It didn’t take long. As the template squad took shape over the international break, it has taken just one day of Gameweek 4 for it to show cracks.

The script seemed very unlikely. Robin Van Persie rested. Carlos Tevez withdrawn on the hour mark. Eden Hazard and Michu traveling home empty-handed. Santi Cazorla delivering just a single assist amongst an Emirates goal glut. Form was on their side but today’s failure of fancied “big guns” offered a rapid reminder just how fickle Fantasy fortunes can be.

To compound matters, some notable differentials stepped up. Dimitar Berbatov delivered on his full debut. Steven Fletcher scored his third goal in two games. Gervinho tempted us with a brace as the Gunners ran riot and, in the same match, Lukas Podolski notched his second in consecutive matches. We just need the likes of Gareth Bale and Nikaca Jelavic to break the shackles and we’ll have real movement; real discontent amongst the pack who threw Wildcards at the two-week break only to find the humblest of returns at the end of the rainbow.

It was inevitable that the cast would be extended, that we’d have new names to add to our watchlists and edge their way into our thinking. The failure for the early season form players will doubtless spark reaction – the pace of Berbatov’s bandwagon will be interesting and likely to be fuelled by those looking for an immediate fix to a hugely disappointing day.

Of course there should be faith that class will win through, that today’s events will be a rarity, but the timing is poor. Having procrastinated and tinkered over the break, the expectations were high and that will doubtless find knees jerking and cats kicked. For the majority, it’s been a day to forget but then perhaps we got what we deserved.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My knee certainly has jerked! 3rd consecutive 4 point hit now..

    DDG & Graham -> Jaask & Berbatov

I wanted rid of DDG & I didn't want to be dependin on both Michu & Graham, spread the risk!

Graham to berb can wait a week, if price rise isn't a problem.

I'm still happy with the template team. I even like to see the other players score more points, unless everyone have the same team, that makes this game interesting.

Hello all. A relatively pants GW for me too 🙁 I've a couple of questions for you messrs.

    A) Would you rather have Lambert @ 6.0 or Berbatov/Fletcher @ 7.0?
    - I'm a little wary of Fulham being a relatively "home" team in terms of goalscoring. Might see a little too many blanks from Berba to warranty his inclusion? Just thinking out loud here.

    B) Need HBA + Guthrie to get 9 points more than a Jelavic 2 pointer to win my H2H. How probably is that?

    Cheers gents.

Absolutely sick of players coming of benchs with big points. I've been saying for 3 years any subs coming into a team should only receive half their points total with odd numbers rounded up. Also we should all live and die by our captains pick. Would love to see this crap scrapped

Great ideas IMO as I dislike luck happening too often, but they will only make the game easier to bring in more players, for example, the January Wildcard.

I would like Wildcards scrapped completely myself.

Definitely not essential, I'd give Bale one more shot next GW and if he fails, get in Caz/Haz.

I'd do Kagawa to HBA this GW and save the other one and then get Berba in for Ba GW7

I love Berbs as I am a Fulham fan but still not sure how Jol is going to use him away from home. Staying away until I see more, hopefully before the bandwagon really gets going.

Rather reluctantly ive hit the wc button after today I realised my team was a sorry state of affairs

    Ddg/Fed
    Cuellar/Clyne/Zabaleta/Demel/Cole
    Michu/Cazorla/Hazard/Noble/Kacaniklic
    Rvp/Tevez/Graham

I wanted to hold on till the next international break but seeing how people didn't make the money they expected to and looking at my team I felt action had to be taken, my current draft looks like this

    Jaask/Beg
    Baines/Davis/Ridgewell/Clark/Hughes
    Michu/Cazorla/Hazard/Pienaar/Sterling
    Rvp/Tevez/Berba

Sorry for the long winded post but would really welcome some suggestions on this proposed team, and possible ways to improve it, slightly worried about the defence.

I must say I am very happy that I didn't opt for DDG or Brad or Vorm and went with unique gaolkeeper combo Jussi/ Ruddy. Perfect rotation for now and points all the time. I expect WHam to concede next game although. According the law of average. My initial plan to have Jask ans Henderson and to save 0.5m was good also. I would have 3-4 pts less but extra 0.;5m.

Anybody else happy with goalies, anyone got more pts in first 4GW's?

Out of interest, why are people getting rd of DDG?

When you got him in before GW1 (cos everyone else was getting him and Fed) didn't it not dawn on you in large looming letters that he was a rotation risk and some weeks he would be replaced by Lindegaard?

Really? Why has this weekends events suddenly surprised you into transferring him out????

I was looking at it. If he played, I'd have bigger issues in defence to fix. But why not admit the decision to take him in the first place was an error and move on with someone who at the very least is assured a start.

For me, there is not enough to convince me to keep him.

I honestly thought he'd be undisputed No.1 this season, at least in the PL games (Obviously I was wrong!)

One game I let go, 2 in a row I don't think I can. Also bad run of fixtures for Man U so less chance of me taking him out on a CS week!

Sorry, but I never understood the stampede for him when this was always likely to happen and it was inevitable that some weeks you would lose him and Lindy would keep a cleanie.

If it makes it any better I have Green as my 2nd keeper. I will just play Schwarzer every week until I have a free transfer I can spend on a new GK or I'll wait until I WC.

However, I didn't foresee QPR buying Cesar. Everyone should have forseen DDG being benched at some point.

Seems I made a bad call but surely Fergie can't go one rotating keepers for much longer. If he doesn't rate De Gea highly enough to play him every game then they need to go back to the drawing board and buy someone else.

How many successful teams don't have a stable keeper?

Fergie rotates everyone. See RVP today.

Personally, I'd prob keep DDG until I WC, as long as my 2nd keeper is an active one and not some £4.0m chump who you knew was not his teams first choice but thought it would be a good wheeze to get a rotation risk first GK and compliment him with a backup who doesn't start?

No Ronnie and still he was rested/ benched. Tough upcoming schedule and no chance Fergie letting them loosing in the group stage again.

Ade, Podolski, Kun soon are way much better value for now. It will be interesting having WC team without Robin the almighty.

ideal option might be from Swansea, but Williams is just a bit too much at 5.0 (have 4.9)

what about Fox from Southampton? might want to add him at some point (assists potential); he might decline in value though, and Southampton are doing poorly

I think I am going to try to hold on until Aguero is fully fit before using my wc. My forward line could do with a shake up once there is a little clarity about form. Certainly this week is no time for overreaction. It is always funny after the international break.

GW8 is a decent time to use the WC if you still have it. International break and much better time to assess who the best options in most teams are.

3 weeks into the season is always a crapshoot and I am glad I did not use my WC last week.

Some people will always throw wc and points away with needless transfers.

Also Swans are going on a bad run but Utd fixtures then again pick up. Isn't the Utd tough run better for WC?

I have to say I have completely knee jerked and brought in Berbatov today for Petric today. It was him or Fletcher and he just has more quality. Fletcher has better fixtures though.

If nothing else Berbatov will make you more money I think.

No point just to beat price rise that I actually go for B.Arfa and S Taylor. I should let the game on Monday play out, right?

With the exception of Utd, B.Arfa could easily do really well in the other fixtures.

You have just managed to turn all of them into super-favorable fixtures. Good work, indeed. 🙂

Haha there's always one stat that'll back up what you wan't to say!

Awesome day that was! Shola tore Phil Jones to shreds, it was about the time that everyone seemed to think he was the best CB in the world and the new Beckenbauer!

Sunderland away is always tricky. And I'm not a big fan really. I wouldn't go for him as I think there's better value in the price bracket of 6-6.5

I was on WC but refrained from bringing in Rvp and I'm ok with my time, however the inevitable triple price rise from berba makes me want to use my free transfer to either:
    1 lambert to berba
2 jellavich to berba (I know he did not pay yet but I have baines and pienaar for cover anyway)
    3 save the transfer

No other pressing Matters with my team - what say you oh wise men?
