Gameweek four concludes tonight at Goodison Park, as Everton play host to Newcastle United. The Dugout Discussion opens to see two sides with high ambitions for the season tussle it out. The team news is in and is as follows…

Everton XI: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Mirallas, Neville, Osman, Pienaar, Fellaini, Jelavic.
Newcastle XI: Harper, Perch, Williamson, S Taylor, Santon, Anita, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Cisse.

David Moyes makes two changes from the side that suffered defeat at the hands of West Brom in matchday three, with Tony Hibbert and Kevin Mirallas starting in place of Darron Gibson and Steven Naismith.

As for the visitors, Steve Harper replaces the injured Tim Krul, and James Perch and Mike Williamson patch up the defence in the absence of Danny Simpson and Fabricio Coloccini. Slyvain Marveaux is a surprise inclusion, as Demba Ba drops to the bench.

Baines also got a haul at Swansea last year.

        Just a standard reaction. Baines is still playing great and is a great option. Just not essential. Don't think a defender ever has been (except maybe when Bale was wrongly classified)

Congrats to those that captained Baines. The idea crossed my mind but I couldn't look beyond RVP.

I’d decided to knee-jerk and sell Adebayor and buy Berbatov…

But is this really so smart? I’m already sitting on cash and I’m reluctant to take money out of my forward line because I’m struggling to spend it in midfield. Cazorla has tough fixtures and I’d rather have Podolski in a couple of weeks anyway so that really only leaves the unexciting Yaya as a worthwhile target so far as I can see?

And is Petric really dropped? Fair enough that people are selling him because he’ll likely be rotated more than we imagined. But if that’s true he’ll surely be rotated with Berbs. WIG(A) MCY(H) SOT(A) could easily see somebody slow and lazy only getting limited time on the pitch if Jol’s looking for a bit of snap up front to play on the break. Wigan aren’t soft touches any more and I doubt that Fulham will run them ragged in an away game like Man Utd did at home.

Does anyone agree with any of this long-winded question and can you think of alternatives to Berbs?

  Berbatov is too big an asset for Fulham. He is nailed on. And selling Ade was a smart move because he isn't in the team atm. AVB won't be changing his system any time soon either so Ade is not first choice while Defoe continues this form.
