David Silva spares Spain’s blushes with a late winner against China. Cesare Prandelli is considering changes to Italy’s defence in light of the 3-0 loss to Russia, Giovanni Trapattoni has decided on his starting XI to face Croatia next Sunday, while Johan Elmander hands Sweden a boost by returning to training:

Spain 1 China 0

Vicente Del Bosque started with Raul Albiol alongside Sergio Ramos in the heart of defence last night as Spain scrambled to a 1-0 win. Alvaro Arbeloa and Jordi Alba were the full-backs and the latter, priced at 6.5 in the McDonald’s game, looks the cheapest route into a backline that has now conceded just a single goal in their last four matches.

Up front, Alvaro Negredo was handed the central role before making way for Fernando Torres at the break, while David Silva and Santi Cazorla started on the flanks. Cazorla has now begun all three of Spain’s friendlies over the last couple of weeks and looks an intriguing prospect for those willing to take a punt – classified as a midfielder, he comes in at just 7.0 and has a mere 0.6% ownership.

Andres Iniesta made his first appearance over the recent friendlies and climbed off the bench to set up Silva for the only goal of the game, as the defending champions warmed up for their opener with Italy next Sunday by chalking up their fourth straight victory.

Spain Starting XI: Casillas (Valdes 46); Arbeloa, Ramos (Pique 56), Albiol, Alba; Xavi (Navas 46), Busquets (Iniesta 46), Alonso; Silva, Negredo (Torres 46), Cazorla (Mata 68).

Other News

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has hinted he is prepared to make changes to his defensive set-up after the 3-0 friendly humiliation at the hands of Russia. Italy had the most resilient defence of any side in qualification and conceded just two goals but their manager clearly has no qualms reassessing his options at the back, with the Spain clash just six days away:

You could see the fragility of the team when we went behind and I was surprised by the defence. I am forced to try something, even if i haven’t got much time, to give some security at the back. After conceding the opener, it was as if we collapsed. We’ve got to figure out if this is a psychological or physical issue. When Russia had the ball wide, we were under serious pressure.

Further press reports suggest a move to a 3-5-2 formation could be on the cards, with four of Juventus’ title-winning defence featuring: Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini could line up in front of Gianluigi Buffon in goal. Christian Maggio may move to the right of midfield, while Federico Balzaretti and Emanuele Giaccherini could battle it out for a role on the opposite flank– Maggio and Balzaretti would go up in our Fantasy reckoning if this proves to be the case, with both classified as defenders in the McDonald’s game.

Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed his starting XI for tonight’s game with Hungary will also start the Republic of Ireland’s opener with Croatia next Sunday. With Shay Given and John O’Shea both fit and available, Trapattoni admitted that, unless there were “strange circumstances” he will keep to the same line-up:

Why should I announce this team now? It is an easy answer. It is the team that allowed us to achieve qualification, they are in good form and we shouldn’t change. We can play with our eyes closed. If we need to change, the other players can play the same way, but I couldn’t change because all of these players are doing very well.

Johan Elmander participated in a group warm-up for the first time since having the plaster removed from a fractured foot. The former Bolton man has failed to feature in Sweden’s friendlies thus far, with Markus Rosenberg – priced 4.5 in the McDonald’s game – leading the line in the recent 3-2 win over Iceland. Elmander also took part in some jogging and ball work, though will perhaps need to prove his fitness in Tuesday’s friendly against Serbia to be in the running for the opener against Ukraine in a week’s time.

just correct me if i'm missing:
the strategy for playing this game is to set up ur team with all ur bench players coming in at day4 and ur capt at gw1
then the only thing u do is changing ur captain till the end of day 3
after all day 3 teams have played, make the appropriate changes with the bench players

    correct?

it's what i'm doing for GW1 anyway... not sure it'll work out after I WC though...

You need to have choice on your bench for late in the GW for sure. Also having more than 3 day 4 players in your squad is a risk, given that you won't have the option to swap them out before the GW ends...

RULE SAYS:An unlimited number of manager substitutions can be made, however, it is not possible to make manager substitutions after games on the last day of the Matchday, as all fixtures will have been completed.
So,I think you can change your captain & other players to the players still to play on daily basis if he doesn't perform

Not necessarily but that is basically all it is if all 4 of your subs are group D.

If a captain does well then you don't even want to change. It is a stick or twist scenario with captains & subs.

If you have subs from group C also then you need to make decisions sooner about subbing them in.

Mandzukic has ?? about his starting place, given that Eduardo came on and scored, I'd be wary of that.

I'd avoid England for GW1, as I think France will win that.

Boateng is expensive, cheaper alternatives which will free up funds to maybe do Robben -> Benzema...

Boateng's group does not look good for CS and I'm not sure he is first choice. I haven't seen the name Sivok about so I have no idea if he plays. Other than that it looks fine, you might want to try and squeeze Yarmolenko and RVP in but your current picks are sound.

Planning to wildcard after the first week, so I guess I probably should get rid of Boateng too given his clean sheet chances aren't that great.

Any experts on the German team?

I'm guessing Gomez is ahead of Klose as the centre-forward, but both will probably get their share of the action. This puts me off either really...

Müller and Podolski are regular starters in the team and on recent form, especially for the national team Muller seems to be in the better goalscoring form. I'm edging towards Müller as my German forward of choice for the first game and he's 0.5m cheaper than Podolski too.

Can anyone confirm that Müller and Podolski are likely to start all of the games? Also, any idea which one is under most threat from the likes of Schürrle, Reus and Götze?

Thanks for the suggestion, but i'm still not convinced on Yarm. Can't get Affelay as I already have two dutch players. Anyway, I'm happy enough with Jelavic, with Olic out of the euros now, I reckon he will start.

tommytour was a good member of the champions league and did a couple write ups and group analysis and such and finished 330 in the world this last season!

the reason we are waiting on him is that he was on vacation so got back just before the deadline and so did not have enough time to get his team and a partner and vision and team name sorted

Jelavic and Mandzukic are still 1st choice but i wouldn't be suprised if Eduardo replace one of them

    Tzorvas, Issakson

Is Tzorvas first gk of Greece?

    Corluka, Papadopulos, Rami, Olsson, O'Dea

    Sneider, Ribery, Young, Marchisio, Dzagoev

    Dzagoev or Shirokov?

    Eduardo, Robben, Torres

Eduardo will score a lot, trust me. Should I put Robben, Rvp (no money for him) or Ibra? Who will be first striker of Spain, Llorente, Torres or Negredo (wtf?)?

And Why the fck are Nani, Silva and Robben attackers, they're midlefielders just as Ribery or Young!

    Thx

Really, Tzorvas 3rd choice, than why so many players have him in their team?

I said it a long time ago, Theres no fantasy football when there's no Eduardo 🙂 And who to put instead of Torres, someone who will play and score with a price of 9?

And one more weird thing, Netherlands won 6-0, Robben played till 83', did not score or asist, Im thinking of him right now...
