Having already run the rule over the Goalkeepers, and Defenders for the season ahead, the third part in our series of Members articles sees us analyse the midfielders. With the aid of our Projections we’ve analysed the average points expected per player over the course of the upcoming campaign and, applying this to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player price list, have listed the top ten in terms of expected value per Fantasy pound for the season ahead…

OK, so as an NCFC season ticket holder let me clear this up once and for all.

Barnett is our 5th choice CB, behind Bennett, Turner, Ayala and Ward.

Likely back 4 = Tierney, Turner, Bennett, R.Martin

He left us to get regular playing time. He was first choice backup to Cabaye and Tiote here and would have got games in Europe. Why would he leave to be backup elsewhere at a club without the extra games we've got this season?

Not saying he'll be back-up as such, just saying I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't start every game. I'd hope and probably believe that no-one in Reading's squad's place is nailed on really.

If he stays he can just let his contract run down. Why does Arsenal receiving nothing matter to him? Surely it'll benefit him in his choice of clubs/wages? I mean loads of clubs would take him on a free transfer and he'd be able to demand a high signing on fee and higher wages as the clubs would be in competition.

Yeah, of course. I'm saying that I'd assume Arse will either sell him or get him to sign a new contract. If he won't sign, they'll sell him now.

Anything else would be fiscally unsound.

Can't see him signing a new contract though, if he wants to leave, there's not much they can do about it tbh. They'll have to lower their asking price at some point (even if its in Jan) or risk losing him for nothing and the interested clubs know that.

They can sell him to Utd for ~20m now or, without a contract, for 0m later. Why in the world would they do that?

They bring him in, and settle it: either he stays and signs a new contract, or he leaves pronto. Anything else is suicidal.

If he won't sign and won't leave/agree terms with another club, they'll devalue him by not playing him.

I agree, but Arsenal aren't in the strong position for negotiating, the buying club are as the longer it goes on, the more Arsenal risk losing him for nothing.

Not sure how much Arsenal want but can't see them getting anything near his real value (not more than 15-20M)

I watched all of The Wire a few years back, thought it was the best show ever. Then my friend kept on bugging me to watch The Shield. It's far and away better IMO. The final season is amazing.

Not 100%. Norwich practically have a brand new defence with Whittaker, Turner and Butterfield arriving, so it's hard to say how it will line-up or if Butterfield will even play in defence.

Can you blame us? They're not exactly the most documented team in the football world. Butterfield can play either midfield or defence, his speciality being wing back; and considering Norwich were so abysmal at defending last season, you'd think his talents would be exploited in defence.

Would be a great signing for them, don't see it happening though.

So far, imo he's made similar mistakes to what he did at City with all the money. What's the point in signing a load of attacker and attacking midfielders when you're defence is useless. Luke Young and Anton Ferdinand in front of Rob Green...

same price as DDG and federici

no DDG worries, newcastle and sunderland can really play tight at home even against stronger opposition.

i feel there are more CS to be had and the strongest combo with a chance to be left untouched all season.

its not bad, there are easy opponents, but many times they are on the road. i dont really fancy many cleanies from any of the mid priced options on the road regardless of opposition. and i still think when at home, i fancy krul a shot to keep a cleanie vs say everton more than i would schwarzer to do it say on the road at wigan. even though the wigan fixture on paper is the "easier" fixture, i feel the bulk of these cleanies will come from home.

Dump Lescott (at least for the first gw) for a 5.0

          Swap Yaya to Pienaar

and thus have just about enough to do Torres > Rooney and get Petric for Di Santo.

+1 Hazard has been poor and RDM has said "He needs time to adjust" which is true Drogba was woeful in his first season. They guy will be hot property eventually but not at the start of this season

He's played little in the Olympics and can't see why he wouldn't play both. He has the skill and experience whereas Hazard may be put on show early but...

    De Gea Federici
    Ivanovic Lescott Cuellar Demel Clyne
    Mata Yaya Pienaar Michu Guthrie
    Aguero Torres Petric

    Gw2; Mata/Torres -> Siggy/Rooney

I know the 4-point-hit isn't ideal but I really need Rooney for if he explodes and need Tottenham coverage aswell as freeing up the money.

Williams (SWA) appears to be better value than Dawson who is not necessarily guaranteed a starting spot in Spurs defence.

Also, he is incredibly injury prone. Williams is not and is nailed on.

I think that is the way to do it.

I am going with 1 expensive defender (Cole for DGW then changing to either Vidic or Lescott by GW3), one £5m def (Williams) and 3 x £4.5m boys.

People forget that the big points are scored by your mids and strikers and those are the guys you are going to put the armbands on so thats where you should be spending the bulk of your money, I reckon.
