A game of goals and controversy at Goodison Park brings Gameweek 4 to a conclusion. Here’s the Stock Check from the tonight’s tumultuous 2-2 stalemate…

On the Up

Leighton Baines
We could hardly have pushed the virtues of Baines any harder over the international break and the Everton left-back didn’t take long to demonstrate why. Linking superbly with Steven Pienaar, Baines covered himself in glory with a fine strike to cap another superb display.

Steven Pienaar
Two assists from the South African demonstrated his worth and effectiveness down the Everton left with Baines. Pienaar also threaded the pass for Victor Anichebe’s strike and was only denied further returns by the assistant’s flag. Significantly, despite strong returns from Marouanne Fellaini in the opening games, bonus for Pienaar would take him above the Belgian in the Fantasy Premier League rankings.

Demba Ba
The evening began with the Senegal striker on the timber, only for him to be introduced to turn the game in the second half. A rollercoaster evening for his 16% ownership that ended in confirmation that Ba is the man in form in the Newcastle frontline.

Going Down

Nikaca Jelavic
The Croatian crashed into a post early on and finally relented to the blow just before the break after suffering further knocks. Everton badly missed his influence in the second-half and David Moyes and Jelavic’s Fantasy owners will desperately hoping that he has escaped with a minor setback. We await the prognosis.

Papiss Cisse
Selected ahead of Ba to lead the line, Cisse was again overshadowed by his compatriot. His Fantasy owners will doubtless be twitching with frustration and mystified as to how Cisse’s strike rate has diminished so markedly given last season’s electric form.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Question on price rises/falls

If you buy a player for say 5m and he drops .2 to 4.8.
They he goes on a tear and goes up to 5.4 do you get the .6m as a price rise or .4 (.3 or .2 in actual profit)

I think you get the 0.2 back that you lost and then An 0.2 profit for the 0.4 rise thereafter, as it says in the relevant section in the rules that only profits are subject to the sell-on fee.

"The price shown on your transfers page is a player's selling price. This selling price may be less than the player's current purchase price as a sell-on fee of 50% (rounded up to the nearest £0.1m) will be applied on any profits made on that player."

I'd also try to find a way to play both, but benching Cazorla? I've considered this, but think it's too risky. He did well away at Liverpool, and City have conceded in every game so far.

I'm somewhat apprehensive about it, but I can't see City continuing to leak goals. I'm guessing 1-0 or 1-1 in that game.

I've just WCed so my team's in decent shape. Am totally considering Cazorla out and Barfa in for a couple of weeks.

Would definitely play Cazorla. If it comes to unlocking the defence (as opposed to just running through an awful Southampton defence) Caz should be the #1 route for stuff to happen. City's defence has been awful so far.

Not convinced by Swansea short term in the absence of Chico and Taylor. A West Brom defender looks decent, Ridgewell, McAuley and Olsson are all big goal threats too.

Other than that squad doesn't look like it urgently needs any changing at all. Do you have enough in the bank for a straight swap from Jenkinson to a West Brom defender?

Thanks guys, just concerned about the number of players who are playing against eachother as attack negates defensive points and stops big points hauls from developing.

Would rather just gamble and go for two defenders or two attackers from teams playing against eachother in the same game than go one defender from one team and one attacker from another.

Probably the higher rate of Clean sheets this week brought up the average, there was a few to go round.

Isacki, do you think I should do Giroud>Ba immediately? Giroud is close to dropping again and I'm almost certain I want to make the move over Berbatov, I want to get Berb in later, and I've planned a formula with 2/3 transfers later on to get him in. That is accounting for any rises he makes etc. If I bring Berba in later it will be at the expense of one of my midfielders, which makes sense because I will then have 3 decent strikers to play 3-4-3 instead of 3-5-2.

In a word, yes! Fixtures look decent for the short term and Newcastle show they can score anywhere. If you're getting Berba in later I assume it will be for Ba, which would make sense as his fixtures aren't good forever.

Ba is also on penalties I think,

Thoughts on my latest kneejob? My WC is activated. So feel free to share your opinion(s)!
    A)
    Foster - Bego
    Baines - Saylor - Hughes - Demel - Rafael
    Michu - Santi - Bale - Sterling - Hazard
    BA - Tevez - Berba
    ---------------------------
My second option is going weak at the back but grabbing RVP.
    B)
    Jussi - Bego
Saylor - Ridgewell - Demel - Davies - Nelson (Probably Gorkss instead since Mbia is back)
    Michu - HBA - Bale - Sterling - Hazard
    RVP - Tevez - Berba

Plan here is to get 2FT in GW7 to do
    Saylor -> Hughes
    HBA -> Santi

    So A or B - if any? 🙂

just wondered about your thoughts on a potential post GW7 wc (activated on Saturday straight after FPLre-opens)

International break so plenty of time to play price rises, plus starting GW8 your boys have great fixtures, leaves the opportunity to get in 2 from Caz, Pod, Sagna and Gibbs (leaning towards Sagna and Pod atm).

That was always my plan, until I got ambushed by dropped players and price changes in GW3, and I think that's sensible particularly as you have around 5-6 players who need to go. Might as well get a small hit out of the way now to keep you going.

I have made 1 this week, plan on -4 next week to dump Noble and Marv to Pienaar/Morrison/Ramirez and Sterling. Then I might just take a 1 week punt (or get a keeper since Migs is away at City).

Would you take Pod or Caz, not sure i can afford both. Plan on getting Sagna

And yes I will definitely have Cazorla by GW8, and will have done my best to get an Arsenal defender in. TBH Gibbs is tempting me just as much as Sagna. This is his year. He is becoming top drawer material.

Injury prone I really can't judge, see the number of injuries for most players is so small that it's hard to know whether we're seeing a real trend or just random noise/bad luck. For example RVP is known as injury prone and fragile - but most of his injuries are impact injuries from being horribly hacked.

just took a look it essentially comes down to

Cazorla, Sagna + 6 million striker

            Podolski, Gibbs and Pienaar

              B. I assume Sagna and Gibbs are roughly equal. Podolski & Pienaar is definitely better than Caz & 6m IMO.
