Sky Sports Bring Fantasy Football Back To Our Screens

Fantasy Football is returning to our Friday night TV courtesy of a new show – The Fantasy Football Club.

We’re delighted to be amongst the first to announce the news that Sky Sports are launching a weekly show on Friday nights from 10-11pm, hosted by “Fenners” (pictured above) and Paul Merson.

The first episode will go out live on August 17 on Sky Sports HD and will mark the return of Fantasy Football to a TV audience following the demise of Baddiel and Skinner’s Fantasy Football League way back in 1996.

The Fantasy Football Club will feature celebrity guests each week, with analysis of their Fantasy lineups and the key Fantasy Football topics amongst the discussion. No really, we’ve been promised.

The Sky Sports’ own Fantasy Football game will, not surprisingly, feature throughout with a focus on the leaders and top teams. Fantasy Football Scout are supporting the game with our own league this season – details on how to join our league can be found below.

We’ll also be getting exclusive access to the team behind The Fantasy Football Club prior to the first airing, with more details to come before the August 17 kick-off. In the meantime, you might want to follow the show on Twitter right here.

And no, before you ask, I’m not the new “Statto”.

      I really hope not...it's a big ask though. It was a real shame the way B&S gave up on the Fantasy Football element so I'm really hoping this doesn't happen again.

    Great news! Kind of amazed it took so long! Fantasy games are huges news in the USA. When you watch their equivalent of Sky Sports News it gives you regular 'fantasy' updates for your players

        I've been playing Sky game since it started and although it doesn't have the more refined aspects of FPL it is none the less enjoyable and IMO certainly more appealing to the casual.
        I've always hovered around the 5k and peaked around the 500 mark , but unfortunately it doesn't keep a history and the control engine has changed a few times.
        Some aspects of their game is frustrating and I'd question the people running it on behalf of Sky- IMO Sky should be portraying cutting edge IT/technology for me they don't cut the mustard ,
        But I still continue to play- tho i do feel high ranks will be more difficult this year with scout and now TV on board.

      I've seen worse suggestions on here to be fair. Obertan is probably at the age where he needs to be making a serious challenge for starts (either that, or going to a team where he will get games). I've never forgiven him for scoring the injury time winner against us at OT back in 08/09 though, so he won't be staking a claim in my team

        Difficult to see where he fits in though...Cabaye, BArfa, Tiote, Guiterrez, Tiote plus Ba, then other fringe players (Gosling) all vying for midfield (or front 3 in a 4-3-3) spots.

        Still I think that's why I considered him i.e. it's about time. He's started a friendly or 2 this summer, but BArfa and Cabaye have been off after the Euros...

        Tough one.

    If this is a serious programme - focusing on stats / potential performers for the week / etc then it should be insightful. If it's just filled with random segments and interviews not sure how it will turn out.

        They are keen to ensure that they give Fantasy Managers info and opinion and stuff to discuss before closing time though. I'm hopeful.

          I'm sure it will have to be somewhat balanced between entertainment and statistical content, but i'd imagine they'll have nothing like the amount of statistical depth available here (for example). I don't see it will bring the level of the average player up a huge amount....

    I've not looked at the sky game yet, what are people's thoughts? Is it superior to fpl. Not sure I want to overkill on 2 games

      FPL is by far the better game. I played both last season and gradually became less and less interested in the Sky version. It's much more simplistic and less hands on. If you want a life, play the sky game only; if you're a fantasy football addict (most of us on here!) stick with FPL.
