Marouanne Fellaini towers above the United defence to earn three points for Everton as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are shackled, with Robin Van Persie reduced to a cameo role. Here’s the stock check following the Goodison clash…

On The Up

Marouanne Fellaini
Pushed up in support of Nikaca Jelavic, the big Belgian was imperious and led the line with strength and composure. It’s not clear if David Moyes will persist with Fellaini in the role, with Steven Naismith and new signing Kevin Mirallas, the Everton boss clearly has options. However, this promises to be a big season for Fellaini and at 6.5 in the FPL and 4.7 in the Sky Sports Game, Fantasy managers may well be rethinking Steven Pienaar as the protagonist in Everton’s midfield ranks.

The Everton Defence
Moyes’ rearguard was defiant throughout and magnificent to a man. Leighton Baines delivered his first clean sheet of the season – he remains the luxury item in the Toffees back four but, on this form, a strong haul of clean sheets over the season could be in the offing to help justify the outlay.

David De Gea
While United struggled in attacking terms, De Gea stood firm against a first half blue tide, pulling off notable saves to keep the score deadlocked at the interval. With Anders Lindegaard breathing down his neck, the Spaniard has to produce. Tonight he was arguably United’s most impressive performer – he had to be.

Going Down

Wayne Rooney
Rooney was the danger man for United but Sir Alex Ferguson’s attacking players were far from potent. While they dominated possession and passed the ball well, they lacked a cutting edge and a direct threat. Rooney’s owners will go into the weekend clash with Fulham concerned that Robin Van Persie will be called upon to provide that, while Rooney retreats deep.

United’s Widemen
Ferguson appeared to allow his attacking players fluidity with Shinji Kawaga and Rooney interchanging up front or drifting deep to pick up the ball. The uncertainty surrounding Kawaga’s role and the likelihood of a Rooney/Van Persie pairing will cause concern. It appears we could see Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck and Kawaga competing for two starts in wide areas throughout the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm planning to hold, unless his injury looks like it will cause him to miss more than a game. He's evergreen and strong captain option all year long. That price drop only matters if you're planning to sell in the short term. If/when he comes back and bags a hat trick at home that price will pop right back up.

      FISO has him as falling.

But totalFPL, which looks more reliable, has him at halfway to a fall.

Tempted to stick with Lampard for the season, unless he gets dropped, but RDM seems to still value his influence on the Chelsea team, so hopefully he won't get benched like he did under AVB.

Anyone else here tempted by Lampard for the season? He served me well in GW1 so far, and for 9.0 seems decent value.

I might .... I picked him & Mata up for the DG, was gonna season keep Mata but looks like Hazaard might steal his thunder as the trickster.

Lampard's last glory year as a fantasy player ? I hope so.

Will prob do Mata > Kagawa or Cazarola

With Mata, Hazard & Oscar I think most of Lampards attacking points will come down to set-pieces so I personally won't be unless he starts consistently scoring..

He has been a gret fantasy asset though over the years and could still make a mockery of 9.0m but he will have to convince me first this season..

Against stronger opposition the manager might have to drop one of them & Mata seems the more light weight so I would say he may get the odd drop .... also factor in he didnt get a rest this summer

    Lost on last page:

At some point in the coming days I'll have to decide between these two.

    B) Mata > Michu, Torres > Rooney

Think i'm going to keep hold of VDV, hoping he can come good in the home fixtures in particular.

The two moves that are concerning me though are:

Torres -> Rooney OR Ramires -> Michu.

I know which looks the more obvious but i'm concerned about having no Utd attacking cover. Am I better off sussing out this United attack before I go for one? What is everyone else doing?

Also considering Torres > Rooney, but I've got that tetchy Aguero problem to deal with.

I'll probably do Aguero > Tevez, sit on Torres for another week (after all it is a home game vs NEW), and see how Utd line up at home before investing in RVP or Rooney.

personally i would take that gamble rather than do a hit. i think the odds are pretty good for him to start (or at least he will get 1 point as a sub). better than a hit imo, esp as he has good fixtures even beyond that week.

i sympathise with you having aguero added to the mix, as i feel he will be fine by gw 3 too, but obviously could lose price/value by then

all this aguero falling business has me in my first fpl quandry of the season gents......really have an aversion to losing value on any of my players early season n altho points are much more important the injury or at least doubt surrounding the argentinian's game time plus already owing tevez mean aguero is the guy to go! Now given the chance of a drop for him this eve it comes down to sticking to the original plan of bringing in either granny shagger or rvp, neither of which did owt to promote themselves this evening or the defoe move simply refuses to leave my tiny puddled mind even tho if spurs sign ade this week his game time could be limited!

any thoughts of the greater good of the scout community to clear my mind 😕

And after what happened to me last year with Roo's consecutive hatricks which my enemy captained, not sure I can stand that again. Man U also have decent fixtures beyong Fulham.

My other choice rather than the planned Aguero to Roo is Graham or Defoe.

Unavailable on GW3, same with the CHE players. Not sure for A but I'd go for B. I like Defoe, but then again, I also like Graham with Swans form like that.

So a bit unrelated, but how did Stoke look at the back the other day?

    Exploitable by, say, Arsenal?

The Britannia isn't a great place for Arsenal traditionally, but I just can't see Stoke seeing any of the ball. Arsenal with 65% possession simply has to be an away win. I'm sticking with Podolski, put it that way.

what are VDV owners doing? FT for Cazorla while the two are still on par? or wait it out and see if he begins to make the starting 11?

Definitely keeping the faith with WBA(H) and RDG(A) in Spurs' next 2. Surely just rested like Vertonghen following Holland's international fixture.

Siggy can be dropped back into DM alongside Livermore or similar, for home games, and still get forward. I'll be staggered if VDV doesn't start against WBA.

SUCH a shame about Aguero's injury making the Tevez differential even less different 🙁

Just happy that Tevez is more nailed on. now. Could easily have backfired.

On the Total FPL site, what do the red and yellow flags mean? I guess red means protected from a fall? And yellow?

Think this is my plan for this week:
    Rooney > Torres (c)
    Tevez > Aguero
    Michu > Bramble

    For a 1200000 point hit.

    Thoughts???

I've done Aguero ➡ Tevez which leaves me with 3.0 in the bank to replace Torres after GW 2. After that I'll probably downgrade Lampard to someone like Ben Arfa and then bring Aguero back in for Tevez whenever he's fit. Feels good to have it all planned out for now 🙂

Get in Baines (3 bonus points). Not looking so bad now to everyone who told me he was a bad pick and waste of funds. So much for Everton always starting badly.

Im on 83 pts with Lampard & Ivanovic (c) to play and haven't even got Michu / Dyer or Petric.

    Very happy with my start.
