As the dust settles on another Gameweek, we roll out our early-week regular. Once again, we focus on the main protagonists in the Scout League, while casting an eye over the transfer market as trades pick up pace on the back of the weekend’s action:

Scout League Standings

Renoir Buffon remains at the top, despite taking a four point hit to get rid of Robin Van Persie and Carlos Cuellar. Jermain Defoe and Branislav Ivanovic were the replacements, with Defoe then handed the armband for a 16 point return. Elsewhere, Ivanovic, Steven Taylor and Liam Ridgewell all chipped in with clean sheets, while Hatem Ben Arfa and Dimitar Berbatov both provided eight points apiece for a Gameweek total of 59 (after points deductions) to leave Renoir sitting ninth overall in the world on 394 points.

Second place goes to the mysterious MP after he racked up 82 point to move to 33rd overall, on 386 points. A back-three of Rafael, Ivanovic and Leighton Baines accrued 28 points, while captain Gareth Bale, Kevin Nolan and Steven Pienaar all produced in midfield. Up front, Van Persie, Carlos Tevez and Rickie Lambert notched three goals between them.

Andy Fox sits in third position in the Scout League. Chelsea pair Petr Cech and Ivanovic produced clean sheets at the back, while a strong-looking midfield five of Eden Hazard, Pienaar, Ben Arfa, Santi Cazorla and Shinji Kagawa returned 32 points between them. Berbatov and Tevez led the line in, while Rafael’s 11 point haul at Anfield was left on the bench – despite this, Andy accrued 58 points to climb to 37th overall.

Dave Fitzgibbon slips down to fourth place after a 53 point haul last time out. Rafael and Ivanovic were the main protagonists at the back, while Cazorla, Shane Long and captain Defoe all picked up attacking returns as Dave moved to 384 points overall.

Former world number one Asriel Chen makes up the top five. Ivanovic and Taylor returned clean sheets in defence, while Marouane Fellaini, Demba Ba and captain Van Persie all chipped in as Asriel recorded a 52 point haul, moving him to 48th overall.

For the Contributors League, Anorak takes over at the top. A back-three of Rafael, Ivanovic and Baines produced 28 of his 48 points this Gameweek, with Kagawa the only attacking player to pick up attacking points. Andy joins him on 324 points overall but sits second as he’s made the most transfers of the duo.

The Market Trends

Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines are picking up plenty of interest ahead of next weekend’s home clash with Southampton. Fellaini is far and away the most popular player this week – over 75,000 Fantasy managers have transferred the Belgian in since his 12 point display against Swansea on Saturday, while Baines has made his way into almost 40,000 new teams.

Ashley Cole and Rafael have both been snapped up by almost 18,000 Fantasy managers as backlines are assessed, while West Brom’s Gareth McAuley continues to prove popular after returning his third home clean sheet of the season in the 1-0 win over Reading. The West Ham backline is tempting plenty right now – Jussi Jaaskelainen, Guy Demel and Winston Reid have been drafted in by a combined 33,000 since last Saturday’s deadline.

Up top, Steve Fletcher and Demba Ba lead the way for transfers in, with 40,000 and 35,000 respectively picking up the mid-price duo, while Rickie Lambert’s brace against Villa has persuaded almost 30,000 to scramble for his signature despite a tricky trip to Everton up next. Dimitar Berbatov continues to climb in price – 21 points in his two starts for Fulham has led to over 20,000 grabbing a piece of the Bulgarian.

In terms of transfers out, the faith in Swansea’s midfield has taken a real battering after another goalless game last weekend. Nathan Dyer has been sold on by over 50,000 Fantasy managers, while Michu has exited over 32,000 teams. Although a trip to Stoke looks tricky this weekend, the Swans them host Reading and Wigan at the Liberty – surely enough reason to hold right now.

Fernando Torres’ failure to notch against Stoke has seen 44,000 transfer out the Spaniard, while Mladen Petric continues to plummet in our estimations. The latter has dropped 0.3 in price over the last two Gameweeks now that he has seemingly lost his place in Martin Jol’s starting XI. Carlos Tevez’s first bench appearance of the season has caused panic – the most popular player in FPL with over 50% ownership, the Argentine been moved on by over 20,000 managers now that Sergio Aguero is back for City.

Looking to get some Arsenal defensive cover after their game against Chelsea.

    - I already have a big hitter in defence = Baines
    - Gibbs at 5.7 is a wee bit pricey for my liking
    - Koscielny to challege Mertesacker now after his goal yesterday
    - Jenkinson under threat from an incoming Sagna

    A) Wait for the situation to become a little clearer
    B) Get Gibbs at 5.7

Haven't been following the sitaution closely but I'd imagine Kosc if first choice once fully fit irrespective of the goal?

Get Jenkinson/Gibbs, switch to Sagna when appropriate.

A - you can happily wait out 2 London derbies, one with Chelsea one away at a Sam Allardyce team (who has a happy knack of scoring against Arsenal). You should have a clearer picture at that stage.

Gibbs could be the one though. Still excellent value anything 6.0 at the moment. He seems to have one his battle with Santos.

I'm really starting to find the Fellaini over Pienaar thing a bit unsettling, is it really justified? Fellaini is a great threat from set pieces but Pienaar can create anything with the ball at his feet. Plus he's cheaper...

Fellaini is mainly a threat aerially and his strength is his asset, Pienaar doesn't even need to do much other than slip the ball through to someone and he's got assists. Pienaar's more reliable imo. Fellaini has to really graft to get points.

No. He played there when Jelavic was fit. Moyes is playing anyone and everyone in the deep role to keep Fellaini up there. Having said that, I still think Pienaar is a better long-term option.

No. Mirallas has been, and will continue to play RW. Favourite for the role behind Jelavic if Fellaini gets pused back (which he won't) is Naismith - they played the same roles at Rangers and it worked mightily well.

He was playing further forward towards the end of last season as well. Grabbed 2 goals and 2 assists in the final 5 games.

The reason would be Gibson signing, and now that Fellaini was moved up behind the striker Moyes isnt pushing him back.

I think Fellaini has played himself into the attacking role and Moyes isn't going to ruin a good thing, he's too smart for that. Fellaini is almost unplayable in the air. I was hoping the in-the-hole role was a temporary thing but after watching the last few Everton games, it's obvious that's where he should be best played to make the most of his skills, strength and height. I now have both Pienaar and Fellaini as well as Baines. Well worth it for their run of good fixtures.

I suppose my main reason for asking is that if Fellaini is 'nailed on' to play in his current position he's a brilliant fantasy prospect. If he reverts to his previous position he becomes a fairly uninspiring pick. I currently have Pienaar who I'm happy with as his role is always going to be an attacking one but this Fellaini thing is interesting...

Fellaini is not competing with Pienaar and they actually compliment each other and both could score well. While Fellaini is causing opponent's defences all sorts of problems, Moyes will continue to play him there. Change might only come when Fellaini stops being a threat when opposition make special plans to keep him subdued, as I'm sure his exploits have not gone unnoticed by Everton's opposition.

I'm not concerned with one taking points off the other, I mention Pienaar only because people seem to be choosing between the two a lot at the moment.

I guess Pienaar is a safe long-term bet, I'm trying to establish if Fellaini has any question marks over his role.

Probably Saturday night was the time to do it, but ah well.

I would like to keep Michu for sto, RDG, WIG. And Hazard is surely a rotation risk for NOR in GW7 (the one you'd really want him for) and he has ars, tot either side.

You raise at interesting point there about him being a rotation risk for NOR. Im keeping him in just for that game and will probably captain him. I don't think he is a rotation risk though, fitter than the rest of the creative players and looks like he's higher in RDM's teamsheet than Mata. I don't think he will rest him though, with the International break straight after, there is nothing to rest him for.

RDM isn't Mancini though. He won't rest Hazard because he's not an idiot. Can't quite begin to fathom what Mancini was thinking with his team selections vs. Real and Arsenal. SAF is starting to make strange tactical decisions too - Giggs in central midfield at Anfield? Doesn't have the legs.

I just did it (Hazard), but not because I had given up on Hazard. I needed to plunder Hazard to afford Baines. The rotation thing worries me long term, if not at Norwich, and I think other players are better value for money than Hazard in the end. But I might find myself desperately trying to get him back in in a few weeks . . . .

Stick with Michu for a couple of weeks.

Getting some interesting results when comparing players' performance home vs away.

Try it with Mignolet as an obvious example - seems to show he hasn't yet played at home.

Same thing for other players too, I think it's chopping off the last home and away appearance (Ben Arfa was the one I started off on, the comparison tool says he's had 2 home appearances and 1 away when he's played every game).

Just checked and the same is true under the 'Player Profiles' and 'Player Stats' sections - I think the problem is with the 'Home Matches Only' and 'Away Matches Only' filters.

mmm...I'll take a look. The nature of our data did change last week and we had to reimport from scratch overnight. I wonder if there's been an issue with the re-import.

Thanks Mark, out of interest do you guys lurk at all times or do you have any sort of 'flags' set up in the comments system for when people post something with 'scouts' or 'Mark' or similar? Always impressed with how quickly you arrive on the scene!

We get flagged if we get an abuse report but generally I just pop in and scan regularly. You can always email at support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk too.

I think I've found the issue. We changed the way data was picked up and added to our db from Gameweek 4 and it seems, from that point, the home/away flags on matches was not assigned correctly. The data is all in and correct, it's just the flag that's missing which means the filter is not finding the data.

I've reported to Ed and we'll make it a priority to fix.

    WC. Draft No.2:

    Begovic (Foster) Rotate.
Baines Gibbs Rafael (Demel)(Clyne) 2 of the starting 3 start every week, with rotation working nicely.
Cazorla HBA Fellaini Sterling (Puncheon) Latter 2 rotate beautifully.
RVP Fletcher(c) Berbatov Fletcher a one week punt, changing to Aguero next week.

    Thoughts?

Midfield looks weak. Having both RVP and Aguero is far too risky and affects your team too much. Choose one or the other (Obviously if you have RVP you can have Tevez and strengtehn midfield).

It does look quite weak but I'd say that's just because of their value. I'd rate both HBA and Fellaini higher in terms of form and fixtures over Hazard and Bale right now. You know?

Silva at 9.6m starting to look like good City cover to me?

There is now such a bewildering choice of strikers, I'm thinking of going 3-5-2, with RVP and one cheapie, plus a bench warmer such as Pog at 4.8m?

Torres is misfiring, Tevez is now a rotation threat.... Thinking my current mid plus Bale or Silva covers all bases, then RVP with Lambert/Berba/Fletch or Defoe?

    Thoughts?

You mean bewildering choice of mids? If so totally agree. I've got Podolski, RVP, Tevez. Thinking of downgrading Tevez and upgrading my fifth mid to one of Oscar/Ramirez - and doing Michu > Silva.

No I ment strikers! But guess a lot of mids around too 🙂

If I sell Torres and get Bale I will have:-

        Hazard Cazorla Nolan Bale Pienaar
        RVP Tevez

All likely top six teams covered, plus Fantasy gold big Kev Nolan. Just lacking in the Baines dept.

It's so strange that Silva didn't come flying out of the blocks after his excellent Euro campaign. He looked full of beans for Spain and then suddenly lost it all again for City. Weird. But he is starting to get it together again.

I'm not usually taking four point hits but....Hangeland + Torres out for Baines + Berbatov gives me this?

    Jaask
    Lescott, Nelsen, Baines
    Pienaar, Hazard, Michu, Larsson
    Berbatov, Tevez, RVP

    Ridgewell, Noble, Clyne, Ruddy

That looks as safe a 4pt hit as I've seen.
