Having already run the rule over the Goalkeepers, and Defenders for the season ahead, the third part in our series of Members articles sees us analyse the midfielders. With the aid of our Projections we’ve analysed the average points expected per player over the course of the upcoming campaign and, applying this to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player price list, have listed the top ten in terms of expected value per Fantasy pound for the season ahead…

Most nailed on Swans def?

Watching the Olympics gave me a craving for this..... Must not get anglicised......

Quality.
Open Controls
-
-
so what is the general consensus regarding Danny guthrie getting regular playing time?
Open Controls-
General concensus is that Danny Guthrie will get regular playing time....
Open Controls-
thanks yossi. another one for you.. which 4.0 defender do you think is nailed on for Norwich?
Open Controls-
-
-
I think Barnett is meant to be the most likely, but don't quote me on that....
Open Controls
-
-
Why? I'm still not sure.
Open Controls-
He left us to get regular playing time. He was first choice backup to Cabaye and Tiote here and would have got games in Europe. Why would he leave to be backup elsewhere at a club without the extra games we've got this season?
Open Controls-
Not saying he'll be back-up as such, just saying I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't start every game. I'd hope and probably believe that no-one in Reading's squad's place is nailed on really.
Open Controls
-
-
-
-
nailed on for 2 poinrts per game
Open Controls
-
-
Rank in order of who you'd play GW1 ; will affect my initial team selection and subsequent transfers of the near future.
Demel (AVL)
Rafael (eve)
Steven Taylor (TOT)Open Controls -
Wow so much crap flying about RVP. Will he stay will he go? what does everyone think?
I think he will stayOpen Controls-
Open Controls
-
Then Arsenal will lose him on a free next season, if I'm not wrong.
Open Controls -
He will stay and have a great season arsenal have a lot more depth in the 433 formation now and will come 3rd. Everyone writes them off just as easily as they hype liverpool
Open Controls-
Who's that writing them off, now?
Open Controls
-
-
Going out of the Premier League IMO
Open Controls -
Open Controls
-
-
If he goes there will be trouble. If he stays it will be double.
Open Controls-
Open Controls
-
But what I really want to know is will he stay or will he go?
Open Controls-
This indecision's bugging me.
Open Controls
-
-
-
I think he's going ... but if he stays he'll need to sign a new contract so Arse won't be without any sell-on value.
Open Controls-
If he stays he can just let his contract run down. Why does Arsenal receiving nothing matter to him? Surely it'll benefit him in his choice of clubs/wages? I mean loads of clubs would take him on a free transfer and he'd be able to demand a high signing on fee and higher wages as the clubs would be in competition.
Open Controls-
The amount of wages he would ask for doesn't fit into Man yoo's wage structure and that's why I don't believe he is going there
Open Controls -
Yeah, of course. I'm saying that I'd assume Arse will either sell him or get him to sign a new contract. If he won't sign, they'll sell him now.
Anything else would be fiscally unsound.Open Controls-
Can't see him signing a new contract though, if he wants to leave, there's not much they can do about it tbh. They'll have to lower their asking price at some point (even if its in Jan) or risk losing him for nothing and the interested clubs know that.
Open Controls-
They can sell him to Utd for ~20m now or, without a contract, for 0m later. Why in the world would they do that?
They bring him in, and settle it: either he stays and signs a new contract, or he leaves pronto. Anything else is suicidal.
If he won't sign and won't leave/agree terms with another club, they'll devalue him by not playing him.Open Controls-
I agree, but Arsenal aren't in the strong position for negotiating, the buying club are as the longer it goes on, the more Arsenal risk losing him for nothing.
Not sure how much Arsenal want but can't see them getting anything near his real value (not more than 15-20M)Open Controls
-
-
-
-
-
-
I think he will stay until January. And then the crows will swoop in for a bargain price.

Recently blitzed through The Wire and am up-to-date with Breaking Bad, any like minded TV viewers offer a decent series I can tackle next?Open Controls-
Sopranos
Open Controls-
+1 surely already watched? best series of all time imo

OMG you simply have to watch. Only breaking bad comes close!
Open Controls

Sounds perfect. I find balancing of family and alternative lifestyles leads to interesting story lines generally.
Thanks.Open Controls-
It's the best TV show ever made, enjoy!

Watching The Shield at the moment and It's pretty good. Not in Breaking Bad territory but still very enjoyable
Open Controls-
Maybe Prison Break too. First couple of seasons are quality....then it all goes a bit crazy
Open Controls -
I stumbled across The Shield after finishing The Wire but wasn't completely sold on it, I might give the first few episodes a go.
Open Controls-
I watched all of The Wire a few years back, thought it was the best show ever. Then my friend kept on bugging me to watch The Shield. It's far and away better IMO. The final season is amazing.
Open Controls-
Yeah? Cool. I'm just starting season 2 at the moment so quite a way to go but good to know that it gets better and better!
Open Controls

Sopranos, Dexter, The Shield, Oz, Romanzo Criminale.
Open Controls

So finally with the help of all you guys have narrowed it down to one..
which 4.0 norwich defender should i go for??
Tierney or Barnett??Open Controls-
-
-
Not 100%. Norwich practically have a brand new defence with Whittaker, Turner and Butterfield arriving, so it's hard to say how it will line-up or if Butterfield will even play in defence.
Open Controls-
Butterfield is a midfielder. The lack of NCFC knowledge on here is astounding.
Open Controls-
Can you blame us? They're not exactly the most documented team in the football world. Butterfield can play either midfield or defence, his speciality being wing back; and considering Norwich were so abysmal at defending last season, you'd think his talents would be exploited in defence.
Open Controls

Who are the tips for dark horse team this season? I think soton will surprise a few people
Open Controls-
West Ham if they can get Carroll will do well
Open Controls -
QPR
Open Controls-
+1... get gw 3-5 out the way and they could be great.
Open Controls-
Hughes has made some good signings. I hear that Chris Samba might be a late target as well although i can imagine he's on HUGE money at Anzhi. Would be an awesome signing though
Open Controls-
Would be a great signing for them, don't see it happening though.
So far, imo he's made similar mistakes to what he did at City with all the money. What's the point in signing a load of attacker and attacking midfielders when you're defence is useless. Luke Young and Anton Ferdinand in front of Rob Green...Open Controls
-
-
-
-
i like what pardew is doing @ newcastle, building a very strong team... not really a dark horse after last year though
Open Controls-
They will surely struggle to match last seasons finish
Open Controls

Is Demel and George McCartney guaranteed starting places in the line up?? (sorry for posting so much btw)
Open Controls -

Im off to bed. Night night
Open Controls-
Night RMU!! I'm sure people were distracted by 4Vets glamorous grav 😉
Open Controls

I think I'm 99% sorted on my team. Tomorrow something will be announced that changes everything and all my planning will be thrown out of the window. Hey ho!
Open Controls -
evening gents, not long in from work and read thro the last half dozen pages or so....can anyone fill me in on the petric love in rmt's i keep on seeing 😕
Open Controls-
Proven goalscorer , banging them in pre-season and scored plenty goals when Jol bossed him before
Open Controls-
He's proven precisely jack in the Premier League
Open Controls-
So? Some fail, some do well... you're got to take a bit of a risk?
He at least looks nailed on.Open Controls-
On 1 of 3 precious striker spots? Count me out!
Open Controls-
remember those words when you are scrambling for him when he hits a double against Norwich in the 1st game
Open Controls-
Well this is my point. It's not like i can't go out and get him like everyone else if he hits the ground running but i prefer to take my risks elsewhere. Good luck to you!
Open Controls
-
-
-
-
-
He's filling his boots with pre-season goals. What could possibly go wrong?
Open Controls-
Moses.... Comes to memory.
Open Controls-
Moses and Boselli were in a rotten Wigan side. Fulham are a good team especially at home and score goals
Open Controls-
He's only really popped up in so many RMTs after the pre-season goals, though.
Open Controls
-
-
There's a Croatian lad on here think's he'll do great. He also thinks Suarez is better than Messi, though, so...
Open Controls-
-
Good old Forca 🙂
Open Controls
-
-

Pre-season goals, focal point of attack, good fixtures, strong looking side imo. What's not to love?!
Open Controls-
cheers one and all 😛
Open Controls
-
-
now im leaning krul/migs combo
same price as DDG and federici
no DDG worries, newcastle and sunderland can really play tight at home even against stronger opposition.
i feel there are more CS to be had and the strongest combo with a chance to be left untouched all season.Open Controls-
i do hate the 2 gameweeks where they both play manchester clubs, but i still think its strong.
Open Controls -
could i tempt you with schwazer & ming combo? 10mil & rotate well imo
Open Controls-
its not bad, there are easy opponents, but many times they are on the road. i dont really fancy many cleanies from any of the mid priced options on the road regardless of opposition. and i still think when at home, i fancy krul a shot to keep a cleanie vs say everton more than i would schwarzer to do it say on the road at wigan. even though the wigan fixture on paper is the "easier" fixture, i feel the bulk of these cleanies will come from home.
Open Controls-
true i guess, i never really look @ home/away rotation just look @ fixtures... maybe i should start, cheers
Open Controls
-
-
-
I like your thinking FW.
Open Controls -
-
as good as spurs opening run of fixtures are, i dont see them making WHL a fortress. More 3-1 scorelines in the cards IMO than 2-0's
Open Controls-
maybe but cant argue the rotation between the two...if DDG was nailed on id do hazard > lamps and friedel > DDG but it deosn't seem that way!
Open Controls-
spurs are actively looking to replace friedel as well, if they dont do it by gw1 deadline, id hate to see him transferred between then and the end of the month.
the rotation is strong though, i like the price, and the cheap DGW for week 1, but after weighing that with the negative, i ve decided to stay awayOpen Controls-
It's a good point, that would be a nightmare. Hopefully Lloris comes in soon and is priced at 5.5
Nice straight swapOpen Controls

Right guys I'm off for the night. Talk tomorrow!
Open Controls -
So this is my final draft for tonight.. keep those comments coming
Friedel, Green
Lescott, A.Cole, Cuellar, Demel, Tierney
Y.Toure, Valencia, Hazard, Michu, Guthrie
Torres, Aguero, Di santo..
yes yes before you say anything di santo was brought in place of petric to get that 1.0 more to facilitate Yaya in my team.
Now shoot with your comments fellow deadzoners..Open Controls-
-
-
Lampard instead of Hazard and one of the Sunderland 6.5 mids for Michu. Hazard and Michu are big punts for me
Open Controls
-
-
I don't know whether to start with Fat Frank or Mata...
Open Controls-
Lamps
Open Controls -
-
I don't rate him, hasn't impressed me personally, lol I honestly think Marin is the best out of the their new signings but idk if he'll play enough
Open Controls-
+1 Hazard has been poor and RDM has said "He needs time to adjust" which is true Drogba was woeful in his first season. They guy will be hot property eventually but not at the start of this season
Open Controls
-
-
-
Mata for me. Everyone seems to have forgotten him.
Open Controls-
Thanks for the reassurance, have Mata now, will stick
Open Controls -
Do you think he will play both games? I'm sure he won't. Hazard has a much better chance.
Open Controls-
good point, idk its such a gamble
Open Controls -
He's played little in the Olympics and can't see why he wouldn't play both. He has the skill and experience whereas Hazard may be put on show early but...
Btw. Giggs, thanx for sharing your thoughts last night. It's transformed my team.Open Controls-
😳 My pleasure 4vets, glad i helped 🙂
Open Controls

Mata for sure, Lampard isn't what he was.
Open Controls

Happy with fpl team...also giving sky fantasy a go
Who would u have..
Harte 6.0 or zabaleta 5.6 or kolarov 5.9
Aguer 9.8 or tevez 9.4
Thinkin go cech 5.8/ zab 5.6/ demle 3.6/ hang or will 5.8/5.9
What ur thoughts guysOpen Controls-
Clearly Hart and Aguero IMO, but I have to admit I don't know the scoring system for Sky, never played it...
Open Controls-
Ty for reply
5 pts for cs/goal/motm
3 pts assist
2 pts 60+pass completed succesfully/4+ winning tacklesOpen Controls

My thoughts: I dont like Sky fantasy.
Open Controls
-
-
A) Lescott + cuellar + clark + mata + noble + tevez
b) Cashley + fonte + tierney + kagawa + michu + agueroOpen Controls -
What do you think guys, am I missing anything?
De Gea Federici
Ivanovic Lescott Cuellar Demel Clyne
Mata Yaya Pienaar Michu Guthrie
Aguero Torres Petric
Gw2; Mata/Torres -> Siggy/Rooney
I know the 4-point-hit isn't ideal but I really need Rooney for if he explodes and need Tottenham coverage aswell as freeing up the money.Open Controls-
A 4-point hit eliminates an Ivanovic CS. Silly.
Downgrade Yaya/Pienaar/Michu now so you'll only need to do 1 transfer.Open Controls
-
-
Public Service Announcement: Don't save 2mil for Torres to Rooney, just start with Rooney
Open Controls-
nope. Man yoo will have to grind a result out against everton (if they get one at all) and Torres is bound to get 30 chances against these 2 teams and has to score 1 maybe 2 if I am lucky.
Open Controls -
Rooneys still pissed about losing the prem, so his first game will be revenge lol
Open Controls -
Solid advice I just can't take, DGWs mess with your head!
Open Controls-
Kagawas through balls are platinum and Rooney doesn't miss 🙂
Open Controls
-
-
yeah, agree with this.....i mean, if you want rooney, why dont you just get him for gw1....and save the transfer for the unexpected things that will happen
Open Controls-
Torres is a gamble worth taking.. 8 points at worst and I see rooney getting 10 points as captain at most
Open Controls
-
-

if you said pro i'd be in... i know fifa was probably better thisyear but still stuck in my ways 🙂
Open Controls

I have two teams in mind please state which team you prefer or any tips ..

How's it going night owls 🙂
Is my back 7 too weak?
Al Habasi / Ruddy
Dawson / Rangle / Ceullar / Demel / Hughes or Kelly (Fulham)
no spare cash but any suggestions to improve are welcome 🙂Open Controls-
if hughes & dawson start you should be ok imo. looking @ other ppl's back 7's makes me realise i may have over spent!!!
Open Controls -
I would find some spare cash and improve your D with at least 1 big hitter
Open Controls -
Williams (SWA) appears to be better value than Dawson who is not necessarily guaranteed a starting spot in Spurs defence.
Also, he is incredibly injury prone. Williams is not and is nailed on.Open Controls-
double up with rangel?
Open Controls -
but i have Rangle off SWA.........
Plus by taking Ruddy I remove the uncertainty in the Norwich backline and I think Dawson gives me access to Spurs Backline for 5m ...... but I would prefer 1 cornerstone but I like my big front 7 too much 🙁Open Controls-
whats the front 7?
Open Controls
-
-
-
A little... you seem to be going the way I have gone. I have:
Friedal, Federici
Cole, Hughes, Cueller (or Sot/Wig), Rangel, Gunter
I bet you, like me, love your front 8 🙂Open Controls-
Yes I love my Big 7 🙂 but If I told ye my front 8 then you would all plagiarise my team 🙂
Open Controls -
I think that is the way to do it.
I am going with 1 expensive defender (Cole for DGW then changing to either Vidic or Lescott by GW3), one £5m def (Williams) and 3 x £4.5m boys.
People forget that the big points are scored by your mids and strikers and those are the guys you are going to put the armbands on so thats where you should be spending the bulk of your money, I reckon.Open Controls
