Robin Van Persie is subbed off at half-time during Holland’s win over Hungary. Shinji Kagawa misses out for Japan due to a back problem, Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Dzeko continue their strong starts to the season, while a Frank Lampard penalty saves a point for England as we round up all the main protagonists from last night’s international matches…

Shinji Kagawa’s Fantasy owners were handed a scare after the United midfielder pulled out of Japan’s game with Iraq. The former Dortmund man played down fears of any problem, going on to say:

“I felt a twinge in the back during practice when I was on the ball. I had some treatment but didn’t want to risk causing the team trouble by playing. Obviously it’s a shame I wasn’t able to play… It’s not that serious and I don’t think it will keep me out for long”.

Nevertheless, there will be concerns over Kagawa’s fitness heading into Saturday’s match with Wigan. Sir Alex Ferguson has been careful with his game time in the last couple of league games, subbing off the summer signing from Dortmund around the hour mark and with Wayne Rooney injured and Van Persie’s official prognosis still unknown, we face an anxious wait until the club releases statements. With a Champions League clash against Galatasaray the following Wednesday, Ferguson is unlikely to take any unnecessary risks.

The United boss also has Antonio Valencia and Javier Hernandez to travel back from matches in Uruguay and Mexico respectively. The pair enjoyed contrasting evenings, Valencia seeing red on 90 minutes in Ecuador’s draw with Uruguay, while Javier Hernandez netted the winner for Mexico in their 1-0 win over Costa Rica. Ferguson will now hope to get both back unscathed as he assesses his squad prior to the Wigan clash. The Friday morning press conference can’t come soon enough for many.

Branislav Ivanovic continued his superb start to the season with a goal and two assists in Serbia’s 6-1 thrashing of Wales last night. City’s Aleksandar Kolarov also played a part for the victors, providing a goal and assist in what was described in some quarters as an “inspirational performance”. Gareth Bale served a reminder of his eye for goal by lashing home a long-range free-kick for Chris Coleman’s side as a consolation. QPR’s Jamie Mackie provided an assist in Scotland’s home draw with Macedonia, while Zoltan Gera provided an assist in Hungary’s defeat by Holland – a foul on the West Brom midfielder in the box led to a converted spot-kick by Balasz Dszudszak.

John Arne Riise played a crucial part in Norway’s 2-1 win over Slovenia – the Fulham left-back hammered home a spot-kick deep into time added on to seal the three points for the hosts. Jonny Evans picked up an assist in Northern Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Luxembourg – the Man United centre-half teed up Dean Shiels to put his national ahead early in the first-half. Reading centre-half Kaspars Gorkss gave Latvia the lead in Bosnia but the hosts, led by Edin Dzeko with a goal and two assists, ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.

Frank Lampard saved England’s blushes with a late spot-kick earning a home draw against Ukraine, with Danny Welbeck providing the assist. Reading’s Alex Pearce climbed off the bench to net for Republic of Ireland in a 4-1 win over Oman; Shane Long was also amongst the goals for Giovanni Trapattoni’s side. Swansea new boy Ki-Sing Yeung turned in a mixed performance for South Korea yesterday. The midfielder’s own goal handed Uzbekistan the lead but he somewhat atoned for his error by providing an assist for his nation’s equaliser in a 2-2 draw.

Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard and Geoff Cameron were all in the US starting XI that sealed a 1-0 win over Jamaica. Dempsey played the full 90 minutes for the US as he looks to build up his fitness ahead of his debut for Spurs. A bench role looks likely for the former Fulham man when Andre Villas-Boas’ side travel to Reading on Sunday.

            Conspiracy theories?

The report released today would suggest otherwise.

Also, I believe there are a lot of fans of football on this site, of which this subject is very much linked.

The PM in parliament, on the report and how it affects Merseyside and the rest of the country:

"This appalling death toll of so many loved ones lost was compounded by an attempt to blame the victims. A narrative about hooliganism on that day was created which led many in the country to accept that it was somehow a grey area.

Today’s report is black and white. The Liverpool fans “were not the cause of the disaster”. The Panel has quite simply found “no evidence” in support of allegations of “exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans ”no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium” and “no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying.”

Probably, but I guess it's an option, especially if RVP is actually hurt/out of form, it's an easy way to get Aguero in.

I'm sticking with tevez...cheaper and on end of last seasons evidence they compliment each other well and should both score well. Ageuro's poor away form is also a concern in comparison to tevez.

For what it's worth, I'm leaning towards holding on to Tevez. Aguero got subbed off at 60 a lot last year so if they're both starting most weeks I think it's more likely Aguero will get subbed for Dzeko/Balotelli or Tevez if he didn't start.

Having doubts about this RVP (C) now. No rush to take him out, but I could see a 60min appearance killing me with 1-2pts.

Have Cazorla and Podolski (SOU), Hazard (qpr) and Tevez (stk) as realistic picks otherwise.

I think if he starts, Fergie will ony take him off after 60mins if Utd are winning. And the odds are, if United have scored, RVP will have had some sort of involvement.

      I think the only risks are;
      - He wont play at all (Which isn't too bad because of autosub)
      - He will be subbed off after 60 odd mins with utd in the lead (More than likely at least 5 points)
      - He will play full 90 as United are chasing the game on end up with only 2 points (Unlikely situation IMO)

So I would captain RVP with a strong (vc). Personally I am going to go for Cazorla

I'm going to Germany (from Australia) on a 3 week trip from tomorrow. Very excited but don't think I'll have much time looking at my FPL team, haha! So if you guys could please tell me if this team needs any changes before I go to Deutschland, that would be great!:

    DDG
    Zab, Rangel, Hangeland (WBA)
    Hazard (vc), Kagawa, Michu, Pienaar
    RVP (c), Tevez, Graham
    0.7m, 0FT (-4pt)

Subs: Foster // Cuellar (LIV), Kaca (WBA), Demel (nor)

Don't think I need to make any transfers as I've already taken a hit except for maybe Kags -> Cazorla (but I think/hope Kagawa will play) Main conundrum is playing one of Hangeland (Fulham at home is good but against in form WBA), Cuellar (solid defence and out of form LIV at home), Kaca (attacking potential) and Demel (away but already 2 cleanies)

Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard and Geoff Cameron were all in the US starting XI

Cameron is one I am interested in. If he is a starter for US he surely is brought to Stk to be starter too. He plays in mid and he is 4.5m defender, Surely worth punt?

Will Adam effect his place in the first 11 or they will play on different position?

They could very well still play together, but having having a 4.5 defensive midfielder seems unwise.

Look at Wilson - 4.5 and on of the highest ranked defenders for threat and creativity. Also a solid provider of crosses last season with a decent completion rate. I would be taking a punt if I didn't have begovic

How to fit in Cazorla (On WC):

              Foster - Begovic
              Baines - Gibbs - Williams - Cuellar - Demel
              Hazard - Yaya - Michu - Pienaar - Guthrie
              RVP - Tevez - Petric

              0.2 in the bank

              A) Gibbs > Hughes or someone
              Yaya > Cazorla

              B) Baines > Hughes or someone
              Pienaar > Cazorla

Cheers for any help lads 🙂

Taking Baines out is ludicrous. Don't do that.

I think Gibbs and Williams could become a Bertrand (for a gamble) or Figueroa as a safety option and if you are set on keeping Baines, I don't think I would want Pienaar as well. Petric could come out too but in terms of raising funds there isn't anyone bar Pog but you have Guthrie.

Not sure what's best there but Yaya to Cazorla is good and I still feel Santos is going to start occasionally as I'm not convinced that he'll 'rest' Gibbs in Champs Lge games - could yet be the other way round - (H) Southampton-Santos (A) Montpellier-Gibbs.

Gibbs to Bertrand and Yaya to Cazorla.

G'day lads! I won't be around on friday and will have no access to internet so won't be able to wait on news of RVP. I reckon RVP will either play 0/60/90.

Would you be confident of captaining RVP if you knew he was going to play 60? If he plays 0 then my VC comes into play and if he plays 90 then its grand.

So risk it or captain a guaranteed 90 min player?

                Here is my reply to a previous post. It seems relevant;

I think if he starts, Fergie will ony take him off after 60mins if Utd are winning. And the odds are, if United are winning, RVP will have had some sort of involvement.

                I think the only realistic options are;
                - He wont play at all (Which isn’t too bad because of autosub)
                - He will be subbed off after 60 odd mins with utd in the lead (More than likely at least 5 points)
                - He will play full 90 as United are chasing the game on end up with only 2 points (Unlikely situation IMO)

So I would captain RVP with a strong (vc). Personally I am going to go for Cazorla

You seem to suggest that Man U will either be winning by 60 mins and he comes off or he stays on and gets 2pts. There's 30 mins of action at the end where he could still score, but as the goals are late he stays on.

if fit he will start. Imo the risk is having rvp is capt for 60 mins. if they are ahead comfortably then i reckon he will be pulled off, (the damage will already be done). If close he might get the full 90.
A 20-30 min cameo is unlikely, unless he starts and aggrevates the injury

Hazard has the best chance out of that lot. Tevez vice perhaps.

Last question guys (for this GW team)

              A. Bale and Noble Out - Hazard and Cazorla In (for a -4pts hit)

              B. Noble In - Hazard Out (and hope Bale explodes...)

Gone very cheap in defence but i suppose thats understandable.
                2 Demel's might be a bit overkill :-p

Brilliant team, 9.5/10. You lose half a point because I don't like Graham but he is still a decent option.

Yeah looks good, I suppose Graham gives some peace of mind over not having Michu too.

Perhaps £1m too cheap in defence for me, but I can see why you've done it. You pretty much have the best player from the top 8 teams in there... ignoring Liverpool while their fixtures are still tough.

Can you afford that? I'm on wc and am £0.6m short and have decent value as it is!!

Another thing, I know there is always the chance of rotation but what is the likelihood that Hazard is given a rest before the champions league? (He played 90 mins twice during the break didn't he?)

I'll be going RVP (c) Hazard (vc) so don't want a doubt over both..

Who to captain for us lost souls, bereft of RVP?

              Cazorla or Hazard?

Arsenal have got the easier game, Hazard has turned his hard work into points more succesfully.

Also have Tevez, Michu, Jelavic or Bale if I fancied going leftfield??
