The first gameweek of the season concludes tonight at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea look to take an early lead at the top of the Premier League with victory over Reading. Their commitments in next week’s Super Cup brought this fixture forward, and the Dugout Discussion opens in anticipation of delightful double-gameweek points.

The team news for tonight’s encounter is in, and the sides will line-up as follows…

Chelsea XI: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Ramires, Mikel, Mata, Hazard, Torres.

Reading XI: Federici, Gunter, Pearce, Leigertwood, Harte, Karacan, McAnuff, Guthrie, Gorkss, Pogrebnyak, McCleary.

Both teams make two changes from their opening day line-ups. For the hosts, Ramires has recovered from the illness that kept him out at Wigan, with Ryan Bertrand making way, and Gary Cahill replaces the injured David Luiz. Reading replace Hal Robson-Kanu and Adam Le Fondre with Jem Karacan and Garath McCleary.

    Well after that theatre, Ramires' 1pt keeping 18 on the bench, I can't afford any hits so maybe those feeling flush will offload Torres and he'll get a brace against Newcastle (yea, isn't going to happen!! :)).

    Still, onwards and upwards... just have a bit of catching up to do.

      Wow. Thing is, it wasn't completely unexpected... We were all looking for Fulham, Swansea and Chelsea players because of fixtures. It just went spectacularly well for some.

        I went for big expensive players plus cheapies so I didn't do that great but I think if you start off with the mid-priced guys it's a real lottery as to who does well at the start

    Ivanovic, Cole or Mata as my DGW captain and I choose Mata. Suppose I need to stop bitching about Mata as my score isn't too bad but it's so frustrating when your captain has a good game and gets zilch for it.

    Well that was an interesting game. Hazard could well be this season's Silva, every bit of Chelsea's attack goes through him and he looks to be striking up a quality understanding with Mata. If I had the money I'd put both Hazard and Lampard in there after GW3.

    But again... Torres was completely useless again tonight. Half a yard offside for his goal which obviously shouldn't have stood and a liability throughout most of the match. As devastating as their midfield looks, Chelsea won't win a single trophy this season if they have to carry him through every match. If they get a competent striker they might have an outside chance of the title.

      Defo I watched the whole game and Torres was awful. I mean bad now. He wasn't involved in any link up play and was lucky with his fluky offfside goal.
      Hazard looks like the main man for the season. Fair play to those that picked hazard. I thought he was been over-hyped. Now I feel silly.
