Liverpool avenge their FA Cup Final defeat with a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea. Ramires spoils the home side’s clean sheet, while Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey grab their first goals of the season against a much-changed Blues side, with rotation clearly a major part of Roberto Di Matteo’s thinking ahead of the Champions League Final.

Daniel Agger
The Dane returned to league action last night, having been rested for the previous game against Fulham. With Jamie Carragher slotting in alongside Martin Skrtel in the heart of defence, Agger took his place at left-back, as Jose Enrique dropped out. Agger continued his recent upturn in attacking threat by grabbing his first goal of the season in the 4-1 thrashing – the 5.8 priced defender has also contributed a couple of assists in his last five, compared to just a single assist over his first 21 appearances.

Liverpool Midfield
Kenny Dalglish sprung a surprise by leaving Steven Gerrard out of the squad entirely for the Blues showdown. A look at the results, though, shows the Liverpool skipper has been far from inspirational – the Reds have won just two of the 12 games he has started this term. Instead, Jonjo Shelvey and Jordan Henderson were handed the central midfield roles and the pair took advantage of an under-par and under-strength Chelsea by grabbing a goal apiece. Maxi – in his fourth start in the last five – provided an assist, while Stewart Downing was afforded the perfect opportunity to break his scoring duck when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Given the season he has had, however, it was no surprise to see his strike hit the post.

Luis Suarez
An assist for Michael Essien’s own goal maintained Suarez’s strong end to the season at Anfield. After disappointing for much of the campaign, he has now produced attacking returns in four of his last five home appearances and, with a hat-trick on his last game on the road, the Uruguayan will be in confident mood as Liverpool head to Swansea on Sunday – Brendan Rodgers’ side have picked up just one clean sheet in the last eight Gameweeks. Last night also saw Andy Carroll grab an assist – incredibly, this was the first time this season that both forwards have picked up attacking points in the same home game, with the only other occasions occurring in Gameweeks 7 and 10, away to Everton and West Brom respectively.

Chelsea Rotation Hits Hard
A look at last night’s team sheet highlighted just how much Roberto Di Matteo is willing to rest and rotate many of his first-choice players ahead of the Champions League Final. Only three of the starting XI who won the FA Cup Final against Liverpool on Saturday remained in the line-up; John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic and Ramires – no coincidence that the trio are all suspended for the game against Bayern later this month.

While Ramires grabbed a consolation to scupper the Liverpool clean sheet, the dire Anfield display will surely make Di Matteo think twice over sending out a similar side against Blackburn on Sunday. A home game against the relegated Lancashire outfit looks potentially prosperous for the likes of Juan Mata, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, though whether the interim Blues boss is willing to take a risk, with their Allianz Arena game six days later, is perhaps doubtful. Mata’s 8.9% of Fantasy owners will be particularly worried – he has started only one of the last five now, though still had enough time to provide four assists in 66 minutes against QPR in Gameweek 36.

    A) More likely to play sunday

I just can't see RDM risking any of them. Can you imagine, it only takes one bad tackle from a blackburn player and could rule a key chelsea player out. Do you really think he'll risk that when zero to play for?

Id say with 100% confidence they will both start against Blackburn and get at least 60-70 minutes and most likely 90 mins for Lampard.
My reason is that they best way to go and win the CL is to go in good form and good confidence so they will want to beat Blackburn and beat them well. Also with the amount of rotation they have had, they will need this game to keep up match fitness and sharpness. They will have a full weeks rest before the final so fatigue won't be an issue.
Add to all this RDM's interview after last nights match saying himself that they need a good win at Blackburn to go to Germany with confidence and when asked about Bayern playing their strongest team in their last game and will he play his at the weekend he did not give a straight answer but his body language pointed to yes.
This is just my opinion but I think it's the most sensible scenario, especially as neither played a single minute last night.

    snuffled from last post...

13 points off my league leader after last nights John Terry Horror Show.

He will Captain Aguero this week – I would have done if our scores were closer but 13 points is a bit of a gap, should I captain RVP as a gamble?

Or should I captain Aguero and hope the rest of my team can make up the points (we will have 4 starters the same, moses, RVP, aguero, valencia).

    Advice please - 11pts behind in mini-league & in final of H2H. Front 8 are :

Mini-League Leader : Bale, Demps, VDV, Valencia, Siggy, RVP, Rooney & P Cisse
H2H Oppo : Bale, Demps, Valencia, Miyaichi, Moses, RVP, Rooney & D Cisse
Me : Bale, Demps, VDV, Ben Arfa, Petrov, RVP, Rooney & Jelly

Am considering an 8pt Hit - Demps, Rooney & RVP for Silva, Aguero & Torres. What do people think ? One too many ?? (and if so, which one ?).......guess my main concern is the Torres for RVP one........do you think RDM will play Torres (even tho it's virtually certain that Drogba will be rested for CL Final)

*btw* The mini-league leader has made 1 transfer - but have worked out that it CAN'T be Aguero.

Lose Terry. The England camp hasn't been a happy camp for some years, and Terry has a big role to play in that. Not only a better environment for the team imho, but also potentially less disruptive to Hodgson as manager also.
Personal feelings aside, there are better options than Terry now anyway.
There are also probably better options that Ferdinand, but he should make the squad.

        Me:
        Cech
        Vermaelen / Walker / Hibbert
        Lampard / Mata / VDV / Moses
        Tevez / Aguero (c) / Holt

        Mignolet / Bale / Caulker / Evans

        Him:
        Vorm
        Lescott / Gibbs / N.Taylor
        Bale / Dempsey / Valencia / Petrov
        RVP / Rooney / Jelavic

        Mignolet / McClean / Evans / Simpson

he has a 27point lead. His team is a good team but, safe IMO. Mine has alot of punts to try and close the gap.

Alreet lads. I was wondering what you all expect the england line up to be for the euros. Nothing to do with the fantasy game. I'm just interested.

    Mine would probably be:

    --------------------Hart-----------------
    Walker---Terry---Lescott---Cole
    -------------Barry---Parker
    ---------------------?--------------------
    Walcott----------------------Young
    -----------Rooney/Crouch--------

I guess the question mark would have to be lampard or gerrard?!?!?!

Probably the worst england team since the days of carlton palmer!!

He keeps getting injured and will struggle to play that many games in quick succession. Walker has alot to learn but he has pace to burn and can keep up with any wide player they will come up against. I prefer Richards as a player but the injuries might go against him. Unless he takes both and rotates?

I think it might as u have it, with maybe Carrick instead of Barry and Rooney as the attacking midfielder with Wellbeck or whoever up top, like:

              -----Carrick Parker------
              Walcott Rooney Young
              ---------Wellbeck----------

Although Roy is a bit of a 4-4-2 merchant.

Vorm or Bogdan ( thinking Bogdan)
    Kompany Terry Hibbert (MaCuley Jevans)
    Bale Moses Siggy Cayabe (Demps)
    RVP Rooney Cisse

    A) Demps to Silva/Nasri ( bench Siggy or Cayabe)
    B) Cayabe to Ramires
    C) Change Cisse upfront?!

Don't think I can justify a hit this week. Want to hope Bale finally produces some class again and Cisse continues his streak.

I don't like John Terry and i'm a United fan but purely for football reasons Hodgson should take JT to the Euro's at the expense of Rio. Less of an injury risk, more of a leader for England and would naturally contribute to a more settled defence with Cole and probably Cahill in there. They should have set an example and dealt with racism case and JT's punishment before and not after the Euro's which is a farce but as things are now and it comes down to picking one over the other you have to go with the best option for England on the pitch.

I think whilst Everton still have a chance of finishing above Liverpool, Jelavic has to start. There's nothing to rest him for. Stracq is only a loan deal, and Moyes is happy to give him sub appearances. Anichebe and Cahill are more likely to play in the same side as Jelavic than ahead of him. He'll start.

think Aguero is enough man city attacking cover personally. QPR have to try and make it tight, otherwise Hughes's 4 yr plan might have to be an 8yr one....
How come you decided on losing Valencia over Demps? Think Sun will keep it tight as well?

    A) Dempsey - Nasri and Cisse - Torres (c)
    B) Dempsey - Ramires and Cisse - Aguero (c)
    C) Rooney/RVP - Aguero (c)
    D) Sort the shambolic defence and (c) RVP

Won my mini leagues so just looking to improve overall ranking - currently around 1,500 so just aiming to beat my 2009/10 best of 1,314

So are the thoughts on Chelsea players now out of the window, seens how they can't finish any higher up the table + have the Champs League final?

    Avoid altogether?

Problem is that game has 3+ goals written all over it...

Maybe ... will Chelsea play the final team as a warm up vs Rovers... or rest a lot of them... decisions.

Is it possible that Vidic will be a little cheaper next term after an off season?

Maybe 7.5m next season but more likely he is 8m again. So expensive.

He still got 5 PPG when he did play - not like he had a bad season just an injury ravaged one. Probably the same price or maybe 7.

For (c) or just to own? Will you only have 1?

Aguero 1st for sure. RVP worth having but not essential. Don't bother with Rooney.
