, it’s been a different matter altogether. Roberto Martinez’s side had returned a single away clean sheet all season prior to last night, in their very first road trip at Swansea back in Gameweek 2. Alcaraz’s winner in the 1-0 triumph means he has now returned a couple of goals and four clean sheets in the last seven Gameweeks and, with the maximum bonus points in the bag, has averaged over 6 points per game over that period of time – more than any other player in Martinez’s side since Gameweek 31 onwards. His presence at the back is clearly vital – the Latics have seven clean sheets in the 25 games Alcaraz has featured in, compared to a single clean sheet in the 12 matches he missed through injury.

Jean Beausejour
The former Birmingham man has been a crucial component of the Latics’ 3-4-2-1 system since joining back in January. Beausejour has started every match from Gameweek 23 onwards and has picked up in consistency over the last few Gameweeks. Last night’s assist for Alcaraz’s last-minute goal was his fourth in his last seven appearances but, despite his recent form, a mere 103 Fantasy managers drafted him in prior to Saturday’s deadline – Victor Moses was snapped up by over 93,000 Fantasy owners in comparison. With the pressure now off, it’s basically a straight fight between Bolton and QPR to avoid the drop; Wigan, on the other hand, play host to relegated Wolves next Sunday and, given their outstanding run of form, more Fantasy managers will be turning to the Latics as the season draws to a close.

Yakubu
Blackburn’s Ewood Park blank was the fifth time in the last seven matches Steve Kean’s side have failed to find the net, with their over-reliance on the Nigerian’s goals proving their undoing. While Yakubu has netted 16 times this term, averaging 4.7 points per game (almost on a par with Juan Mata’s 4.8, for example) he has found the net in just two of his last 12 matches – with the goals drying up for the summer signing, only Junior Hoilett, with seven strikes all season, has stepped up. With confidence rock bottom and the fans venting their fury, a trip to the Bridge next Sunday could see plenty snapping up Chelsea’s assets as they seek to finish the season with a win over Kean’s beleaguered side.

    Cash mini-league going down to last day of the season. Leading by 10 points, rival has 2 frees, Rooney, Evans but no Cisse:
    I’ve got 2 frees as well, should I go
    A) Demps + Cisse -> Moses + Aguero
    B) Evans + Rooney -> Clichy + Aguero
    Lost a bit of interest in Wig now they’re safe, but lingering worry that Rooney ends the season on a high…

      Why are so many selling Bale? He's up against a Fulham side with nothing to play for and who're terrible away from home. Bale up against Damien Duff who's not exactly the best for tackling and tracking back at the best of times, never mind 3 weeks before Euro 2012.

      I'm thinking of doing that too but at the moment, I have Valencia, Sigurdsson, Bale and Pienaar starting at midfield so I guess it would be meaningless if I get Ramires in for Sessegnon. Unless I decide to bench one of these starters...

      Are you pro- or anti- picking a cheap midfielder who never/rarely plays?

      This year, the cheap(ish) midfielders did well e.g. Siggy, HBA, Dempsey, so money didn't matter too much which meant a decent 5th midfielder was possible for most people.
      Other years the expensive midfielders did well e.g. Lampard, Gerrard, Ronaldo, Fabregas, etc. so you needed at least one very cheap midfielder to afford the big boys.
      Next year, Siggy and Dempsey will be much more expensive than their starting price this year.
      I don't think you can have a motto of "Always have 1 cheap non-playing/low scoring midfielder" or "Always have 5 decent midfielders" because it depends on the year in question and whether there are high scoring cheap midfielders about.

          Well the managers are different. So lets take Ireland. Trappatoni's way of fielding and playing the team will be very different to the way each player individually plays at their main clubs (Sunderland, Villa, etc.). So a player might not be suited to Trap's way of managing but as soon as the PL comes back around he could play more suited to the PL or whatever league they're in.

      Hate the way Liverpool hide away their good players then sell them off. Like Meireles, Maxi, Pacheco, Kelly... etc.

        They didn't "hide away" Meireles, he was playing regular and Kelly hasn't been sold and won't be, he's still a young lad and still learning.

          Ok fair enough not Meireles but this year if he stayed at Liverpool he would've been a bench-warmer as we seen just before he was transferred to Chelsea. I personally think Kelly is better than Glenn Johnson and would be amazing at RB every week.

            Well yes he probably would have been or they wouldn't have sold him. I really rate Kelly and think he'll be a great player for us but Johnson has probably been playing as well for us recently as he's ever done, been very solid defensively and he's better going forward than Kelly but his time will come.

    Hi, I am 5 points ahead in our money league.

    My Team:

    Krul
    Caulker, Evans J, Vermaelen,
    Dempsey, Valencia, Moses, Van der Vaart
    Jelavic, Rooney, Van Persie

    Mignolet, Sigurdsson, Simpson, Turner

    1FT 1.1 in the bank

    Opponents current team (he has 2 FT and 1.1 in the bank)

    Krul
    Kompany, Jagielka, Walker
    Petrov, Yaya Toure, McClean, Bale
    Aguero, Van Persie, Cisse

    Ruddy, Sigurdsson, Jose Enrique, Taylor

    Options:
    1) J Evans -> Clichy
    2) Rooney -> Aguero
    3) Both for a -4 hit
    4) Other

    Not sure I want to take a hit as the league is so close.

    gw37 and ive finally cracked the bonus system! what they do is whoever has the most ppi goes into the hat 22 times, the second 21 times right down to the bottom ppi person who goes in 1 times! that means the person with the best performance is the most likely person to be chosen from the hat for bps but is not necessarly guaranteed! I'm thinking Huntelaar, his scoring record for them over the last year or so is awesome. Is he a definite starter for Holland?

      Also, has he been injured this year, I thought I'd heard something about him being injured earlier in 2012
