With Chelsea skipping the Gameweek, the early season form of Swansea and Everton ensures that their Fantasy assets hold firm in our Watchlist rankings. Up front, both Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie continue to stand out as the heavyweights of choice…

Goalkeepers

Two clean sheets in two, it’s little wonder that we see Michel Vorm retain top spot in the keeper rankings. Tim Howard climbs to second off the back of Everton’s superb start to the season – his fixtures also improve in the coming weeks, and with Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin in such strong form, further clean sheets seem likely. Howard looks a good option in goal for those without the funds to stretch to the raiding Leighton Baines.

Joe Hart’s lack of clean sheets will be a concern but with Vincent Kompany now seemingly the only secure option in front of him, the City stopper’s stock takes a rise for the month ahead for those willing to spend in this area. Hart remains the favourite as top ranked keeper, despite the early stutters and is your “fire and forget†option.

West Brom’s Ben Foster looks a decent option in the mid-price along with Newcastle’s Tim Krul, who now begins to benefit from a stronger schedule. Meanwhile, Brad Friedel has the fixture list on his side but his stock has taken a knock following persistent speculation surrounding the signing of Hugo Lloris at Spurs. Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi is your budget option lower down the rankings, with Jussi Jaaskaleinan also worth a glance or two.

Defenders

Angel Rangel retains top spot, having superseded team-mate Chico following the doubts surrounding the centre-back’s fitness going into the win over West Ham. Rangel justified the backing with a goal and clean sheet return, and with fixtures remaining strong, the enterprising right-back holds firm under pressure from Everton’s Leighton Baines in second. Baines’ form epitomises the Toffees right now and, if you’re investing heavily in your defence, the left-back looks the prize option on offer.

With clean sheets so hard to find, the temptation is to opt for cheap options and those defenders that offer attacking potential – Wigan’s Emmerson Boyce fits the bill in both cases and claims a spot in our top five courtesy of some strong short-term fixtures.

While City’s defensive returns have been non-existent, an improved fixture list, and the fact that he stands out as the only apparently secure option, boosts Vincent Kompany in our thinking for the month ahead. He clings to a top five spot, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker just retaining his place in that select group.

There are a host of mid-price options to consider below that, with West Brom’s Liam Ridgewell and Newcastle’s Steven Taylor appearing to offer decent potential.

Midfielders

Our faith in Gareth Bale wavers but Tottenham’s fixtue list remains strong enough to help him retain his top ranking, holding off the charge from United’s Shinji Kagawa, who now looks set to benefit from Wayne Rooney’s injury with a run of assured starts.

In truth, Eden Hazard would be sitting on top of the rankings had it not been for his blank at the weekend so, right now, he looks up on the likes of Hatem Ben Afra, Yaya Toure, Michu and Marouanne Fellaini as mid-price options. The latter just gets the nod over team-mate Steven Pienaar, although it’s ridiculously close between them – Fellaini’s goal threat just gives him the edge right now, while he continues to be deployed in support of Nikaca Jelavic.

Forwards

It’s no surprise to see Carlos Tevez remain on top here following his returns at Anfield on Sunday. Robin Van Persie cements his second place rank following Rooney’s injury, while Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse is the significant climber in third. The Senegalese striker now has stronger fixtures to come and will surely be well backed to break his duck for the season against Aston Villa this weekend.

Both Nikica Jelevic and Emmanuel Adebayor surely have goals to come given their forthcoming schedules, while Swansea’s Danny Graham still looks the strongest option in the budget bracket over the next month, having opened his account in the win over West Ham.

Lower down there are some great differentials if you want them – Fulham’s Mladen Petric rivals Graham in the budget bracket, as does Wigan’s Arouna Kone who impressed with his first strike at Southampton in Saturday’s win.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    On a WC, and just can't find a budget keeper rotation pairing that I'm happy with.
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkQk4QrJ-jJ3dGpEWDd5VUk4WmVoX1VCdllLWTNzR1E#gid=0

    - From GW4, Stoke go on an horrendous run of MCI che SWA liv mun SUN. Even Sunderland should be scoring goals by GW10 with Adam Johnson, Sessegnon, Larsson and Fletcher. Factor in Stoke's confidence by GW10, and I don't fancy them once their fixtures improve.

    - Other 4.5m keepers in Norwich, QPR, Reading, West Ham and Southampton, are struggling for form and/or are in teams that look unlikely to keep clean sheets.

    - Going up to 5m keepers, West Brom and Wigan have great home fixtures, but struggle to rotate with similar budget choices.

    - The value of some 5m keepers looks suspect when there are nailed on 4.5m defenders; Schwarzer - Hughes, Al Habsi - Figueroa, Mignolet - Cuellar.

    The outstanding pairings, look to be at the 10.5m (several) and 11m (ARS-TOT) price points. I think I'm either going to go with Foster or Al Habsi and a non-playing 4m keeper, or wait to see what price Lloris comes in at.

    Anyone found any gems?

        But 0.5m to upgrade Schwarzer to Szczesny or Friedal/Lloris, should reward you much more handsomely looking at the fixtures.

        To make Al Habsi or Foster worthwhile, I'm trying to find a 4.5m pairing.

        Thanks though, Viper!

      So you have looked at all the keeper pairings and you are going to settle on a £4m keeper who doesn't play and either Foster or Al-Habsi. Are you sure?

        Stoke's home fixtures form GW3-19:

        MCI SWA SUN QPR FUL NEW EVE LIV

        Really not worth considering before GW11, imo.

      Swansea/Reading?

      SUN, TOT/avl, EVE, NEW/stk, RDG, WIG, FUL, CHE, NOR, EVE, LIV, WBA, MUN, NOR, ARS, MUN, SWA/rdg, WHM, AVL, WBA

      Perfect home and away rotation, and Reading will have a double gameweek somewhere down the line.

      There maybe a better rotation to go with Vorm, this is the only one I've looked at because they're the two keepers I have! Originally planned to wildcard after week 3, but not seeing the need to anymore.

        2 x Man U's, Chelsea and an Arsenal in there - admittedly all at home, so maybe I'm being too fussy.

        I think Vorm rotates better with QPR at the 4.5m price point (question is whether they'll tighten up and Green will keep his place).

        Fulham and Sunderland pairing permits only 25 home games out of 38. While both teams are sound defensively at home in the main.

        Fixture run looks like:

        whm WBA whm WIG sot AVL sto AVL eve SUN WBA QPR nor NEW qpr sot SOT

        Yes, I like the Sunderland - West Brom pairing too. Just grates a little that spending .5m more gets you much better rotation (ARS - WBA, for instance.)

        If I can't stretch my budget, then Mignolet / Foster may be the one. DGW down the line too...

    Ivanovic -> Williams
    Ireland -> Michu (or another similarly priced midfielder)
    Probably Bale -> Hazard

    I've already made one transfer this week, do people think I should make the Ivanovic switch now and take a 4 point hit? By the time I get to the Hazard transfer, God knows what his price will be.

          Yup. But I would do that transfer for a hit. I know Hazard is doing well but would hold onto Bale until week 5. Im in the same situation - want to get rid of Cashley, and get Hazard and Michu in. Ultimately though I think im gonna get Graham - will outscore Michu in the long run I reckon, and Chelsea have tough fixtures for a while bar weeks 4 & 7 so not gonna knee-jerk

            I have Graham, and I'm doubtful Michu can maintain such good form for the long run, but such rapid price rises make me anxious. It's less me desperately wanting Michu and more me desperately not wanting Ireland.

        Thinking about it, you're quite right, my new plan (for at least the next minute or so):

        GW4 - Bale -> Hazard (unless Bale has a stormer against Norwich)
        Save GW5 transfer (unrealisiic aim probably)
        GW6 - Ivanovic -> Williams, Ireland -> Michu

      As an Everton fan, I think Pienaar will score more consistently over the season. Fellaini will have bursts (as he is now), but with Naismith, Pienaar, and Osman all playing in advanced roles, there is a good chance that Fellaini may be dropped back to play alongside Gibson, which has been his typical role since he arrived. Pienaar will always play on the left, or maybe just off the striker, so will be heavily involved in a lot of our goals.

      I just feel with Fellaini that once he has one bad game up there Moyes will shift him back into a deeper role and either Naismith or the new fella will play behind Jelavic.

    Pienaar nicks it for me.. Fellaini has a couple of things goinst him.. Firstly, the Yellow cards.. And secondly, he might be pushed back and may have to play alongside Neville/ Gibson if need be

    Made my 2 transfers already, had planned not to take any 4 points hit but, well, what can ya do..

    Torres & Ivanovic -> RVP & Baines.

    I’m sure Torres will be back in my squad at some stage if he keeps continuing to improve. Baines looked to be at the heart of all Everton’s attacking play, I always seem to miss the boat on Baines’ high scoring though.

    Should I bench Nasri and start Graham?
    I already have Michu but then again I have Tevez too...

      Bench Nasri at home to QPR? No thanks.

      You must have a better bench alternative no? (Not sure what transfer you've done this GW).

        I have transferred out Mata for Kagawa before his priced dropped.
        I basically have potential 12 starting players.
        With a bench choice of Petric, Graham or Nasri (rotation risk).

      Nasri v QPR could do very well. Wouldn't want to bench him for that game.

    Evening all from down under...

    Would appreciate your input as a first time player for my GW3 team as going on holidays 'til Tue next week. Took a 4pt hit trading out Rooney for Ade as a differential for RVP and brought in Kag for MUN cover. Have got 153 pts to date.

    Ruddy (Cech)
    Hangeland, Saylor, Demel, (Cuellar, Clark)
    Bale, Pienaar, Michu, Kagawa, (Hazard)
    Tevez (C) Adebayor, Graham

    Had Cech to Al-Habsi planned for GW3 as they rotate very well but Torres to Rooney after GW1 ruined that.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated in beating my fellow convicts!
