QPR keep up their winning ways with a narrow 2-1 triumph in the final game of their pre-season tour of Asia. Bobby Zamora is amongst the goals once again for Mark Hughes’ outfit, with Samba Diakite, Adel Taarabt and Fabio (playing as a right winger) the main protagonists. Tim Cahill looks to be on his way out of Everton after the Toffees accept a bid from New York Red Bulls, while Sir Alex Ferguson reveals Nemanja Vidic and Jonny Evans may not be ready in time for the new season as United’s central defensive crisis deepens:

Persebaya 1 QPR 2
Mark Hughes’s side finished their Asia tour with a 100% record after their third successive win yesterday. After back-to-back 5-0 victories in their previous two games, QPR didn’t get things their own way, though, and conceded their first goal of pre-season on 17 minutes – Rob Green failed to gather a long ball into the box, allowing home forward Soler the chance to slot home from close-range. Samba Diakite, in particular, was lauded by the QPR website for a superb showing in central midfield but it was on-loan Fabio who again played his part offensively. Playing on the right of midfield for Hughes’ side, the Brazilian was hauled down in the box on 26 minutes, with Adel Taarabt slotting home the resultant spot-kick. Fabio – at 4.5 in FPL and 4.3 in the Sky Sports game – already looks set for plenty investment but the added possibility of game time in midfield will really catch the attention of Fantasy managers.

In a game played under sweltering conditions, the pace began to slow as the match progressed but Taarabt maintained his strong recent form and continued to provide plenty menace going forward. It was no surprise when the Moroccan and Fabio were involved in the visitors’ winner; their combination eventually played in Jamie Mackie on the right, with the sub teeing up Bobby Zamora to slot home. The former Fulham man has now notched in all three of his side’s games so far and, priced at 6.5 in FPL and 8.2 in the Sky Sports game, may be one to watch going into the new season.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Cerny 45), Onuoha, Ferdinand (Doughty 45), Connolly, Hill (Ehmer), Fabio (Harriman), Taarabt, Diakite (Park), Traore (Wright-Phillips), Zamora (Ephraim), Helguson (Mackie 45).

In Other News…
Tim Cahill may well have played his last game for Everton after the club confirmed they have accepted a bid of £1m from New York Red Bulls for the Australian’s services. Cahill – who is due to serve a three-match suspension at the start of the season after his dismissal in the Toffees’ final league match of 2011/12 – was a huge disappointment last time round, notching just twice in 35 appearances, and his likely departure now increases the chances of other candidates in David Moyes’ first XI.

With the Everton boss favouring a 4-5-1, a role in “the hole†is up for grabs now – Marouane Fellaini, Leon Osman and Steven Naismith seem the most obvious options; the Belgian impressed there towards the end of the previous campaign, notably in the 4-4 draw against United, but Naismith’s partnership with Nikica Jelavic at Glasgow Rangers may work in his favour. Certainly, Fellaini and Osman hold the most appeal from an Fantasy perspective, mainly as Naismith is classified as a forward in both FPL and the Sky Sports game. All three come in at 6.5 in FPL, though Fellaini is definitely the most intriguing in the Sky game; at 6.1, he is far cheaper than Osman (7.5), with Naismith setting you back 6.7. The move perhaps edges Steven Pienaar towards a Toffees return. With Cahill’s exit helping Moyes balance the books, the South African could be poised to make his way back to Goodison from Spurs – averaging over 5 ppg during his loan spell last term, Pienaar was outstanding value for money and, coming in at 6.5 in FPL this time round, is surely set to pick up plenty investment if he seals his move back to Merseyside.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s central defensive worries show no sign of abating, with the news that United skipper Nemanja Vidic may not be fit in time for the new season. The Serb missed the vast majority of the previous campaign and was expected to be ready for the opener at Everton on Monday August 20 but the Old Trafford boss admitted there are question marks hanging over both Vidic and Jonny Evans, going on to tell a press conference in Shanghai:

It’s not 100 per cent that Jonny Evans and Vida will start the season. Jonny will start running today. Vida and Phil Jones started full training today, which is very positive. If I can keep Rio fit, then Vidic and Jones should give us ample cover.

With Chris Smalling ruled out for 10 weeks due to a metatarsal injury and Evans still recovering from an ankle injury, Scott Wootton has partnered Rio Ferdinand at centre-half in the club’s two pre-season matches thus far. Jones has now returned to training after time off due to Euro 2012 duties, however, and could now come into contention in our Fantasy thinking if Vidic and Evans fail to recover in time; both Jones and Ferdinand are priced at 6.0 in FPL and come in at 7.0 and 6.8 respectively in the Sky Sports game.

    So here's my team:

DDG (if we think his participation in Olympics won't mean he'll be rested)
Federici (if I go with DDG)

Ivanovic (assuming he starts some pre-season matches at RB and looks nailed-on)
Lescott (if MC don't buy Skrtel or a.n. other CB)
Coloccini (pretty nailed on unless either of the above changes)
Cuellar (assuming injury clears up and he's looking like regular starts)
Fonte (or any other 4.0 who looks the best prospect before 18th)

Lampard (if he shows sign of not playing 'too' deep and is making some late runs into box in preseason)
    Pienaar (assuming at Eve)
Sess (if Sun don't buy a credible recognised FD)
Taraabt (as long as he continues to play in the whole and has pens in his locker)
Noble (unless Michu comes in at 5.0)

Torres (unless Che buy Cavani or another world class FW)
Aguero (unless RVP goes to MC)
Pog (unless either of the above don't work out)

£2m left for Torres -> Rooney in GW2 (unless of course RVP goes to MU)

Is it just me or is the whole RMTing a bit of waste of everybodys time at present?

I'm not saying putting players in to a draft team, seeing who rotates well with who, looking at fixtures and good runs, etc. isn't worthwhile, but when conceivably my whole team could change is there any point posting it as an RMT yet?

:smiley face: to make me not look like a complete killjoy!

Yeah just get a draft team, then if need be, post a RMT nearer the time of season opening when things have settled down a bit is better than posting RMTs now I reckon.

But then even though RMTs are a bit pointless now, I suppose it can create decent discussions, so it's not all bad.

How's about a rebranding of the term RMT?

Really they are a 'Here's my initial thinking in the form of a draft team; what do you all think?'

    DDG,Federici
    Ivanovic,Hangeland,Clichy,(Gunter),(Demel)
    Dempsey,Hazard,Noble,Kagawa,(Maloney)
    Pogrebnyak,Torres,Aguero

I noticed none of you have gone for Demps which I’m guessing is due to the cost, but with their fixtures and with Pog gone he’ll be scoring goals (provided he isn’t sold) no?

Don't like the filler DFs. If you look carefully at GW2 for example, you only have Ivanovic with a good chance of a CS. The rest are playing away. Then in GW3 2 out of the 5 don't have a fixture and Hangeland is away again. I feel you need to look at the rotation a little better.

Extra couple of points not to be sniffed at and although the defenders may not even get that, you can get odd results early on and you may have the player that nicks a goal in a 4-1 defeat. (H) Stoke is a good fixture for Reading so not totally forlorn. The better way to get the Reading coverage is for one of the players to be the keeper at least then you can have the other keeper available for GW3 and they may pick up save points, even a penalty save. At 4.5m Federici will be a very popular selection as GK for the first week, but just make sure the other keeper has an o.k GW3 fixture and then you are getting four fixtures for the price of three.

So that's only 7 outfield players in your squad who have a game in GW3.

You're either going to have to take an 8 point hit to field a full team or go short of players after only 3 weeks. And that assumes no other injuries/suspensions/rotation.

Assuming he free transfers the non players out before GW2/3 he can feild 9, so one hit will give him 10 outfield (agree that it gives no room for injuries/rotation whatsoever; ergo madness)

*4 point hit, you're quite right.

Can't believe how many people are designing teams with planned transfers and no flexibility for unexpected problems.

Too much. Assuming you have 3 Chelsea players too it means you are taking 2 x Chelsea/Reading straight out to avoid a hit in GW3.

You'll find it hard to upgrade those reading players too. 2 max for me.

Manchester United made an offer, which was rejected and they won't make another one as they have reached their limit."

Fixtures. Pre season form can't be classified as 'form' in my opinion.

Fixtures to start with, as preseason doesn't really count. A mixture of both then as the season goes on

I think this question is more likely to lead to a mistake than to anything good. You need to look at both, everything else is making things overly simple.

What I can say though is that I'd rather keep an in-form player through bad fixtures, than keep an out-of-form player through good fixtures.

After reading the reasoning of Daniels' cheap GK combo, I am tempted to go cheap.
Because we are not sure about the prospect on the more expensive rotations side yet. Further more, a WC can solve every problem in the world 😀

I'm writing a piece on Fulham atm and have been stalking your website's forum for some interesting stuff but having no success. What's going to be the starting line up for GW1 in your opinion?

Is actually pretty tricky to say at the moment as there's talk of changing formation and not sure who's first choice out of Hughes/Senderos & Petric/Rodallega. I'd hazard a stab at:

        4-4-2
        Schwarzer
        Reither Hughes Hangeland Riise
        Ruiz Dembele Diarra Dempsey
        Petric Rodallega

        4-2-3-1/4-3-3
        Schwarzer
        Reither Hughes Hangeland Riise
        Dembele Diarra
        Duff Ruiz Dempsey
        Rodallega/Petric

As I said though it very hard to say at the moment. Frei & Kacaniklic will be challenging for wing spots likewise Sidwell in centre mid, Kelly at right back and Senderos at centre back. Once all the squad is together things should become clearer... I hope!

Cheers man, much appreciated. The backline looks pretty set imo. I think Reither will jump straight in at right back. I also think 4-4-2 looks more likely, withe the 2 new guys up front. Trotta could also challenge for a place.

sorry that was meant to be a question about Trotta. Do you think he could get a starting spot if you guys play 2 up front?

No. I expect one more striker to come in (especially if Dempsey goes) and there's been a lot of links with Rhodes & Lukaku. Even if a striker doesn't come in and we play 2 up front I'd expect Petric & Rodallega to be up front with Dempsey next in line.

Actually think we're more likely to play one up front mostly this season. Rodallega can be used on the flank as well. As I said though, it's hard to tell as Rodallega and a few others weren't on the pre season tour and Ruiz is just returning from injury... I'll post my expected team when I have a clearer idea. Hope it helps 🙂

Again I'd expect him to challenge and I don't know much about Reither so hard to tell. There's also Baird to compete with who's back after some personal problems last year. At the moment I'd certainly lean towards Reither getting the nod but I'll let you know after a few more friendlies

Think Frei could be very promising, wouldn't expect him to hold down a starting spot yet though. If Dempsey stays he'll be nailed on for a wide spot and there's still Duff, Ruiz, Kacaniklic & a fit again Davies to compete with out wide. He will get some starts, possibly even in big games (played great against Chelsea last season) but won't be a consistent starter just yet
