Over the past couple of days, we’ve been sorting out our Injuries and Bans database, updating the upcoming suspensions for the season ahead in addition to keeping note of those players still sidelined or unavailable for one reason or another…

This takes into account the ensuing bans for the likes of Tim Cahill and Joey Barton, while Danny Rose and Jason Roberts have already served one game of their respective three-match suspensions. Wayne Bridge’s loan move to Brighton and Chelsea pair Patrick Van Aanholt and Tomas Kalas’ season-long move to Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem have also been noted accordingly.

In terms of injuries, players such as Darren Bent and Nemanja Vidic have now been changed to “available for selection” in light of their respective returns to pre-season training. Any long-term casualties who have yet to return to any sort of action remain marked as unavailable – as always, this includes Kieron Dyer.

We’re also tracking all the injury news from the pre-season matches: those players causing concern will be marked as “knocks” while we await further updates. Their status will of course change should they become “doubts” or “outs” for the season kick-off on August 18.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Apparently Ron Vlaar is on the verge of signing for Villa. About time we signed a decent player.

Hopefully he doesn't turn crap. We've got a habit of doing that to decent players when they join.

Or if they get better we sell them quickly. Or don't play them much like Cahill, Davis and Cuellar.

Could do with a couple midfielders tbh. Watched some terrible stuff at villa park last year.

You a 'fan' (using the term lightly)? I know what you mean, only Ireland and N'Zogbia stand out a midfielders who can really trouble the best, and it's been a while since Ireland produced. Then we have a couple of new midfielders who will do a job and then a lot of good youngsters (Bannan, Albrighton, Clark will probably start in midfield, etc).

My housemate is a fan and I live in the area so I go watch em.

I would honestly sell Ireland he can't be bothered and hasn't produced a lot other than one good year at city.

Bannan and delph are not up to it. Herd and Clark have potential but let's c.

I think u need 2 new centre mids tho this Tunisian guy I guess is one.

What do u make of gabby? Time to sell? Matey ain't scored since nov 5th!!

He's played a lot over the last three years so I'd take the risk on a Dutch international, for a decent price (around £5m apparently).

He's not been getting in thr provisional Dutch squads and on paper they're defence is poor.

Villa should at least try for the likes of hoillet, Jarvis etc

And as a long shot berbatov!!

Xabi is one of the best midfielders in the world, his distribution is amazing, I'd love to see him back in a Liverpool shirt, he still loves the club, but left for Madrid after feeling marginalised by Benitez to join his boyhood club, can't blame him.

I can't see him coming back to Liverpool, why would Madrid want to let him go?

Dembele is such an obvious transfer. Fulham have already signed the perfect replacement for him from PSG... 16 year old French striker Moussa Dembele.

A great day in the tour today and a great example from wiggo to pull the leading bunch back when Cadel Evans had a puncture on the summit of the final climb......most amusing that when interviewed at the end wiggo suggested the local police catch the numpty who dropped carpet tacks on that final climb and make them go to a football game 😆
Great sportsmanship from our yellow jersey wearer....well done wiggo great stuff!!!

This year's tour has been great, tacks aside, Wiggo would be a worthy winner.

its all over the press today from a L'Equipe story and you have to admit that next year if its a very hilly tour froombe should be given all the support he needs to bring home the maillot jaune so couldnt agree more archie 😛

Yeah, while Froome may lose a bit of time to Wiggo on the time trials, he has the beating of him in the mountains, it depends on the course.
And half the 2 minutes he is down on Wiggins at the moment is down to a wheel change early on.

Also, Sagan is definitely one to watch out for in the GC in future once he improves his time trialling a little and his climbing, the way he kept up with the breakaway group today over the big climbs was impressive, he's only 22 and has a lot of potential.

+1 on sagan archie that boy is gonna sorry already is a star and destined for much better things almost certainly a gc contender for next year altho winning a grand tour rarely comes quickly and as the break by sanches showed its experience and maturity that invarialy enables someone to win a grand tour.....on froombe tho will be interesting to see if he is still at sky next year, figure if he isnt given the support nxt season wiggo has been given this year can see another team prising him away, lets hope not two consecutive GB winners of a grand tour would be fantastic 😛

not sour grapes at all. if you read or kept up with all that has gone on in the spl you would have more of an idea of the situation. This was not a decision that the other SPL clubs took lightly, There are huge implications for those chairmen and their clubs. the easy decision would have bee to say "lets keep them" and use the revenue gained as a reason for doing so. They never, the integrity of scottish football was at stake and they all agreed that this was paramount.

Yeah what the SFA are trying to do is find a way to prevent Rangers from going down to Division 3 as there is a high probability that 4 or 5 of the SPL clubs who voted against Rangers inclusion run a risk of going into administration this year due to the cash losses that they will have to deal with due to whats happened and the fact that as things stand it could take 3-4 years before they were back in the top flight. Its a mess and maybe an SPL2 might help speed up the process. I think its the SFA trying to be clever but its gonna really aggrevate all the other clubs if they do push it through. Sad Sad times for Scottish football,

if it was the fans it would be sour grapes coming into play, of that i have no doubt as most non rangers fans in scotland done particularly like them, a bit like the anyone but united mentality, but deff not with the chairmen who had to look at the bigger picture and all the implications. i dont think it was a decision they took lightly at all. its a shame to see the SPL falling further and further into decline each year and its gonna get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

David Murray f**ked them long before that though. He allowed his ego to run riot at Rangers, then made a panicked decision to sell the club as it teetered on the brink of ruin. Whyte just compounded the misery.

Craig was allowed to take over the club before anyone found out he didn't have the money he claimed he had. Elimination before the Group Stage of the Champions League cut off their principal revenue stream and left them screwed, to use the accountants' technical term.

At the moment he could become either. Hes already the player anderson should have been. Plays in CM for his club. Very good prospect there - strong, fast, skillful, can pass and score. Plus hes only 19. If fergie gets him, im pretty sure he would be sure CM will be his role

    Hart
    Cole GJ Huth
    Taarabt Pienaar Lucas
    Rooney Aguero

Same strategy for me, only Lucas, Aguero and Hart the same.

Wouldnt have GJ from the start due to terrible fixtures. 30 transfers still allows for some planning - get a liv def in when their fixtures clear up.

... and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:
'Tis not through envy of thy happy lot, 5
But being too happy in thine happiness,
That thou, light-wingèd Dryad of the trees,
    In some melodious plot
Of beechen green, and shadows numberless,
Singest of summer in full-throated ease. 10

O for a draught of vintage! that hath been
Cool'd a long age in the deep-delvèd earth,
Tasting of Flora and the country-green,
Dance, and Provençal song, and sunburnt mirth!
O for a beaker full of the warm South! 15
Full of the true, the blushful Hippocrene,
With beaded bubbles winking at the brim,
    And purple-stainèd mouth;
That I might drink, and leave the world unseen,
And with thee fade away into the forest dim ...

I hear ya', and that's mighty empathic of you ... but the guy could have either stopped when he was told it was annoying people, or just continued it and put up with a little stick for it.

I think his comment saying he had no interest in footy banter made him less-sympathetic. He was ranked 30th last year in FPL, so he's not an idiot. He could have changed, adjusted, or dealt with it. Instead, he takes his ball and goes home.

He'll either be back or not. FFS, imagine what RBJ would have done to him ...

it shouldn't but the fact he's not got competition from drogs, kalou or anelka will bump it up a bit unless you sign another striker before the season kicks off imo. less risk of rotation

True enough. But if he is priced as high as the likes of Aguero, then it will be a massive strain on the rest of my team for week 1. I very much intend to have both of them.

I'd cry (not literally) if he is priced at 12.0. As far as I'm concerned they can't justify that price based purely on "potential". He was priced at 11.0 last season, and did nothing to live up to that pricetag. Surely they can't bump that figure up after the 18 months he's had?!

The Euros will have an effect, I reckon. Chelsea being Chelsea is enough to stabilize his "value" -- even though he's been diabolical from an FPL perspective.

Did you catch much of Ballack during the Euros? I was actually quite impressed with him/his analysis.

This is the first I've heard of Ballack doing any analysis during the Euros! Who was he working for?!

And I'm not the slightest bit surprised his analysis was good. Very intelligent player. 😉

ESPN, in the US anyways, had him doing the pre-/post- games with Alexi Lalas (ugh).

Him being German and Chelsea gives two good reasons not to like him ... but he was quite good: knowledgeable, well-spoken, honest without being harsh. He was miles better than Lalas ... [insert joke here]

I'd need to see Chelsea completely change their style first. With all the new signings, it's possible, but there's absolutely no chance unless they put on a serious show in the community shield. Torres is a cumbersome oaf for chelsea. He's lost his pace, basically.

He has lost "some " of his pace, I agree. Still the most lethal finisher in the world when on top form. It's all about confidence with ElNino.
I think that confidence will return. The goal in the CL semi final was a milestone in his recovery methinks

No, the CL semi final vs Barca. Injury time one-on-one. If he missed it, I think it would have finished him alltogether. But he finished it...hence the start of the recovery process imo.

I'm starting to think that FPL may have to give us more money this year. The prices have been so restrictive so far that it's looking likely to be nigh on impossible to put a decent team together.
