Ukraine continued their preparations for the upcoming Euro 2012 tournament as a 4-0 hammering of Estonia extended their recent unbeaten run to six matches. Scans confirm Dutch defender Joris Mathijsen has a hamstring strain, Kyriakos Papadopoulos is back in training for Greece, while reports suggest Slaven Bilic is already planning his side for Croatia’s clash with the Republic of Ireland:

Ukraine 4 Estonia 0
Oleg Blokhin’s co-hosts continued their recent good form last night, with Andriy Yarmolenko again impressing. According to the ESPN site, Yarmolenko lined up on the right and opened the scoring with his fourth goal in the last six matches; he also picked up an assist for a converted spot-kick after being fouled in the box – Oleg Husiev was the man who slotted home. Priced at 7.0, Yarmolenko is the most popular Ukraine player in the McDonald’s game and after last night’s 45 minute display, he’s likely to pick up further suitors prior to the tournament kicking off. Andriy Voronin was also handed a start in a second striker role and also found the net before being subbed off at half time, while Andriy Shevchenko – on as a second half sub – set up Artem Milevskyi for the Ukraine’s fourth. With so much uncertainty surrounding the goalkeeper position, Fantasy managers will be disappointed to see Andriy Pyatov take his place between the posts; he comes in at 5.0, a full 1.0 more than the other two contenders, Maxym Koval and Oleksandr Goryainov.

Ukraine Starting XI: Pyatov; Husiev (Butko 63), Khacheridi, Mikhalik (Rakitskiy 46), Selin; Tymoschuk, Konoplyanka; Yarmolenko(Shevchenko 46), Voronin (Aliev 46), Nazarenko (Seleznyov 54); Devic (Milevskiy 46).

Other News
Dick Advocaat has revealed he is “generally satisfied†with Russia’s preparations ahead of this evening’s friendly against Lithuania. The Dutchman also admitted he was likely to hand a few fringe players an opportunity before calling for a step up in performance after the weekend draw with Uruguay:

During the match with Uruguay we tried various things tactically, especially pressing the opposition. This is something I think we need to improve and will be trying to do so against Lithuania.

The Republic of Ireland’s treatment room continues to be the busiest of any national team right now. Yesterday saw both Paul McShane (ankle) and Darren O’Dea (thigh) nursing injuries, though Giovanni Trapattoni was handed some good news, with Shay Given now fully recovered from a knee problem and John O’Shea also nearing full fitness – the Sunderland man is “90%†likely to feature in a friendly against a local Tuscan side on Wednesday. Trapattoni has already named his starting XI for the game, with some of his fringe players set to be handed a chance to impress:

Westwood; Foley, St Ledger, Dunne, Kelly; Hunt, Gibson, Andrews, Green; Cox, Walters.

Reports in the Croatian press suggest Slaven Bilic has pencilled in his starting line-up for their opening group game against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday June 10. Bilic is quoted as naming the likes of Ivan Strinic at left-back, while Nikica Jelavic is earmarked to lead the line; priced at 4.0 and 5.0 in the McDonald’s game respectively, the pair afford the cheapest of routes into the Croatia squad, with Jelavic’s 32.4% ownership already the second most popular forward in the McDonald’s game thus far.

Domenico Criscito was one of seven players given the chop by Cesare Prandelli yesterday. The Italy boss trimmed a 32 player-squad down to 25, with another couple of players set to depart tomorrow. Criscito had been earmarked by many as a less pricey route into the Italian backline in the McDonald’s game – priced at 6.0, he looked a strong favourite to start at left-back but has been caught up in match-fixing allegations and will instead spend the summer trying to clear his name. Other reports suggest Prandelli has been trialling different variations up front in his preferred 4-3-1-2 formation, with Riccardo Montolivo in “the hole†behind front pair Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli. Priced at 7.0, Montolivo would be sure to leap in our Fantasy estimations if Prandelli decides to hand more offensive role – let’s hope tonight’s game with Luxemburg hands us further insight into the Italy manager’s intentions.

Greece right-back Vassilis Torossidis missed training yesterday after limping out of the weekend draw against Slovenia with a swollen knee. With the final 23 to be announced later on today, Fernando Santos welcomed back Giorgos Fotakis and Kyriakos Papadopoulos to training, with the duo expected to feature in Thursday’s friendly against Armenia. The latter, in particular, has been a firm favourite on the site and, coming in at 4.5 in the McDonald’s game, is owned by 15.9% of Fantasy managers, significantly more than any other player in Santos’ squad.

Dutch boss Bert Van Marwijk has a major selection dilemma on his hands after an MRI scan confirmed Joris Mathijsen has sustained a hamstring strain. The centre-half lasted jump 16 minutes of the 2-1 weekend home defeat to Bulgaria before limping off but had already been named in Van Marwijk’s final 23 prior to kick-off. Holland have now released a statement, saying:

In the coming days we have to wait and see how the injury develops.

Hazard move to Chelsea indicates that he is a glory hunter. Despite keen interest from Chelsea he did not consider going there, until they won the Champions League by saying "I'll definitely be going to Manchester."
After City won the league and before Chelsea won the Champions League, City were the favorites to land him, because they had recently won the league.

    http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2012/05/29/3133896/the-trials-tribulations-of-eden-hazard-the-definitive

This article perfectly explains how big an attention seeker and a glory hunter he is and I am really happy that such a player has not joined United. Because of these tributes, he wouldn't have lasted a season under Sir Alex as he doesn't take shit from any of his players.

How would joining Man United prove somebody is not a glory hunter? Have you not been successful? Or did you not win 4 out of the last 6 titles?

You did not get my point. Joining Chelsea doesn't mean he is a glory hunter. The way he joined Chelsea by taking a complete U-turn from the Manchester clubs is weird. The point that he did not consider Chelsea to be his preferred destination before they won the Champs League is the main indicator that he is a glory hunter.

He was looking for CL football - what top player doesn't use that as a criteria?
Of course he wouldn't consider Chelsea when they didn't look probable to be playing CL football next year but as soon as they were they offer a much more complete package than either Manchester side could.

Hardly a glory hunter, just means that one of his factors was playing in the CL next season as opposed to the Europa League.

I don't really see where he would have fit into the City squad, so maybe if he was prepared to join a club where he'd be rotated a lot then that's also a sign that he's in it for glory, rather than to play football that will make a difference. Though wanting to be a winner isn't necessarily a bad trait in competitive sport!

3 out of 4 exams done! Has ENR & Co announced anything yet?

Btw. in an hour, my class will be voting on which country we will be travelling to for our academic excursion next year, India or Taiwan. Any inputs? I am leaning towards Taiwan at the moment, apparantly there are more nanotechnology-options (a wider area at least) there, and since I'm part of the team organizing, India sounds exhausting travelling with 20 people to...

That is because it hasn't yet been done. However, you are expected to be a regular, if not prolific poster. You should have had at least one major barney on here. If you have written a piece for, or been a player in, their previous league, that will count in your favour. One of the aforementioned is a joke. 😉

Won't be applying myself, one of the criteria (probably the most important) will definitely be to be a regular, valued poster on the site. I just don't find the time to be able to fit into that category unfortunately, I'll just watch with amusement from the sidelines.

    Biased Rant

While I don't mind Bilic thinking all they have to do is show up, when it's start to spread on here it becomes a duty to speak up.
Describing Ireland as the whipping boys of the tournament shows a great lack of respect. We got here on the back of a very solid qualifing campaign. Yes it may not be pretty but it's what gets us results and kept us unbeaten for nine of our 10 games and unbeaten in 13. Never mind Chelsea at the Nou Camp, Ireland in Moscow was one of the finest defensive displays I've ever seen. We have a forward who currently has more goals than the English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese record goalscorers. His international record is a goal every other game, besides Klose I don't think there's anyone who can match that consistency at this tournament. We have a club atmosphere where every single player plays for each other and the jersey, again not many teams at the tournament can say this.
I've never seen a team so at ease with a tournament. They no exactly what needs to be done and if done right we can match anyone on the day.

I'm not for one second suggesting we'll win it all and I'm fully aware that this could come back to bite me in the ass with a 3-0 hammering or something but credit where credit's due. COYBIG

Agree with you that he should not be arrogant, especially given how crap his defense is. So they could just crumble at any time, but Ireland will still need to put up a good show to get anything from that game. Russia were one of the worst offenses in qualifying, only scored more than once 3 times(against very veak sides and Austria) in last 10 games. So it does not say much that you kept them out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ireland progress, I certainly can't see them conceding many, it's just managing to score against the calibre of opposition in the group that's going to be the problem.

Ah, sorry to disappoint, I'm pragmatic and realistic about our transfer targets this summer. Pardew dropped strong hints about signing a defender who's friends with Cabaye and can chip in with a few goals - most people are reading between the lines and think he's the target. Looks like he's exactly the kind of player we're specialising in these days.

Is the full URL with line breaks to stop the cut and paste problem. Put it all together and it should work.

Yep, some stinkers in there. I like this one because there's essentially no time limit and it really does stretch your memory.

probably after 9 was allocated to Huntelaar though. Kuyt & Robben were always going to get 7 & 11

    Hi!

What do you guys think about my team?

    Goalkeepers: Tzorvas, Casillas
Defenders: Rami, Zhirkov, Alba, Boateng, Piszcek
Midfielders: Özil, Shirokov, BÅ‚aszczykowski, Nigel de Jong, Andrews
    Forwards: Cassano, Robben, Benzema

Do you think De Jong and Alba will start??
