QPR open their pre-season schedule with a 5-0 thrashing of a local XI in Asia, with Djibril Cisse the main protagonist. Man City scrape a goalless draw in Germany and have yet to find the net over their first couple of matches, while West Ham’s less than impressive form continues, as the Hammers slip to defeat at Oxford United:

Sabah Select XI 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side began their pre-season tour of Asia in emphatic style yesterday afternoon. The QPR boss handed three of his summer signings their debut, with Ji-Sung Park, Andrew Johnson and Fabio all featuring in the 5-0 win. The London outfit fielded a different XI in each half and went in 1-0 ahead at the break, thanks to a Bobby Zamora goal, though Johnson was highly praised in the match reports for an industrious performance up front alongside his former Fulham team mate. The second half saw QPR run rampant, with Fabio – 4.5 in FPL and 4.3 in the Sky Sports game – offering plenty threat from the right-back area throughout and resultantly picking up an assist towards the end. Hughes will be more than happy to see his frontmen all in strong form; Jay Bothroyd and Heidar Helguson both found the net, though Djibril Cisse was the stand-out performer. The Frenchman produced two goals and an assist, in a continuation of the form that brought six goals in seven starts in the second half of last season; at 6.5 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game respectively, he could well be one to watch as a mid-price option next term.

QPR (first half): Murphy, Harriman, Ferdinand, Hill, Ehmer, Wright-Phillips, Diakite, Park, Doughty, Zamora, Johnson.

QPR (second half): Cerny, Fabio, Onuoha, Connolly, Traore, Mackie, Taarabt, Ephraim, Bothroyd, Cisse, Helguson.

Dynamo Dresden 0 Man City 0
Two games down and the champions have yet to score in pre-season following a goalless draw in Germany yesterday evening. Despite missing their Euro 2012 contingent, City still fielded a strong team, with Argentine duo Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez named up front in a 4-4-2. The latter looked the livelier of the two and came close to making the difference a couple of times, while Aguero – in his first appearance of the summer – made way at the break. Roberto Mancini made several changes as the match progressed but City, despite the promptings of Yaya Toure, were simply unable to produce the breakthrough and had to settle for a drab stalemate in the end. According to the City website, Mancini fielded all fit and available senior players for the match – Edin Dzeko, Adam Johnson and Nigel De Jong all sat in the stands, suggesting the trio were carrying knocks. Vincent Kompany also limped off with what appeared to be a hamstring issue, though bearing in mind the City site failed to mention it, the problem is likely to be minimal.

City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 74mins), Zabaleta (Elabdellaoui 74), Kolo Toure (Boyata 86), Savic (Mancini 86), Kompany (Rekik 68) Biton (Evans 86), Yaya Toure (Razak 70), Lopes (Weiss 62), Kolarov (Helan 74), Tevez (Scapuzzi 74) and Aguero (Jelavic 46, Bunn 86)

Oxford United 1 West Ham 0
Sam Allardyce fielded a strong team for last night’s trip to Oxford but watched on as his side spurned several opportunities in the 1-0 defeat. The likes of Mark Noble, Kevin Nolan and Ravel Morrison started in midfield, while Carlton Cole and Ricardo Vaz Te led the line in a 4-4-2 for the visitors. The Hammers ensured Morrison saw plenty of the ball and the former United man sparkled without producing any end product, while Vaz Te was the most culpable and missed plenty of chances to find the net. Allardyce watched his side go behind on 38 minutes and, after making a couple of substitutions at half-time, then proceeded to hand many of his Development Squad youngsters a run out just after the hour mark but the alterations failed to make any difference. The Hammers are being pencilled in for investment by Fantasy managers due to their strong opening schedule but their form so far has been anything but impressive; they have now tasted victory in just one of their four friendlies thus far.

West Ham Starting XI: Henderson, Demel (Nasha 61), Spence, Reid (Wearen 61), McCartney (Taylor 46), Noble (Moncur 61), Nolan (Ruddock 61), O’Neil (Porritt 61), Morrison (Turgott 61), Cole (Maynard 46), Vaz Te (Hall 61)

    Does anyone know about West Ham's back four? They only have two 4,5m defenders and the others costs 4.0m

      Tomkins nailed-on at 4.5m

          Graham was the 6th highest scoring forward last season, and Swansea have the best fixtures of any team for the opening 8 gameweeks.
          Taarabt has two very good fixtures to start off with, and then after 3 tough games has a few more great fixtures. His stats suggest he seriously underperformed last season and he started to show some form towards the end of the season last year.
          I personally don't rate Pogrebnyak at all, his record speaks for itself, and besides the opening 2-3 games for Fulham he was very poor.

    My second effort:

    Cech, Green (11)
    Kaboul, Jenkinson, Cuellar, Fabio, Tomkins (23.5)
    Bale, Hazard, Dyer, Maloney, Noble (34.5)
    Rooney, Torres, Tevez (30.5)

    Hazard -> Valencia/Kagawa GW2
    Torres -> Adebayor GW3
    Dyer -> Pienaar GW4

    I know my defence looks weak but have Kaboul as a big hitter, with the other 4 rotating has a good run of fixtures. Any suggestions how I could fit in another big hitter in defence without messing my team up too much?

          I dont. A decent Euros is irrelevant to his place in City's team. One good performance in the semis was enough to make everyone forget his atrocious dabbling on the ball in the fixtures before that. Mancini knows he is very hit and miss - therefore more of an impact sub than a starter

      the totally weak defence is a viable options in fairness
      but i personally wouldnt map out transfers at this stage - your bound to change your mind when the season starts and you see everyone play

      If you had to get rid of 1 big hitter you;d think Tevez since the risk of rotation - that is if you believe Torress will bag from the off this year........

        I dont think its that weak tho. It does look it sure, but had a look at fixtures and can get a good chance of 3 clean sheets virtually every gameweek for a while. Jenkinson is such a great option cant believe nobody else has him!

    RMT – It’s the First Draft!

    Begovic – Sorenson
    Terry – Lescott – Rangel – Nelsen – Demel

    Rooney – Adebayor – Graham

      Interesting keeper choice. Stoke have a very low chance of clean sheets in the first few weeks tho.
      Cork, Al Ahmadi, Graham out. Pog, Noble, Maloney in. Better options than Nelsen for 4.5.

      Horrible idea with the keepers, get Jussi as West Ham and Stoke rotate 38/38 weeks.

      Nelsen is unlikely to start, may be the case for Demel too but I have no idea on that one.

      I'd rather have a Spurs or Utd mid over Walcott. Cork and Ahmadi - why?

      I like the attack.

    i know lescott's been in the first team for quite some time but is there any chance that mancini would go for toure against SOT(Week 1) or QPR( week 2). lescott at 6.5 would be a great investment with his threat from the set pieces.

        "I tried both, but my mid looks like horse sh**"

        Exactly.

        I think the nicest way is doubling up on MUN midfield with a front 8 going from something like:

        Hazard / Valencia / Ya Ya Toure / 5.0 / 5.0
        Aguero / Torres / Graham

        with Hazard swapping to Nani or Kagawa to take advantage of those games and with CHE missing a week. Torres could go to Adebayor easily enough too.

    Well done to the FPL for dumbing down this once great game even further. With the rediculous underpricing of most players, now you can buy a stellar team from the start.

    Boring. It's all about finding the cheap players who are bargains. Not this year!

      except last year the pricing was such that virtually every team was the same, these "cheap bargains" were about 5 players across the season who everybody knew about. This way yes you can pick a good team, but you can pick a LOT of different good teams, and that is where the fun is.

      Teams will be more different this year, I think. Last year there were so few cheap players that performed well, that everyone had them in their team. Every team on ere had about 10 players the same. Should be a bit different this year.
